6 best tree stand climbing sticks

Tree stand climbing sticks are essential accessories used by hunters and outdoor enthusiasts to access elevated positions, such as tree stands, more easily and safely. These climbing sticks play a crucial role in providing a secure and stable pathway for individuals to climb up and down trees. Here are key aspects related to tree stand climbing sticks:

  1. Material and Construction:

    • Climbing sticks are commonly made of lightweight yet sturdy materials like aluminum or steel. These materials are chosen for their durability and ability to support the weight of a person.
  2. Design:

    • Climbing sticks are typically designed as individual sections or steps that can be attached to the tree in a ladder-like configuration. They are engineered to be easily portable and adjustable to accommodate various tree sizes and shapes.
  3. Attachment Mechanism:

    • Most climbing sticks use a strap-on or ratchet attachment system to secure each section to the tree trunk. This mechanism ensures a tight and stable connection, minimizing the risk of slippage during ascent or descent.
  4. Step Design:

    • The steps or rungs of climbing sticks are designed with features like non-slip surfaces or teeth to provide traction and prevent slipping, especially in wet or muddy conditions.
  5. Adjustability:

    • Many climbing sticks are adjustable in terms of height and angle. This adaptability allows users to customize the setup based on the specific tree they are climbing, providing versatility in various hunting environments.
  6. Portability:

    • Portability is a key consideration, and many climbing sticks are designed to be lightweight and easily packable. Some models are collapsible or can be stacked together for convenient transportation.
  7. Weight Capacity:

    • Climbing sticks are engineered to support the weight of a hunter or outdoor enthusiast. Manufacturers provide weight capacity specifications, and it's essential for users to adhere to these limits for safety.
  8. Use with Tree Stands:

    • Climbing sticks are often used in conjunction with tree stands to create an elevated platform for hunting. They provide a safe and efficient means of ascending and descending from the stand.
  9. Safety Features:

    • Safety features may include reflective elements for visibility in low-light conditions and additional straps or buckles to secure the climbing sticks to the tree securely.
  10. Compatibility:

    • It's crucial to ensure that the chosen climbing sticks are compatible with the specific tree stand or tree stand brand, as there may be variations in design and attachment mechanisms.

When using tree stand climbing sticks, it's essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully, inspect the equipment regularly for signs of wear or damage, and prioritize safety measures during use. These climbing sticks contribute to a safer and more accessible hunting experience in wooded or elevated terrains.

Question: How wide are the steps (in inches
Answer: It is not intended to “stick in the ground”. It attaches to the tree. It is just one section intended to add height to an existing tree ladder, or to add more sections (by purchasing more) to increase the ladder height with each section. One section does not attach to the next. Each is individually attached to the tree wit the supplied strap, which can be reinforced with additional ratchet straps.

User questions & answers

Question: Are these supposed to come with straps
Answer: They weigh about 7 pounds .
Question: How do these attach to the tree
Answer: I am at 20ft to my seated position in the tree. The top step of the 3rd stock is level with the platform of my lock-on. I did use two screw-in steps at the bottom so I could start the first stick a little higher but none of the steps are positioned where I have to stretch. I am about 6ft and 210lbs for reference.
Question: How much do 3 steps weigh with straps and all
Answer: I use the grip stick rails but I’m 5’10” 175 with a size 10 shoe. I feel very secure with them. If I was the size of your BF I’d probably want a ladder that carried the weight to the ground.
Question: What is the maximum height attainable with these steps
Answer: Step width is 13.5"

User questions & answers

Question: Can I buy two 5 piece and take two middle sections out of one and make the other like 26ft
Answer: You just strap it to the tree as you put up each section
Question: are these individual sticks one solid piece of metal or do you have to assemble them with bolts or somthing
Answer: 5
Question: I purchased these and they did not come with tree brackets. Without the brackets they do not work. can you send replacement brackets
Answer: Yes they are supposed to come with straps that attach to the Versa buttons. But I ordered and had to return a set from Amazon a couple weeks ago that came with no hardware at all to assemble them, so there is a good chance they are missing as they are shipping sets without parts.
Question: how many different individual climbing sticks do you get in this package
Answer: They attach by hooking a self tightening strap around the tree and then clipping it into the other side of the stick. Once you have the strap clipped in place, you tighten it and it is ready to use. I have used these many times on all types of trees and they work perfectly every time. I highly recommend them to anyone who is an avid hunter with different stand locations.

User questions & answers

Question: In the picture it shows the seat as well, curious if it is actually part of the package
Answer: I have bought this 4 pack before. All the sticks are identical and have 3 steps each.
Question: what kind of aluminum is the square tube on these
Answer: I usually set my bottom step about 2’ off the ground. Each stick is 32” with steps every 15”. Sometimes I’ll leave a little more than 15” between sticks. That’ll put my top step at about 17’ but I set the platform of my stand about 1-1/2’ lower because I use the top step as a handhold to safely transition from the sticks to the stand. My seat is usually about 16-1/2’ off the ground. I have two sets of sticks, but I rarely ever need more than one 4-piece set. I’ve had good success even at just 10’ if I have good concealment from the canopy behind and above me. For me, I’m looking to get out of their line of sight and good cover around and behind me, and I try to use the wind in my favor with a good cover scent.
Question: There are 4 sticks 3 of them have 3 steps and 1 stick has 2. The 1 with 2 does it go on the bottom in the middle are on the top are does it matter
Answer: You should have no problem doing that. They just fit into each other. You would just add two more pieces and then add the top and you should be good to go. Might be a bit difficult getting something that long up the tree, but other than that you should be fine. Just a tip. If you plan on leaving them in year round anywhere, spray them with a can of flex seal first and they last forever. Good luck this season.
Question: how high
Answer: Individual, they slip fit together
