User questions & answers

Question: Does Gerber sell a replacement ferro rod for this knife
Answer: I'm not sure. I bought an extra flint on attachable lanyard. Plus its allot cheaper that way.. Also Knife work great on the other flint. I don't use the one with it. Thats my emergency use only. Hopefully I never need it!
Question: Can this be attached to a backpack shoulder strap
Answer: Yes if you have the proper molle strap. It is designed to be strapped to your belt on waist vertically or horizontally. Very good knife for the price
Question: Can this hook onto a belt
Answer: Yes. Vertically or Horizontally on your belt.
Question: What kind of steel is used in the blade
Answer: Gerber products use a 100% high-grade stainless steel. Stainless steel is not completely resistant to rust but rather is corrosion resistant to rust. Corrosion can occur in the absence of proper maintenance. Your Gerber product should be cleaned, dried and re-oiled periodically to inhibit rust and corrosion; this is especially true in a damp or marine environment. If your Gerber product comes in contact with any substance that you are uncertain about, it is always a good idea to wash your blade off with tap water, dry it and apply a light coat of oil. If your Gerber product comes into contact with saltwater you must flush it with tap water immediately after use and coat it with good quality lightweight oil. Salt water is extremely corrosive and will attack and destroy any type of steel.

User questions & answers

Question: What County is this knife made in
Answer: Hi Scott - Wendy from Tall Ridge here - Thank you for your inquiry! Gerber products are primarily manufactured in the United States. The fishing line has parts that are sourced from China. I hope that is helpful!
Question: How thick is the blade
Answer: Hi - Wendy from Tall Ridge here - Thank you for your inquiry! The blade is 1/8" thick. I hope that is helpful!
Question: What is the length of the blade
Answer: Hello - Mina from Tall Ridge here - Thank you for your inquiry! The blade length on the Gerber Principle Fixed Blade Knife is 3.1in. I hope that helps!
Question: Is it made in the usa
Answer: Yes it’s made in the USA, I’m very pleased with this knife.
Question: Hello, would you consider all 4 and free shipping
Answer: Shipping for 4 of these knives would cost me $15.50 with the boxes and that does not even include gas to get to the Post Office. Text me about this and we will work something out 3167347028. I can not discount the whole amount of shipping on these. THanks for looking at my knives.
Question: Is this a good knife for multi purpose every day carry

Question: What kind of steel is the balde made of
Answer: Whatever (as my boyfriend puts it) "mystery steel" Gerber uses. It's their standard blade metal.
Question: Is this knife made in the USA
Answer: No. This one is made in China. They tried to pull a fast one on us with this one because it does not say where it was made anywhere on the knife itself. BUT it does tell you on the packaging.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this knife cut tires? I want to make planters and other crafts out of old car tires, but what I have just won't cut it
Answer: Use a reciprocating saw and pruning blade. I cut the 3/4" rubber horse stall mats that way after trying a lot of different tools.
Question: Which Knife is Better? This one or the SOG Magnadot
Answer: Hi have not had SOG Magnadot, the 000752 for me was a good choice, a little thicker blade, handle was a little larger for a good gripe. I'm still happy with the 000752, hope this helps
Question: How long is blade
Answer: this one: overall length 8.5", closed 4.9", blade 3.6", wt 4.3 ounces
Question: Made where
Answer: There are "knock offs out there. If is does not come in a sealed blister pack, it might be a returned item OR a Knock OFF. Returning the one received today, right out of the box had a defective rubber handle and NO blister pack - a returned or knock off. I already ordered and received - 2 "real ones" for gifts. So I can tell the difference....

User questions & answers

Question: What is the blade and handle lengths? What is the blade width
Answer: Overall length is 8.25" and blade length is 4"
Question: what are the dimensions of the knife itself
Answer: 4" blade, approx 4" handle
Question: Is this knife made in USA? Thanks
Answer: Nope. Still a decent blade for the money.
Question: What kind of steel is it
Answer: As noted, 5Cr15MoV. It's a Chinese stainless steel roughly on par with 440A or AUS-6--one of the more highly stain-resistant, but generally overly-soft and cheapest steels on the market. A good heat treat can make it decent, but it's chemical composition will not allow it to ever be a spectacular performer. It's also the Chinese equivalent of a German steel popular in German cutlery, but like I said, there's only so much a maker can do with it, even with good heat treat protocols...A factor I doubt Gerber can or cares to control much with their overseas blade production. Churn them out fast, sell them cheap. It makes me sad that Gerber abandoned the S30V steel, USA-made stag-handled version, which was, in my opinion, one of the best hunting knives made. I assume that Freeman is unhappy to have his name associated with something Gerber apparently no longer cares much about. Although the design, hasn't changed, the steel on this will need to be sharpened probably 3-5 times more frequently. S30V is a steel designed by Crucible Metallurgy from the ground up specifically for cutlery. Crucible makes use of a powdered metallurgy technique that produces much smaller, more highly refined, more evenly distributed carbides throughout in the steel's crystalline structure. That technique paired with a good steel recipe, and the cryogenic heat treatment protocols makes it one of the new breed of so-called "super steels" that are popular with knife enthusiasts, including CPM154 (a powdered metallurgy version of the popular 154 CM steel), 3V, CPM-D2 (a new take on a classic tool steel), and S35VN from Crucible, Elmax from Bohler-Uddeholm, and HAP40 from Hitachi.

User questions & answers

Question: What blade angle does it come with? Fine edge implies 20 degrees but I might be wrong
Answer: Typically "Fine Edge" actually refers to a knife with no serrations. Combo Edge would imply a portion of the cutting edge that has serrations, more often found near the handle, but that is not always the case. These knives are sharpened by hand, one at a time on a belt so the edge may vary from one piece to another. The angle is typically 40-50 degrees inclusive, meaning 20-25 degrees per side. That gives you a good balance of cutting performance while avoiding the edge from chipping or rolling, blade hardness notwithstanding. The lower the angle the lower the physical toughness of the cutting edge, may or may not be applicable to your needs.
Question: Was your knife shipped in a box, or in a clamshell
