Answer:	The SM/M that I purchased fit my 9 yr old to adult (female) client's/athletes. They may be big for a 5yr old unless he has hands are about as big as yours.

Answer:	I can't honestly answer the part whether these shoes are true to size or not. I was lazy and took a shot in the dark which size my daughter needed and they fit very well. The shoes themselves are of good quality and the price point is just right so I won't be shattered when her feet grow and I have to buy a new pair. My best advice is to stop at a dance store while you're out one day and get him sized, then go home and order these shoes.
