Answer:	I've owned this knife for a couple years now haven't had one issue. I would try loosening the pivot screw that connects the blade enough to get some oil between the washers. I would also recommend using blue loctite if you want to go a further step. If the pivot screw is too tight it will not deploy hard enough to lock properly and if it's too loose there will be too much blade play.

Answer:	How it works is that when you plug the AC power cord into the back of the unit, the batteries are cut off. He may have unplugged it from the wall but left the power cord plugged into the back of the radio. He needs to unplug the power cord from the back of the radio, as well as unplug the cord from the electric outlet, to get it to work on batteries. If he has already unplugged the cord from the back of the radio and it still won't play on batteries, here is what's probably happening. Inside the jack for the power cord on the back of the radio there is a little flap that moves back and forth when you put the power cord in and pull it out. When you push the power cord in, you're also pushing this little flap upward, which switches it from battery power to AC electric power. This flap might not be popping back down when the power cord is removed. I would suggest unplugging the cord from the electrical outlet, then plug and unplug the power cord from the back of the unit several times to see if you can free up this flap. (When it's popped out, you can see it inside the jack.) If this doesn't work, the unit may be defective and need to be exchanged.
