7 best knife with kydex sheaths
A knife with a Kydex sheath is a type of cutting tool that is accompanied by a sheath made from Kydex, a thermoplastic material known for its durability, rigidity, and resistance to moisture. These knives are often associated with tactical, outdoor, hunting, and survival applications. Here is what you should know about knives with Kydex sheaths:
Kydex Sheath Material:
- Kydex is a synthetic thermoplastic material that is known for its durability and versatility. It is moldable when heated and retains its shape when cooled, making it an ideal material for knife sheaths.
Benefits of Kydex Sheaths:
Durability: Kydex sheaths are highly resistant to wear, tear, and moisture. They can withstand harsh outdoor conditions and are less likely to degrade over time compared to leather or fabric sheaths.
Retention: Kydex sheaths provide excellent retention for the knife, holding it securely in place. They often feature audible clicks or snaps when the knife is inserted, ensuring it remains locked in the sheath until intentionally removed.
Easy Cleaning: Kydex is easy to clean and maintain. It can be wiped clean with a damp cloth, making it suitable for use in wet or muddy environments.
Customization: Kydex sheaths can be customized with various mounting options, including belt clips, straps, and loops. This allows for versatile carrying and attachment methods.
Types of Knives with Kydex Sheaths:
Tactical Knives: Many tactical knives come with Kydex sheaths due to their rugged nature and suitability for tactical applications.
Outdoor and Survival Knives: Outdoor enthusiasts and survivalists often prefer knives with Kydex sheaths for their ability to withstand exposure to the elements.
Hunting and Fishing Knives: Some hunting and fishing knives are equipped with Kydex sheaths, ensuring the knife remains secure and protected while in the field.
Everyday Carry (EDC) Knives: Kydex sheaths are also used for EDC knives, providing a secure and convenient way to carry these tools.
Maintenance:
- Kydex sheaths require minimal maintenance. They can be cleaned easily with a damp cloth and should be allowed to air dry. Lubricating the sheath's pivot points or locking mechanisms, if applicable, can help maintain functionality.
Safety Considerations:
- While Kydex sheaths offer excellent knife retention, users should exercise caution when drawing the knife to prevent accidental injury. Proper training and familiarity with the sheath's retention mechanism are essential.
Brand and Quality:
- The quality of Kydex sheaths can vary depending on the manufacturer. It's important to consider reputable brands and read product reviews to ensure you are getting a reliable product.
In summary, knives with Kydex sheaths are popular choices for outdoor, tactical, and survival enthusiasts due to their durability, excellent knife retention, and resistance to environmental factors. When choosing a knife with a Kydex sheath, consider the intended use, sheath customization options, and the overall quality of the product to ensure it meets your specific needs.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it come with a Ferro rod |
Answer: | I don't think they have arch support and the insole is covered with soft material but it's firm. They have a soft comfortable bed and have more support than most slippers. |
Question: | is this an american made knife |
Answer: | They run big. Go down a half size. I am 5 1/2, but often buy 6 for width. I bought a 6 and they are so loose that they feel like they will fall off. They are new, out of the box and will also stretch since they are suede. |
Question: | how does this knife perform on bushcraft tasks |
Answer: | Yes these slip on easily. You might have to wiggle your heal a little but I think you could get them on. They are very warm and comfortable. |
Question: | Can this knife be crossed drawn |
Answer: | In China |

User questions & answers
Question: | is it a full tang |
Answer: | yes of course a full tang and very sharp and feels great . |
Question: | IS the sheath for this knife compatible with MOLLE attachment |
Answer: | With some altering (i.e. paracord or straps) this could be retrofitted to work with MOLLE. As is without such adjustments, best uses are on either the hip or thigh (just my honest opinion). There are however other sheaths, possibly better made, that will fit this knife and attach to MOLLE gear. |
Question: | is this made by kabar....made in the usa |
Answer: | Yes it is made by Kabar in the USA. |
Question: | Is this a full-tang knife or rat-tail |
Answer: | Full tang, sorta, as commenter Kurt Doney explains. And built like the Marine issue Ka-Bar, as commenter GlenFromCleveland breaks down. Hence, the knife is awesome. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How does this compare to the Ontario RTAK II |
Answer: | The only RTAK worth owning, is the original. The 1st gen RTAKs are more tough; less brittle. You certainly won't shatter it (unlike the RTAK II)! Given how difficult it would be to find a gen-one RTAK though, I'd just go with the BK9.. |
Question: | Bk7 or bk |
Answer: | I had the same "wonderful" problem, so I purchased both of them. At the end I decided to keep the BK9 and send the BK7 back. This is my analysis and strictly my opinion: The BK9 can do 80% of all the things the BK7 can do. The BK9 has a much much stronger blade point and thus is far superior for batoning. The BK9 is the knife that is in a special category and looks, feels and can do probably everything that the MAJORITY of your other knifes can NOT do. The BK9 is THE knife that I would keep, if I were given only ONE CHOICE of knifes to own. In my particular case, the BK7 would have been just "another one of those MANY knives" that are stored in my closet and just sit around, waiting to be used....but are not! The BK9 has to work hard, gets no rest and gets not pampered. It truly is one of those incredibly good knives. |
Question: | Is the blade full tang |
Answer: | Yes it is full tang .. 1095 HC it has a really rough Finnish on it that is very strong.. 1095 HC can rust though so if u rem oil it it'll b fine this is honestly my favorite knife I own and definitely the toughest knife out there it sharpens up very well and stays sharp the handle is ok but if you want u can upgrade that or put the tennis racket grips over the existing handle to give it more grip the sheath at first I thought it wasn't to great but I now really like it .. It is definitely the best knife for 80 $ out there for the cash you are not going to brake this knife |
Question: | Does anybody know what country the BK9 is made in |
Answer: | I called the Becker cite and was advised the BK9 "country of origin" is USA. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the stealth work for a left handed |
Answer: | I’ve had my set for about a year and they haven’t rusted. I don’t put them in the dishwasher, I hand wash them, dry them and put them away. This is a wonderful set of knives. |
Question: | Is the blade full tang |
Answer: | I am not familiar with "aerated" knives, however, the steak knives have serated edges near the tip and straight edges near the handle. Extremely sharp, and high quality! |
Question: | Assembled in China, or made in china completely |
Answer: | I don't know. I would contact Amazon. |
Question: | made in the usa |
Answer: | Not in Germany....forged in China, but I’m extremely impressed with the quality of the knives, and self-sharpening block. |
