Cutting jigs, in the context of gun maintenance and accessories, are specialized tools used for precise and controlled modification or customization of firearms. These jigs help firearm owners and gunsmiths make accurate cuts, drills, or modifications to firearms while ensuring safety and precision. Here's what you should know about cutting jigs:
Purpose: Cutting jigs are primarily used for specific gunsmithing tasks, such as cutting or milling the receiver or frame of a firearm. They allow for consistent and precise cuts, which is crucial when working on firearms to maintain safety and functionality.
Firearm Customization: Gun enthusiasts and gunsmiths often use cutting jigs to customize firearms to their preferences. This can include installing accessories like optics, rails, or custom grips, and cutting out spaces or slots for these additions.
Safety: Safety is a paramount concern when working on firearms. Cutting jigs are designed to hold the firearm securely and in a fixed position, minimizing the risk of accidents while making modifications. They help prevent the firearm from moving or shifting during the cutting or milling process.
Firearm Types: Cutting jigs are available for various firearm types, including rifles, shotguns, and handguns. There are specific jigs designed for each type of firearm to ensure compatibility and precision.
Construction: These jigs are typically made from durable materials like steel or aluminum to withstand the forces generated during cutting or milling. They are built to be rigid and stable, ensuring that the firearm remains in the desired position.
Use of Guides: Some cutting jigs come with guides or templates that assist in making precise cuts or holes. These guides help maintain uniformity and accuracy in modifications.
Compatibility: When using cutting jigs, it's essential to ensure that they are compatible with the specific firearm model and modification you intend to make. Using the wrong jig can lead to inaccuracies or damage to the firearm.
Regulations: Depending on your location, there may be legal regulations governing firearm modifications. Always check and comply with local laws and regulations when customizing firearms.
Skill Level: Using cutting jigs requires a certain level of skill and expertise. Novices are advised to seek the assistance of qualified gunsmiths or professionals when performing significant firearm modifications.
In summary, cutting jigs are specialized tools used in gunsmithing for precise and controlled modifications of firearms. They are designed to enhance safety, accuracy, and consistency when customizing firearms, ensuring that modifications are made with the utmost precision and care. User questions & answers
Question: | Will this jig work with the 6 in. 5.5 amp cut-off saw (hf |
Answer: | It will work but I strongly recommend against it. A few years ago when harbour freight was out of the 2" saws, people used this 1. It gives rougher cuts and is not safe like the small saw. Surprisingly enough the 2" saw is ideal for this job. |
Question: | why is the alignment so difficult? Using MicroLux 2" cut-off saw. The hole patters do not allow me to mount this jig properly, also the blade moves it |
Answer: | I didn't have any issues mounting mine. Is the slotted side facing away from you when installed in the cutter? If you follow the instructions, one bolt goes up and one goes down. My block sits about 3/16" away from the blade. plenty of youtube videos on this... Mine works well. |
Question: | Can this cut any other brass |
Answer: | This cuts 223/5.56 brass from roughly 31mm to 37 mm. We also make jigs for 22tcm, 7.62*25 tokarev, 6.8spc, 7.7 jap, 8mm Mauser, 9mm Mauser, wolverine, Ham'r, 7.62wt as well as bullet jacket swaging jigs for 9mm, 40/10mm, 45acp and 5.7. we also make jigs for 45 AcP shot shells. |
Question: | Since the harbor freight saw was discontinued what saw will this jigs bolts fit accurately |
Answer: | Harbor Freight sells out large batches of the saws. Typically the item number then changes and a new batch is stocked. DO NOT BUY THE HYPE, all these 2" chinese miter saws are made at the same factory, just with different colors and stickers. Vendor claims that theirs is the best are not supported by the evidence. |
Product description
Precision deluxe case cutting jig with high impact plastic guard for 300 Blackout and others with similar case length. Affordable and precision products is what our company is known for and this is one of our many quality products with a price that is unbeatable. For a .223/5.56 cartridge to be accurately cut off and have the neck perfectly plum to the cartridge bottom, precise alignment is required. This can only be achieved with our design because the fixture is cut to fit the actual taper of the cartridge. Additionally, our case length will be exact each and every time you cut. Since precise cuts require a tapered bed for cartridge alignment the case cannot be pushed forward after its cut. You just lift the back end of the cut case up and toss it in a can and grab another, place it into the fixture, apply a little backward force so the case bottom rests on the stop for precise case length registration. Clear guard is placed so it does not interfere with your hand, and it can be easily removed. 100% Made in the USA
- Accurately holds a .223 /5.56 cartridge for 300 Blackout case trimming
- Jig conforms to the taper of the cartridge so cuts are precsion

User questions & answers
Question: | does it adjust to length |
Answer: | When your clamping the jig into place you can adjust the the trim some within the space cut out for the blade to pass. |
Question: | What case length does this trim to |
Answer: | You know, I don't know the absolute dimensions, but I bought a case gauge. I set up my cutoff saw so that the trimmed cases were exactly the measure of my gauge. I have so far trimmed about 200 5.56mm cases to 300 BO length (I bought 1000 once fired 5.56 brass and altering them to 300 BO sizes to reload.). |
Question: | Will this also work with a 6” mini chop saw |
Answer: | if you can clamp it at 90 degrees from the saw blade i dont see why not. i have the harbor freight mini chop saw. i think its 4" or 3" but it has a miter gauge for easy alignment |
Question: | What is the best type of saw to use with this jig |
Answer: | Harbor Freight sells a 2"chop saw. $29-34.00. I bought a 3 pack of replacement blades for $10.00 and have yet to change it over after cutting (800) .223 cases. I see the picture of the jig there. I took the plexiglass shield off the jig as it rattles and besides, the saw gives your fingers clearance. Call ahead to the Harbour Freight to see if they have it in stock and if they don't, they can show you in their system where someone does. Here is a vid on it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLHMPJJsXhw |

Answer: | 38 colt brass are a larger diameter than 38/357 brass. If they re cut down they will split when fired. |
Question: | Do you have a pix of it mounted to one of the small Harbor Freight chopping saws |
Answer: | I Don't, put Squirle Daddy does and it looks just like it. I don't have access to mine right now, just moved and its packed, but it works great, best tool I've found for trimming 300BLK cases down to form so far. |
Question: | What's mini saw is best for this jig |
Answer: | This is just like the one I bought and it works very well with the jig. http://www.amazon.com/TruePower-919-Speed-Cut-Off-2-Inch/dp/B000VWHTUG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1447507695&sr=8-2&keywords=mini+saw |
