8 best weighted baseball bat for hitting
Weighted baseball bats are specialized training tools used in baseball to improve a batter's hitting skills. These bats are designed to be heavier than standard baseball bats and are typically used during practice sessions. Here's what you need to know about them:
Purpose: The primary purpose of weighted baseball bats is to help baseball players develop greater bat speed, power, and overall hitting performance. By training with a heavier bat, players can enhance their swing mechanics, muscle strength, and hand-eye coordination.
Design: Weighted baseball bats look similar to standard baseball bats but are constructed with added weight in various forms. Some have a solid, weighted barrel, while others have adjustable weights that can be attached or removed. These added weights increase the overall mass of the bat.
Training Benefits:
- Strength: Using a heavier bat during practice helps build the muscles involved in the baseball swing, including the core, arms, and shoulders.
- Bat Speed: After practicing with a weighted bat, switching back to a standard bat can make the player's swing feel faster and more powerful.
- Coordination: The added resistance can improve a player's timing and hand-eye coordination, as they need to adjust to the increased weight.
- Power: Over time, training with a weighted bat can lead to increased power in hitting, allowing players to hit the ball with greater force.
Types:
- Fixed Weight Bats: These have a set weight added to the barrel and cannot be adjusted. They come in various weight increments to suit different training needs.
- Adjustable Weight Bats: These bats allow players to customize the amount of added weight by attaching or detaching weight plates or inserts.
Training Routine: Coaches and players often incorporate weighted bat training into their practice routines. This can involve warm-up swings with a weighted bat, followed by regular swings with a standard bat to take advantage of the enhanced muscle activation and improved bat speed.
Caution: While weighted bats can be beneficial for training, it's essential for players to use them carefully to avoid overexertion or injury. Overuse of heavy bats during practice can lead to muscle strain or altered swing mechanics.
Transition: Players typically use weighted bats in practice and then switch to a standard bat during games. The contrast in bat weight can make the standard bat feel lighter and more manageable, potentially improving hitting performance during actual play.
In summary, weighted baseball bats are valuable tools in baseball training, aiming to enhance a player's strength, bat speed, coordination, and hitting power. They come in various designs, including fixed weight and adjustable weight options, and are often used by players looking to improve their hitting skills through targeted practice routines.

User questions & answers
Question: | What size for 8 year old |
Answer: | These balls are slightly larger than a standard MLB baseball. The diameter is 3 inches, and the circumference is 9.42 inches. The circumference for a standard baseball is 9 inches. The Rukket balls weigh 1 pound each. I have not used the total control balls so I cannot comment on them, although I see very positive reviews about them. The Rukket balls are heavier (16 ounces vs 14.9 ounces) and smaller than the Total Control balls (3 inches diameter vs 3.2 inches). The Rukket balls appear to be less expensive ( I paid $49.99 for nine of them ($5.55 each) whereas the price I just saw on Amazon for the Total Control Balls was $107.98 for 12 ($9 each). Hope this helps... |

User questions & answers
Question: | Bats are expensive and i do not want to ruin my bats. can you use a composite bat or an aluminum bat with these balls |
Answer: | Some sort of granular substance. I don't think it's sand but something similar.. |
Question: | What are these ball filked with |
Answer: | I don't see why they would, but I would not think so. We used it with a regular aluminum (?) bat from DICK'S sports. Love them, great because you don't need a large area to practice. Even when hit hard they don't go far at all. |
Question: | Do these damage the new 2018 composite bats |
Answer: | These worked well for my smaller 9 year old girl. My 11 year old son was still hitting these across a gym, which he is a strong hitter. So I guess you need to evaluate your child. |
Question: | What weight should I get for my 10 year old |
Answer: | We recommend the 27" for younger than 10years. |

Answer: | I have bought them for my grandsons for practice. They use aluminum bats and using these weighted balls helps them when it comes to hitting real baseballs farther. They love them! |

Question: | Do you use regular bats while hitting these |
Answer: | actually in between BB 2.9, softball 3.5 and these are 3.2...used for both sports especially high end baseball ....probably 12U and above because of weight. |
Question: | Are these baseballs or softballs |
Answer: | We use them everyday, but never with a players own bat. We have several older composite bats we keep right with the balls. I guess I don't want to be responsible for breaking doen a $350. Bat. So far we have not messed up any older composite bats uding these balls. |
Question: | are these balls approved for use with all bats? Will they void bat warranty |
Answer: | I would go with the 9 pack shown here, because it gives u a few different weighted sizes, and you can build up to the heavier 20oz balls. And they do come with a basic chart on how many swings to take and with what sizes, so u do have some sort of guideline to use. |
Question: | Which pack is better for a woman playing adult travel softball |
Answer: | These are sand balls use for hitting. Can be use for any coach pitch or kid pitch leagues. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it 2.8" circumference or diameter |
Answer: | Skilz ball is 15oz and the power net balls red are 16 oz orange 18 oz and black are 20 oz. I think but I am not 100%sure but the cover is thicker on the powernet balls. I own th power nets balls and another coach has the Skilz ball they both hold up well. |
Question: | Whats the difference between these and the sklz power thru weighted training ball |
Answer: | The light balls begin at a lower weight class. Those would be the yellow balls (Lightest), then followed by the green balls, then red being the heaviest in the light ball calss. In the Pro Balls, the weight class begins at the red ball, essentially moving up in weight from there. If this is for Adults or teenagers you may want to use the pro balls. I use the light balls for little league (8-12 year old), they are awesome! The balls are designed for hitting, with the luxury of not having to chase balls. I also use them for short, light toss, after the player is warmed up, to build arm strength. If you decide to also use them for tossing, use the lightest balls, as the heavy balls may cause arm damage. Good Luck, I hope this helped. |
Question: | Whats the diffence between pro and light |
Answer: | It's definitely smaller than a baseball and keep in mind that its filled with sand will change its shape when is struck by a bat. |
Question: | Being that a baseball is 9in and softballs are between 10-12 in how are these in size comparison? It says 2.8in but that doesn't sound right |
Answer: | Yes, they're safe to use with regular bats. We use them before games or as a hitting station. |
