For all those who camp, hunt or spend time afield. The Companion works just as happily splitting out kindling as it does prying apart joints and skinning game, not to mention chopping onions for the campfire chili!. Once you secure the knife in the sheath, there is a spot on the back of the sheath where you apply pressure with your thumb to release the knife. The knife locks into place for safety, so it doesn't fall out. This isn't a defect, the user has to apply pressure to a certain spot on the sheath so the knife can actually be removed from it.
Bring the KA-BAR Becker Companion Knife and Tool along on your next hunting or camping trip. This lightweight knife features a durable, 1095 cro-van steel blade, perfect for splitting kindling, skinning game, or chopping onions for the campfire grill. User questions & answers
Question: | I wear a xxl size glove. could anyone tell me if i could comfortably hold the grip of the bk |
Answer: | I wear XL gloves and have plenty of room on the handle. You’ll be fine |
Question: | I just got a new BK2 and noticed the Mfg. info is printed on the black coating and not stamped into the steel, is this a knock-off |
Answer: | KaBar got a laser engraver last year when the new BK16, BK15, BK17 came out. they started using that instead of rollstamping like they used to. It is a genuine KaBar/Becker product. It is still slightly in the metal...I strip all my Beckers and the three I have with the new laser etching still have visible markings afterwards. You can also use PCB etchant to make it deeper BEFORE you strip it. The ESEE guys have been doing that for years.ETA...they also started using a different style coating...textured black instead of smooth. the new coating is MUCH tougher then the old, looks better too. LOL I still strip it though |
Question: | How does it match up to the Sk-5 Blackbird survival knife |
Answer: | Blackbird is a better slicer, but it's not as thick as the BK2. Blackbird is my choice of blade between the two, based on superior metal and the way each knife handles. My SK5 did not come very sharp though, so if you're not a guy who can sharpen a knife into a scalpel, you might want to go BK2. However, I have never needed to resharpen my BK5 after getting the right edge on it. S30v steel is pretty awesome. |
Question: | is this a kydex sheath or nylon sheath. does the nylon sheath have a pocket |
Answer: | Everybody that keeps saying its kydex, its not it actually glass reinforced nylon wich looks and feels like nylon except its cheaper and dulls your blade overtime. I would recommend the bk22 wich is the same knife ecept it comes with a soft nylon sheath that has a built in pouch or an aftermarket sheath. I got an armatus carry sheath and I'm very happy with the both the knife and sheath. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the sheath be reversed for left-handed carry |
Answer: | YES IT CAN BE REVERSED. Very easily done by loosening the two countersunk nuts/bolts. Fantastic knife AND sheath as well. Greatest design since the KaBar itself |
Question: | How can a techlock be attached to the sheath |
Answer: | Plenty of opening on sheath to add tecklock |
Question: | Scout carry |
Answer: | Horizontal... like you asked |
Question: | Can it be carried horizontally with the holster provided |
Answer: | Yes... you can carry it scout style. |
Question: | Can the sheath it comes with, be mounted horizontially on a belt |
Answer: | To state the obvious, the Piggyback does not come with a sheath. It's supposed to "piggy back" in the sheath for the Potbelly or Baconmaker. The Piggyback knife is being made available separately, as described. You are buying a knife without a sheath. There is, however, a thin plastic "sheath" for protection in shipping or storage, but certainly the manufacturer does not intend for this to be used for carrying--there's no belt clip. I bought the Piggyback to put in a lightweight backpacking mess kit and didn't need a sheath for carrying. It has been good for spreading peanut butter, cutting cheese, and even batonning wood; as well as cutting frozen meat. If you need a sheath, you have to make other arrangements. |
Question: | Will this fit in the extra compartment in the Ka-Bar Combat Kukri's sheath |
Answer: | I'm sorry, but I can't tell you for sure if it will fit that sheath. This knife is 6 inches long and 1 inch wide at the widest point. It fits in the extra compartment of the nylon sheath that came with my Ontario RAT-7. That's the only comparison I have for you. Hope this helps you. |
Question: | Will this fit the extra spot on a BK7 sheath |
Answer: | I'm sorry, I do not own a BK7, so I can not be of much help. This knife is about 6 inches long, an inch wide and maybe 1/8 inch thick. It fits in the sheath that came with my Ontario RAT-7, if that is any help. |

User questions & answers
Question: | i've seen that some come with a cordura nylon sheath instead on a leather sheath so which sheath does it come with? because i want a leather sheath |
Answer: | I think they pretty much fit any utility knife. |
Question: | doe!s this knife come with a leather shieth |
Answer: | I mean, they are dual sided box cutter blades made from a bit thicker, stronger, and less chipable metal. If ur asking if u can use ur ceramic/ glass stove top as the surface area to cut ontop of without leaving cut marks, no i dont think that will work. However, if u take a flattened cereal box n put it between whatever ur cutting n ur ceramic/ glass stove top; this will work! That is, as long as ur not forcing all ur weight down on the blade, as ur cutting. |
Question: | Is the blade full tang |
Answer: | They'll fit in the Gerber but will likely be a bit loose. The only blade I've found that works properly in the Gerber EAB Lite is the Stanley 11-931. |
Question: | most important question of all. is this badass made in the good ol' US n A |
Answer: | No the knife does not float. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can it be carried horizantal or vertical |
Answer: | Horizontal only unless you create a different harness on your own |
Question: | Do they make a sheath for right side wearing? Does not have to be the same one |
Answer: | The way the sheath is in the pic is the way I wear it on the right side, you just have to wrap your thumb back a little further to release the strap that retains the blade. I was concerned about the layout too, but it was not a big problem. And just for the record, it really is a nice blade for the price. The edge was so sharp out of the box, it was like a mirror. A nice size too, not too big, not too small. I think this would wear awkwardly on the left side. |
Question: | Where is it made |
Answer: | USA |
Product description
The BK62 represents a direct link to the forefather of American Woodcraft, Mr. Horace Depart himself. His tome Camping and Woodcraft (first published in 1906) is still required reading for modern bush crafters and outdoorsmen. Ethan Becker owns the only known original 5" Depart Knife still in existence, a blade that spawned an entire genre of knives, and the BK62 is as close as you can get in a production knife, executed brilliantly by the craftsmen at KA-BAR. The 5" spear point blade is a bush craft classic thanks to its versatility. This was the knife Depart designed and used to do everything. . . from wood carving to skinning to food prep and everything in between. The edge itself comes all the way back to the handle scales, ensuring maximum utility. There is enough length to do big jobs, but the blade is still nimble and eager to move. The full flat grind makes it a terrific slicer and works well for virtually any task imaginable. A slight sedge at the spine makes the blade more efficient by reducing drag when cutting through soft or fibrous materials such as vines or large game. KA-BAR's fantastic 1095CV steel works great in the field, with plenty of toughness and edge retention. It lacks a coating, but the stonewashed finish offers a modicum the corrosion resistance (although it will still patina) for the steel, as well as minimizes the appearance of scratches after years of service. The handles are bolt-on in typical Becker fashion, but the scales are made of walnut wood for a classic look and warm feel. The handles are slim but hand filling, and a swell at the front enables excellent purchase for pinch grips and when choking up for fine work. A tapered tang makes for perfect composure, with the balance point hitting right at the index finger. Also included is a period accurate brown leather sheath for easy and secure carry. What worked 100 years ago still works today. The BK62 is a versatile blade that will find its way into the kit of campers, hikers and bush crafters alike. As Mr. Becker likes to say about this design, "There is nothing you don't need on this knife, and everything you need is there. " Ethan Becker founded Becker Knife & Tool in the early 1980's and set about designing, manufacturing and selling the industrial-strength tactical and survival knives that he had always wanted for himself. His products, the BK&T line, have gone a long way to making these now popular all-black knives in demand. Mr. Becker spends as much time as possible in the outdoors testing a variety of equipment and knife designs, and also works to expand his primitive and outdoor skills. He collaborated with KA-BAR in 2008 and has reintroduced and brought up to date his best selling models. Question: | How thick is the spine? Is the spine 90 degree grind? Also is it a scandi blade |

Answer: | Yes it tapers and has a swedge |

User questions & answers
Question: | What makes it a “bowie” knife |
Answer: | Hi, at the furthest end of the handle, away from the teeth, it is 9/16th's of an inch wide; just a bit over half an inch. The narrowest part is right next to the teeth, at 6/16 of an inch wide. it is a really nice back scratcher. We have two of them at home. |
Question: | is this knife sharp or razor sharp |
Answer: | It's 3/16 of an inch thin, so it depends on the tightness of the cast. It's thicker than the one I used when I broke my ankle a couple of years ago. |
Question: | Can it be used for bush craft |
Answer: | The bearback is not electronic - but it is wonderful ;) |
Question: | What is the guarantee by amazon.com tbhat this 100% original hand made in the usa? i need guarantees |
Answer: | The head is fixed in position and does not twist. |
