12 best deer plot mixes
Deer plot mixes, often referred to as food plots or deer forage plots, are specialized blends of seeds and plants that are cultivated in hunting areas and wildlife management settings to attract and nourish deer and other wildlife. These plots serve as a supplemental food source and can be a valuable tool for hunters and conservationists. Here's what you should know about deer plot mixes:
Purpose: Deer plot mixes are planted to provide supplemental nutrition to deer and other wildlife species, especially during seasons when natural food sources are scarce. They are commonly used to improve deer health, support antler growth, and increase hunting success.
Types of Deer Plot Mixes:
- Cool-Season Mixes: These blends typically consist of cool-season grasses like clover, wheat, oats, and brassicas. They are planted in the fall and provide green forage during the late fall and winter months.
- Warm-Season Mixes: Warm-season plot mixes are composed of plants like soybeans, cowpeas, and sorghum. They are planted in the spring and provide forage during the summer.
- Perennial Mixes: Some deer plot mixes include perennial plants like clover and alfalfa, which can provide forage year after year.
Plant Selection: The specific plants and seeds included in deer plot mixes are chosen for their attractiveness to deer, nutritional value, and adaptability to the local climate and soil conditions.
Site Preparation: Successful establishment of a deer plot requires proper site preparation. This typically involves clearing the land of competing vegetation, tilling the soil, and ensuring good seed-to-soil contact for optimal germination.
Maintenance: Deer plot mixes require ongoing maintenance, including mowing or discing to encourage new growth, controlling weeds, and providing supplementary nutrients if needed.
Hunting Strategy: Many hunters use deer plot mixes strategically to attract deer to specific areas, making it easier to observe and hunt them. These plots can be used in conjunction with hunting blinds or tree stands.
Wildlife Management: Deer plot mixes are not just for hunting; they can play a role in wildlife management and conservation efforts. They help support the overall health of the deer population and can benefit other wildlife as well.
Regulations: It's important for hunters and landowners to be aware of local regulations regarding the planting of deer plot mixes. Some areas may have rules about the size and location of food plots, as well as the timing of planting.
Seed Suppliers: There are numerous companies that specialize in producing and selling deer plot mix seeds. These suppliers often offer a range of blends tailored to different regions and purposes.
Environmental Impact: Landowners should consider the environmental impact of planting deer plot mixes. Properly managed plots can be beneficial, but overuse of certain plants or excessive planting can have ecological consequences.
In summary, deer plot mixes are specialized combinations of seeds and plants planted in designated areas to provide supplemental nutrition and attract deer and other wildlife. They are commonly used by hunters and wildlife enthusiasts to improve deer health, support antler growth, and enhance hunting opportunities. Proper site preparation, seed selection, and ongoing maintenance are key factors in the success of deer plot mixes.

Question: | When do I need to plant this for bow season in October |
Answer: | Hello! Greeting from Etude House. You can use it twice a day or anytime your skin feels dry. Have a nice day! |
Question: | Will this really take 2 weeks to ship to me |
Answer: | I haven't tried it on my lips. But it leaves your face incredibly soft and moisturized. Try one of their lip balms instead. Etude House has great lip products and it would be better spending your money on something made for and guaranteed to work on your lips. |
Question: | What's the latest I can't plant |
Answer: | It looks the same to me as it's always looked. I have ordered it a few times from different places (even Etude House). There are a few products in the Soon Jung line and they call come in different sizes. So that can be confusing. Do you mean the label in the photo or on your tube? |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you plant this in late july or early August |
Answer: | I would plant in spring. The seeds listed are for spring plantings, not late summer or fall. However, the instructions aren’t shown (back of bag) in the photo, and I planted this years ago so I have no label to look at. I do remember this is a good product and it produced a good food plot. If you have a warm season late into the year I suppose you could try to plant it, but here in July and August we get little rain and a lot of heat which would not produce a good crop at all. |
Question: | I am looking for a seed mix that rabbits would like, would they like this |
Answer: | Probably, it's a mixture of clover with rye grass it's very easy to plant and comes up well |
Question: | will this groe in lowe sun light |
Answer: | The grass grew well for me in low light but the rest did not. That being said I had two shooter bux four smaller bux and a doe family mowing it down. If you are unsure use some Durana clover. It's able to tolerate low light and grow well. I would use it with the throw n grow |
Question: | Why does bag in ad say covers 22,000 sq and bag you receive says covers 11,000 sq |
Answer: | Their picture does not match the actual product. Evolve does make a $22,000 square foot bag which is twice as expensive when I saw that I thought I was getting a real deal but it turned out to only be the 11,000 sqft. It is a good product easy to plant and comes up well it's $9.99 at Walmart |

Question: | Does it contain any salt |
Answer: | I would think so. I have grown it in Minnesota for the past several years with great success. |
Question: | Can you put it out in November in Wisconsin |
Answer: | What I did was rototill the ground, put some lime over the dirt, spread the seed, and roled a barrrel over the seed to make sure the seeds got seed to soil contact. Just make sure the seed is in contact with the soil and there are no weeds inhibating the clovers ability to grow. |

Answer: | It needs at least 5-6 hrs of sun light per day to grow to its potential. If your looking for something that grows in lower sunlight locations try Antler Kings game changer clover. The more sunlight the better. |

Question: | With correct soil p.h. can this be frost seeded in February in Washington state with good results |
Answer: | They go on the bottom of the white cushion seat and the blue seat. Makes the cushion removable and cleaning the seat easy. But honestly this is by far the easiest potty chair ever to clean! I’m a neat freak and have tried many different kinds with my kids. This is the best! |
Question: | does Imperial Whitetail Clover need an inoculant applied before planting |
Answer: | I suppose it could fit. In it’s description, “Suit for most standard toilets. Except the square shape or the height of your toilet is over 16" from the ground”. mine is 16 and it fits. |
Question: | I'm in central florida .... will this grow if planted in early November and last throught the winter ? Can it handle shady area's |
Answer: | Mine are more oval and fit perfect. I think the only toilet it won’t fit will be a square toilet. Some people said they had issues with height of the toilet for it not fitting. My toilets are all a little less than 16 inches from bottom to toilet seat. So, these work perfect. And I LOVE them! Very sturdy, easy to put together and easy to fold up when not using. |
Question: | Im from central texas if i plant in spring will it last throughout fall and winter months |
Answer: | The dimension of the potty training seat is as below FYI: the width from side to side is 16 cm (6.3 inches), the length from front to back is 23 cm (9 inches). |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it say when to plant |
Answer: | Two pounds is supposed to plant about 1/4 of an acre. |
Question: | What plants grow? I see a mix of greens but what is it clover, brassicas, rye, etc |
Answer: | When to Plant: DEER-RADISH is very hardy and will germinate in drier conditions than other common food plot crops; however, there must be some soil moisture available. Soil moisture is more critical than temperature. Plant early August in the North. Food plot size may also have an affect if the deer will eat and damage the plant before the season, but if you can put up a temporary barrier you should be fine. |
Question: | If one is $19.98, why are two $99.90? Is the two pack a different size bag? Are the pictures generic pictures that don't reflect the actual weight |
Answer: | the bulbs grow very bushy an big an it depends on how big a bag u use an how heavy u put it out to grow u should mix this product with oats or wheat makes a great plot |
Question: | Does it say when to plant |
Answer: | I planted in September in South Arkansas. I had a good stand before the first frost and then it was mowed to the roots by the deer. |

A One-Two Punch
Pure Attraction is a one-two punch for fall and winter food plots. It provides abundant, nutritious forage for fall and winter that grows rapidly and is extremely attractive to deer in both the early and late hunting seasons.
Stage One: Early Season
Stage one of Pure Attraction is Whitetail Oats. Whitetail Oats make a superb forage that's cold tolerant and high in sugar. They're so attractive to deer that university researchers had to remove them from their grain production studies because deer grazed them so heavily.
Stage Two: Late Season
Overlapping with stage one, stage two of Pure Attraction features extremely attractive lettuce-type brassicas. Whitetail Oats attract and hold deer well into late fall. By then, the brassicas are already working to attract deer. They become even sweeter with the frosts of fall, and keep attracting deer through the winter.
Planting
Pure Attraction is designed to be planted during Fall. Select a site with moderately light to medium heavy soils and that receives 3-4 hours of sunlight per day.
Pure Attraction
A one-two punch - Incredible Attraction in both the early and late hunting season.

Remote stands often provide the best opportunity for spotting mature bucks — and the worst location for a food plot. Without the ability to utilize machine cultivators or heavy amounts of soil additives, establishing a planting off the beaten trail can be challenging at best. The solution is BioLogic Hot Spot — a scientifically selected blend of winter peas and buckwheat designed to be fast-germinating, extremely attractive to deer and incredibly easy to plant. No soil-tilling is required; simply clear the ground and apply the seed over a 20-yard by 20-yard area. Ideal for planting near treestands and in woodland clearings — and for luring pressured bucks that shun high traffic locations.
- Simple to Plant and easy to grow
- Perfect for Bowhunters
- Can be planted with all hand tools
User questions & answers
Question: | what are the percent seeds that make this up |
Answer: | Like most green plants, the more moisture the faster and better plant growth you get. However this does seem to tolerate periods of low rainfall and still survive. I had good success with mine the year I planted it but I have found other plants that do a better job of attracting deer in my area so I have gone that route. |
Question: | Should you add lime to dirt first |
Answer: | 1/2 acre. They are very little seeds, so stray off with your spreader open very little then if need be you can always walk back over it. |
Question: | Is it for spring or late summer planting |
Answer: | The way I did it was I jus scratch the top of the ground real good where the dirt was loose throwed out seed and fertilize and it done great |
Question: | how often should I water |
Answer: | Dear Denver, Thank you for contacting us. We will confirm the same with the manufacturer and get back to you in next 24 hours. Kindly bear with us. Thanks, Alex. 805-576-7330. |
