7 best shimano jigging rods
Shimano is a well-respected brand in the fishing industry, known for producing a wide range of fishing equipment, including jigging rods. Shimano jigging rods are designed specifically for the technique of jigging, which is a popular method for catching a variety of fish species, especially in saltwater environments. Here are some key points about Shimano jigging rods:
Purpose: Jigging rods are designed for vertical jigging, a fishing technique that involves dropping a heavy lure (jig) vertically into the water and then rapidly retrieving it to entice fish to strike. These rods are typically shorter and sturdier than traditional fishing rods to handle the demands of jigging.
Materials: Shimano jigging rods are often constructed using high-quality materials to provide strength, sensitivity, and durability. Common materials include carbon fiber, graphite, and other composite materials.
Power and Action: These rods come in various power ratings (light, medium, heavy, etc.) and actions (fast, moderate, slow, etc.) to match different jig sizes and target species. The choice of power and action depends on the type of fishing you plan to do.
Length: Jigging rods are typically shorter than other fishing rods, often in the range of 5 to 6.5 feet. This shorter length allows for more precise control when working lures in deeper water.
Reel Compatibility: Shimano jigging rods are designed to be paired with specific Shimano reels or other compatible reels. Ensuring a good match between the rod and reel is essential for optimal performance.
Price Range: The price of Shimano jigging rods can vary widely depending on factors such as materials, design, and features. High-end models with advanced technology and materials may cost more, while entry-level options are available for those on a budget.
Saltwater Compatibility: Many Shimano jigging rods are designed for saltwater fishing and are built to withstand the corrosive effects of saltwater. They often come with features like corrosion-resistant guides and reel seats.
User Reviews: It's a good idea to read user reviews and seek advice from experienced anglers to determine which Shimano jigging rod is best suited for your specific fishing needs and preferences.
Keep in mind that Shimano may offer a range of jigging rods with different specifications, so it's essential to choose the one that aligns with your fishing style and target species. When purchasing a jigging rod, consider factors like the depth of water you'll be fishing in, the size of the jigs you plan to use, and the type of fish you want to catch.

Filling the void as a comprehensive high-end series, Grappler Type J has a place in every nearshore/offshore jigging angler's arsenal. Utilizing Shimano’s highest performing rod blank technologies, Spiral X and Hi-Power X, Grappler Type J blanks are 250% more structurally rigid and 180% less prone to twisting than rods with standard blank construction. With a diverse array of powers and lengths for fishing Shimano’s Butterfly Jig assortment, Grappler Type J is sure to conquer any situation.
- Spiral X construction enhances catching power for anglers. Spiral X construction consists of three layers: a middle layer of vertical fibers as well as inner and outer layers, both comprised of carbon tape that tightly winds the blank diagonally in opposite directions. By using this carbon tape in place of a conventional horizontal fiber sheet, Spiral X achieves enhanced compression rigidity and increased torsional rigidity without adding extra weight.
- Hi-Power X construction uses diagonally-wrapped carbon tape to form an array of “X” shapes on the rod blank’s outermost layer. The width of the tape, its winding angle and the part of the rod being wrapped are fine-tuned according to the target fish species. This manufacturing process allows Shimano to adjust these wraps during construction for precise actions, enhanced overall strength and added twist resistance. Hi-Power X construction delivers sharp and crisp rod control for the angler.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the tvs70l 2 piece or 1 piece. i've seen it listed as both. looking for 2 piece? thx |
Answer: | Sorry Shimano Trevala DOES NOT make a 7' two piece jigging rod. I would be interested if they did, to travel with. I love my two piece trevala's because I travel with them. I have the 6'6" 50-100 which is my favorite. Excellent all around action. The 5'8" 80-200 is VERY stiff! I caught a baracuda trolling with it and didn't even know. I hope that helps your decision making. |
Question: | Is the tvs70l light enough for a 4000 series reel |
Answer: | It definitely is light enough for a 4000. I have two of these rods paired with a 4000 shimano bait runner and a 6000 |
