Question:	I’m buying this for my 14 year old. What type of gun is the best to use with this
Answer:	I'm away on travel just now so can't go measure it, but I'd say it MUST be at least 3" wide, likely closer to 4...so it should EASILY fit on a long piece of steel stock. I took the long bolt they give you (to go down into the middle of a spare tire to mount the slinger) and put it facing up (drilled a hole for it about 6" from the back)...and I put a piece of 1/2" pvc around it and filled it with RTV. Now I can stack a few small weights from my dumbell set (I think I use 3 or 4- three-pounders). That weights the back, and I bought two more 4" stove-bolts and drilled holes in the top of the arms going out to the sides (about 2 " from the corner where it goes down) and mounted them sticking up like the one in the back, then put 2 more pvc pieces over them (also filled w/ RTV)....this lets me put two more 2-pounder weights on each side. That all weights it down really well and I made a long string and can trip it off by myself standing about 20 yards to the side of it...so I get a nice sling that goes across instead of straight out. LOVE IT! This is a pretty nice unit, easy to adapt for just about any way you want to use it. Good luck!
Question:	Can a single person lauch and shoot with this
Answer:	I can't answer for sure as I've never seen mini clays...however I'd think so...you just adjust the spring level down (so it doesn't shatter them due to them being lighter). I typically fling 1 regular clay at a time...when I do doubles every now and then I have to tighten the spring so it flings them both decently (much harder to 'cock' that way tho). Nice unit, the only real drawback is using it by myself (I've developed a long string I can pull from about 15 yds to the side so I have a side to side shot, not just a straight in front of me shot). Much more fun that way. The other thing is you really need to secure it to the ground, or it walks....either attatch it to a spare tire, or I've added long bolts sticking up from both front 'arms' that I stack 3-3lb dumbbell weights on each side, then in the back I added another long bolt and I stick 20lbs of my dive weights (lead). All it does w/ all that weight is dig itsself into the ground slowly. W/ no added weight and not secured to a spare tire it would walk all over the place.

Question:	What have you put under it (to prevent bathroom accidents in your vehicle) during transportation
Answer:	I never transported an animal in it but I would think a heavy duty trash (approx 32 gal) around it with the top not tied would be sufficient.

Answer:	Depends on bait.... Birds and rats can get in and out without tripping the trap! I had to bend the wire at the top hook where it lockcs and it works fine. I always test it when I leave it. I have caught 12 Racoons...3 feral cats...and one neighbors trap. I have had the best luck with Fried Chicken left over bones, Marchmallows, and Reeses Peanut Butter cups.What amazies me is if caught with a couple of chicken bones as bait when I go to get the trap the Coon has eaten the entire bone.
Question:	What's the difference between "Havahart 1079 Live Animal Professional-Style One-Door Raccoon, Groundhog, Opossum, and Stray Cat..." and Havahart
Answer:	The only difference is that in the 1089, when you lift the handle, it automatically sets the trap or locks the door for the animal you are trying to catch. In the 1079, which I bought, you set the trap manually. I like being able to get the bait inside and every thing done before I set the spring on the door. I don't want my arm cought in it trying to get the bait set. If you are trying to catch raccoons, you will also need something to stabilize the cage. You would be surprised how a caccoon can roll the cage. Sue
Question:	What are the dimensions? I have a cat trap built the same way but i am afraid the raccoon might be too big for it
Answer:	That will depend upon the raccoon in question. I've caught a lot of woodchucks, opossum, squirrels, the occasional bird, and a skunk in my 1079 but have been having mixed results with a current raccoon problem--raccoons got into an attic. I caught a medium sized one right away and another a few days later. Unfortunately the second one flipped the trap over which released the gravity lock and it was able to escape. After that I wired the trap to the roof framing so it couldn't be moved and they attacked the trap from the outside to get the bait... they even pulled the trigger rod out of the trap! I ordered a Havahart 1081 (15x15x42) recently and it arrived Wednesday. I set it Thursday evening and caught a huge raccoon overnight. I had that new trap wired to the roof framing also and covered the floor of the trap and pan with a piece of carpet that was in the attic. Some sardines (in a tin that was opened just a crack) was placed near the pan and away from the end and sides so the raccoons couldn't reach it. Regarding the it depends aspect... How big is the raccoon you are after in reality. If it is truly a large one get a bigger trap and I think you'll have better luck.

Answer:	The trap I got is great for ground squirrels. I have caught 8 of them in my backyard. As for Woodchucks, I am not sure. To be honest with you, I do not even know what size Woodchucks are. If you go to the Havahart website, you will find a list of animals and the best sizes for catching them.

How To Catch Them The Right Way

When having to lure a stubborn rodent:

• ✓ Keep the compression bar snapped into the Storage Latch so the door stays propped open for as long as you need to lure your rodent. Put some sweet-smelling/fragrant bait inside and outside of the trap for a few days. Peanut butter, dog food, and dried fruit are some good choices. Check to see if the bait was taken now you are ready for the next step to set the trap to catch your rodent!

When you are ready to catch a rodent:

• ✓ Place the cage in a dark and gloomy place or corner where they often appear. Preferably somewhere on the way to their nest. TIP: Make sure the trigger is extra sensitive by adjusting the tip of the compression bar just barely into the suspension loop and not all the way past the suspension loop.

Rat

Peanut butter works very well with Rats. Place the trap against a wall or corner in a dark place where there are signs of droppings, chewed on areas or tiny openings. If you are placing the trap outdoors you can place it against a wall, where you see an opening, behind trash cans or in the garden near the fruits or vegetables.

Vole

These hamster and mouse-like animals don't typically cover large areas where they roam. So it's best to find the center of their lair. The suggested bait would be seeds/nuts, fresh berries or other fruits, sweet chewy candies and additionally peanut butter.

Chipmunk

Bird seeds are among the chipmunks most favorite food, walnuts, pears, carrots, apricots, raisins, bananas, beans or tomatoes can be used as well.

Squirrel

Step 1: The trap will arrive already flat packed (folded) which will be tied together, simply un-tie to release the trap

Step 2: Whilst unfolding the trap ensure the metal plate in the middle of the trap is on the floor, this is the plate which will trigger the trap door

Step 3: Pull down the framework support arms and fix them

Step 4: Wire lock (Small square U shaped wire) can be inserted through the designated holes and door rings to ensure the rear door can not open

Step 5: The hook in the right through the metal plate inside the trap, the left hook onto the spring clip. The rod hooks onto the U bend spring clip whilst the L shape metal hook goes onto the door whilst in the cocked position

Step 6: When the trap is set correctly, the rod will raise the metal plate, put some bait just past the plate so the pest goes past the plate

Answer:	The thinnest cage wire is about .088 inches in diameter, while the door and frame wire/rod is .220 inches. Mine is strongly made and works well. I often put a rod through to hold up the door --which I pulled away with a length of black fishing line --in order to catch the feral cats we hadn't neutered yet --instead of racoons.

Answer:	It may be possible for animal to trigger door drop without being in trap, but unlikely. Open door, when set, is slightly above the top frame.

Answer:	Flip the trap upside down and then upright and it's set. An animal would have tip tip the trap completely upside down to escape which is highly unlikely. But you can always put something on top to keep an animal from flipping the trap.
