3 best deer protein feeders
Deer protein feeders, also known as protein supplement feeders, are specialized game feeders designed to provide deer with a high-protein diet to support their growth, antler development, and overall health. These feeders are popular among hunters and wildlife managers looking to enhance the well-being of deer populations in specific areas. Here are some key points about deer protein feeders:
Purpose:
- Deer protein feeders are used to supplement the natural diet of deer with protein-rich feed. This supplemental feeding is particularly beneficial in regions with limited natural forage or during periods of drought when natural food sources may be scarce.
Design:
- Deer protein feeders typically consist of a hopper or container that holds protein pellets or other high-protein deer feed.
- They are often equipped with a mechanism to dispense the feed at regular intervals or when triggered by a timer.
- Some protein feeders have adjustable height settings to accommodate different deer sizes.
Benefits:
- Antler Development: A diet rich in protein is crucial for the growth of deer antlers. Protein feeders can help improve the quality and size of antlers in bucks.
- Fawn Growth: Protein supplementation can aid in the healthy development of fawns, increasing their chances of survival.
- Herd Health: Ensuring deer have access to high-quality nutrition can contribute to the overall health and well-being of the entire deer population in a given area.
Placement:
- Proper placement of protein feeders is essential. They are typically positioned in areas frequented by deer, such as near known deer trails, water sources, or bedding areas.
- Placing protein feeders strategically can attract deer to specific hunting locations, providing opportunities for hunters.
Regulations:
- It's crucial to be aware of local regulations governing the use of protein feeders for hunting and wildlife management. These regulations may specify the type of feed, feeding schedules, and other restrictions.
Maintenance:
- Regular maintenance is necessary to keep protein feeders in good working condition. This includes cleaning the feeder, checking for clogs or malfunctions, and replenishing the feed as needed.
Types of Protein Feed:
- Deer protein feeders typically use specially formulated pellets or feeds designed to provide the necessary nutrients, including protein, vitamins, and minerals.
- Some protein feeds are fortified with additives like minerals and vitamins to meet the specific nutritional needs of deer.
Deer protein feeders can be valuable tools for hunters and wildlife enthusiasts who want to support the health and growth of deer populations in their area. However, their use should always align with local regulations and wildlife management goals to ensure responsible and ethical practices.

User questions & answers
Question: | Are these the square heavy duty legs or the round black legs |
Answer: | Absolutely! the frame components slide, the side bars are expandable to fit any Foodsafe! bucket up to 5 gallons |
Question: | How many leg sections come with this feeder? It seems I’m missing a few leg sections |
Answer: | The filter is in 2 parts. Top, flat-bottomed filter is the coarser filter. The lower filter is round-bottomed and of a very fine mesh. To clean the filters, separate them and wash them under cold, running tap water. Don't use hot water, as it will melt the wax and make it impossible to get the filters clean. The filters clean up easily with no sticky mess left |
Question: | How do you get this with the galvanized legs |
Answer: | Yes. The working area of the honeycomb is approximately 17.75x10. We have a Boss laser with a 15x30 bed. We use the smaller honeycomb when we work with acrylic to avoid smoke stains from residue on the larger bed |
Question: | Does this come with both gravity and electric feeder heads |
Answer: | Hello there, 6 months' warranty for the machines, not artificially damaged. We stand behind our products all the item, so even if your warranty period has expired, you can still seek for service or technical support from us with low cost. Question: | Trying to decide on getting 150 or 300? Anyone have both with advice on which |
Answer: | Round black legs. |
Question: | Would cows manage to eat from feeder |
Answer: | There should be 4 leg sections for each complete leg. Only 3 sections need to be used for the protein feeder then the 4th section can be used for a broadcast feeder setup. There should be 4 triangle boxes, each containing 3 leg sections. Thank you for asking. |
Question: | how durable |
Answer: | Not sure why you would want to do so. I have several feeders that have been out for 10 years and the legs are just fine. Make sure you put feet on them so they don’t sink in the mud/dirt |
