14 best cheap rangefinders

They are commonly used in activities like hunting, golf, shooting sports, and outdoor recreation.

  • Brands: Several reputable brands offer budget-friendly laser rangefinders, including Nikon, Bushnell, Vortex, and Simmons. These brands provide a range of options to suit different budgets.

  • Maximum Range: The maximum range a rangefinder can measure varies from model to model. Budget-friendly options may have a range of 400 to 800 yards, which is generally suitable for most recreational purposes.

  • Accuracy: Look for a rangefinder with good accuracy, typically measured in yards or meters. A rangefinder with a +/-1 yard accuracy is considered precise.

  • Target Priority Modes: Some rangefinders have different target priority modes, such as first target priority (measures the distance to the closest object) or distant target priority (measures the distance to the farthest object). Choose a mode that suits your needs.

  • Display: Ensure that the rangefinder has a clear and easy-to-read display. Many budget-friendly models offer a simple LCD display with distance readings.

  • Magnification: Rangefinders often come with built-in magnification to help you identify your target better. Common magnification levels for budget models range from 6x to 8x.

  • Water Resistance: If you plan to use the rangefinder in wet or rainy conditions, consider one with water-resistant or waterproof features.

  • Battery Life: Check the battery life of the rangefinder. Most budget rangefinders use standard CR2 or CR123A batteries, which are readily available.

  • Size and Weight: Consider the portability of the rangefinder. Budget models are typically compact and lightweight, making them easy to carry in the field.

  • Price Range: budget-friendly laser rangefinders could be found for under $150, with some models starting at around $100. Prices may have changed since then.

  • Reviews: Before making a purchase, read reviews from other users to gauge the rangefinder's performance, reliability, and any potential issues.

  • Remember that the right rangefinder for you depends on your specific needs, whether it's for hunting, golf, or other outdoor activities. Carefully consider your requirements and budget when selecting a rangefinder, and ensure it meets your accuracy and distance measurement needs.

    Product features

    HCD (Horizontal Component Distance)

HCD range display is intended to be the primary mode. The yardage number displayed is the critical horizontal component distance is corrected for shot angle and needs no extra user input. Use the HCD range mode in the following situations:

•Rifle shooting on level ground at any range.

•Rifle shooting out to ranges of 400 yards with moderate slopes (15 to 30 degrees) or out to ranges of 800 yards with mild slopes (less than 15 degrees).

    •For all archery shooting.

Shooters simply use the appropriate level ground bullet drop and wind adjustment for the range displayed and shoot. Archers use the appropriate level ground sight pin for the range displayed and shoot.

    LOS (Line of Sight)

LOS mode is intended for rifle shooters who are using slope correcting ballistic drop data cards, ballistic apps, or PDAs with ballistic programs and are shooting at distances beyond 500 yards and slopes greater than 15 degrees. Most shooters and archers will not need the LOS mode. The range number displayed in LOS mode is the actual line of sight range with no ballistic correction for slope.

Most of the commonly used ballistic devices can provide independent slope correction for bullet drop data and require actual line of sight range input. Using the LOS range when calculating bullet wind drifts under these steep slope/long range conditions will provide a higher degree of accuracy than using the HCD range. To use, simply input the LOS range number into the device or use the LOS range when referencing ballistic drop cards with slope correction.

    Scan Feature

The Scan feature can be used to range moving targets or help range smaller targets on uniform backgrounds in either HCD or LOS modes.

Once powered up, press and hold the Measure button and scan laser back and forth, watching for changes in the yardage number as crosshairs move across the target object. A blinking 'S' display indicates Scan Ranging is activated.

    Impact 1000 Laser Rangefinder (LRF101)

When all you need is an intuitive platform with angle compensation–we're looking at you, bowhunters and range-day lovers–the Impact 1000 is all the rangefinder you need and then some. If things get up close and personal, range targets down to five yards out, with the ability to stretch out to 1,000 yards if need be. Lightweight and simple to operate, the Impact 1000 gets you on target fast meaning you can no longer justify going into the field without a laser rangefinder.

    HCD (Horizontal Component Distance) Mode

The Impact 1000’s HCD range display is intended to be the primary mode—used for most rifle and archery shooting conditions. The yardage number displayed is the critical horizontal component distance.

Use the HCD range mode in the following situations:

    • Rifle shooting on level ground at any range.

    • Rifle shooting out to ranges of 800 yards with mild slopes (less than 15 degrees).

    • Rifle shooting out to ranges of 400 yards with moderate slopes (15 to 30 degrees).

    • For all archery shooting.

The displayed HCD yardage number is corrected for shot angle and needs no extra user input; shooters simply use the appropriate level ground bullet drop and wind adjustment for the range displayed and shoot. Archers use the appropriate level ground sight pin for the range displayed and shoot.

    LOS (Line of Sight) Mode

The Impact 1000’s LOS (Line of Sight) mode is intended for rifle shooters who are using slope correcting ballistic drop data cards, ballistic cell phone applications, or other ballistic programs and who are shooting at distances beyond 500 yards and with slopes greater than 15 degrees.

To use, simply input the LOS range number into the electronic device or use the LOS range when referencing ballistic drop cards with slope correction.

    Scan Feature

The Scan feature can be used to range moving targets or help range smaller targets on uniform backgrounds in either HCD or LOS modes. Once powered up, press and hold the Measure button and scan the laser back and forth, watching for changes in the yardage number as the crosshairs move across the target object. A blinking 'S' display indicates Scan Ranging is activated.

Question: Does this measure in feet
    Answer: yes
Question: Can this measure in feet? The prior question asked this already, but there are answers that say both yes and no
Answer: If I were you, I wouldn't use it in over 500-degree temperatures just in case.
Question: Does this measure in ft and in
Answer: Depending on how much grease there is, it will stay on the mat. I have the two that came with the order and a third. I overlap them them to trap any grease. There can be minimal run-off to pan below. I suggest sopping the grease up when possible and carefully removing the grill mats when done and cool to avoid spillage.
Question: How do you attach the wrist strap to the rangefinder
Answer: I don’t know. However, I use on a gas grill with no problem. I love the easy cleanup. You still get grill marks on your food.

    User questions & answers

Question: is this unit chargeable and does it come with a charger cable
Answer: It is in the right eyepiece
Question: My 300 pro worked well initially, but now can't pin on the flag, or even can't produce a yardage. The slop info disappeared as well. What can I do
Answer: push button on top and look into RF, you should see it change from Y To M
Question: how do you change scale from meters to yards
Answer: I am happy with this rangefinder. To measure the distance you are interested in, you need to sight in something the laser can hit. Not just a patch of the fairway. Walk to the ball and turn around and shoot something around the tee block.
Question: I know the definition between pat & standard mode, but why would i ever want to use standard mode over pat. isn't pat always better
Answer: I don’t believe the slope function can be turned off. Otherwise, this a great range finder—accurate and easy to use. While there may be better ones out there , they are four times the price and prob not that great of a difference.

    User questions & answers

Question: can this lock in on an individually hit ball as on the driving range
    Answer: yes
Question: I got this item last july 19th. recenly it has trouble. yd,m is no display. when i push "mode" button the power is turned off. how can i get service
Answer: Hello! Yes, our golf rangefinder has a built-in 1000mA rechargeable lithium battery. When low battery indicator is displayed in screen, please use the original USB cable to charge.
Question: I am not able to switch rangefinder off, any help
Answer: YES slope is important if you are getting a rangefinder to really get accurate distances to the pin for golf!! If you play a hole that the tee box is up higher than the green, there will be a difference in the distance your ball travels. Let's say the pin is 130 yards away but the slop is 10 degrees lower, the slope reading will tell you it is 130 to the pin but will play as if it were 117 yards away! That can entirely change your club selection and swing speed! So, if you are looking for a rangefinder to really start getting more accurate with distances of ball hits, the slope is a much more accurate reading for all holes that aren't dead even in elevation. The mode is illegal for tournament play, however all your practice rounds and experience with this feature will really help you understand for yourself how slope plays into the distance your ball will travel, and you will start to get a better "feel" for slope variations even without using this feature for tournament play. So it is still an excellent feature to improve the accuracy of your golf game!
Question: Does this measure distance over sand traps
Answer: Yes. I’m impressed that it works so well. Mode 1 is for distancing other objects. 2 is the flag range and 3 is speed of moving objects. Great purchase.

    User questions & answers

Question: Can this rangefinder measure height in feet and inches
Answer: First of all, PAT mode (Pin Acquisition Technology) has nothing to do with Slope adjustment (a separate mode) and is therefore legal for tournament play (Slope mode is NOT legal for tournament play and would have to be turned off). The Scan feature can be used in both PAT and Standard (non-PAT) mode. When using the Scan feature in PAT mode, as you move from target to target the distances will only change when you move to a target closer to you. This is valuable when approaching a green to ensure that you are picking up the pin and nothing behind it - i.e. you would start your Scan on a target behind the green and then move the laser to the pin. The last distance shown will be the yardage to the pin. When using Scan in the fairway (i.e. bunkers, doglegs, etc.) we suggest you use non-PAT mode... this way you can go back and forth between targets regardless of which one is closest to you. Hope this is helpful. Thanks
Question: Will this rangefinder read out yards and moa at the same time
Answer: You can not turn off slope for tournament play. You can use scan mode (Mode 1) which does not account for slope. Flag Lock (Mode 2) gives you the distance with adjusted slope.
Question: Will this work with I phone 5 s
Answer: We believe it is! There is a few second lag time to account for shaky hands. We also have a 2 year warranty and 60 day return policy if you are not satisfied.
Question: Will it display ballast is adjustment information on the finder itself, or do you have to use the app
Answer: There are three modes in the Series 2 Pro. Mode 1 is Continuous Scan Mode. In this mode you hold down the Acquire button and distances appear as you scan across your target line. Mode 2 is the Golf Mode. Press once and hold to activate scan and lock onto target. When the target is acquired, the unit will vibrate. Yardage is displayed at top of view field. Slope yardage is displayed at the bottom of the view field. Mode 3 is Speed Mode. There is no description of what this mode does or how to use it but I have heard is mostly used for hunting but you can also track the speed of your ball although I’m still unclear what this does or how to use it. If this is for golf all I can say is it a great device! I live mine and highly recommend it! Hope this helps.
