Answer:	I feel your pain. I had to take mine apart twice. The smooth part of the smaller tube slides into the bigger tube. If you look at the grooved / notched end of the smaller tube, the edge is cut out like a bowl, so the ball sits in it more securely. The small tube fits very snugly into the big tube, so that when you set the height for your batter, the small tube doesn't slip down when they hit it. Good luck.

Answer:	Yes. I've used it with older and taller kids in that range. It is adjustable. If it's just for you and your kid it should work nicely. If it's a whole team that height and age range it may not last the whole season depending on amount of use in practice. It's durable though. I've been happy with it.
