10 best bass rods
Bass rods are a type of fishing rod designed specifically for targeting bass, a popular game fish species among anglers. These rods are an essential tool for bass fishing enthusiasts, as they provide the necessary sensitivity, power, and control required to effectively catch bass. Here are some key features and information about bass rods:
Length and Action: Bass rods come in various lengths and actions, which determine their performance characteristics. Common lengths range from 6 to 8 feet, with longer rods typically used for casting and shorter ones for accuracy in close quarters. The action of a rod refers to its flexibility, and bass rods can be categorized as fast, medium, or slow action, depending on their bending curve.
Power: Power in a bass rod relates to its ability to handle different lure weights and line strengths. Bass rods are typically rated as light, medium-light, medium, medium-heavy, or heavy power. The choice of power depends on the type of lures and fishing techniques being used.
Materials: Bass rods are commonly constructed from materials like fiberglass, graphite, or a combination of both (composite). Graphite rods are known for their sensitivity and lightweight feel, making them a popular choice among bass anglers.
Handle and Reel Seat: The handle of a bass rod can be made from materials like cork, foam, or EVA, and it provides a comfortable grip for the angler. The reel seat is where the reel is attached to the rod, and it should securely hold the reel in place.
Techniques: Bass fishing involves various techniques, such as casting, flipping, pitching, and finesse fishing. Different rod lengths and actions are better suited for specific techniques. For example, a shorter rod with a fast action is suitable for accurate casting and flipping into tight cover, while a longer rod with medium or medium-heavy power is ideal for long-distance casting.
Line and Lure Compatibility: It's essential to match the rod's specifications with the appropriate fishing line and lures. The rod's power rating will determine the line strength it can handle effectively, and the lure weight rating will help you choose the right lures for the rod.
Specialization: Some bass rods are designed for specific bass fishing applications, such as crankbait rods, spinnerbait rods, or swimbait rods. These specialized rods are optimized for particular techniques and lure types.
Cost and Quality: The price of bass rods can vary widely based on their quality and features. High-quality rods with advanced materials and craftsmanship tend to be more expensive but offer better performance and durability.
Maintenance: To keep your bass rod in good condition, it's essential to rinse it with freshwater after each use, check for any damage, and store it properly to prevent bending or breakage.
Bass rods play a crucial role in the success of bass fishing endeavors, and choosing the right rod for your specific needs and preferences is essential to maximize your chances of landing that prized bass.

User questions & answers
Question: | What size reel do you recommend for the 6'7" spinning rod. Maybe 10 to 12 lb test line. For bass |
Answer: | I say the 3000 or 4000, you can put 300 yards of 10lb Power Pro with no problem. Not sure you need the stopping power the 4000 provides but good if you only change your line a couple times a year |
Question: | Ocean fishing which one would be best, mh/m or the ml/m |
Answer: | Not a heavy enough rod. 24 ton carbon is to light for me. I redfish and snook heavily and this rod is built for trout and bass. It is a very nice rod. But for me way to light to handle saltwater fish. Would be good for sea trout. |
Question: | For the 2 pc with 2 tips rods, do they feel significantly different, does the mh/ with the m tip feel like a normal m |
Answer: | It does feel different but they both feel a bit stiff. It worked fine for me but a M feels like MH and a MH feels H. I enjoy it making my rod work for different locations |
Question: | Ocean fishing which one would be best, mh/m or the ml/m |
Answer: | MH/M.... you want the Med Heavy power to hold on to a harder fighting fish. And a Medium action, as you will be in current, and a fast tip will throw off your hook set. I fish in the Pacific, and mainly jig for rock fish. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this rod be used for salt water for trophy striped bass"rock fish" in the Chesapeake Bay |
Answer: | It handled a 55 lb Blue fin Tuna (on the heavy rod) out of San Diego and numerous yellow fin up to 40 lbs as well as pacific yellow tail up to 30 lbs. I would think it would deal with east coast "rock fish" just fine. |
Question: | Is it good for bass fishing |
Answer: | The handle is too short to be comfortable for continuous casting (which is what I do when fishing for bass). It's great for a one time bait casting (for catfish etc) and is really tough. |
Question: | Can this rod handle Pacific saltwater surface fish such as smaller yellowtail, Pacific barracuda and sand or calico bass |
Answer: | i just caught a 5ft bull shark on the 6ft medium rod with a penn battle 4000 on it and i usually use the rod for my micro rig but blew my mind this thing was bent in a u and I was waiting for it to snap but held strong the whole fight. reel seat felt stressed but it held. |
Question: | How many lbs can ugly stik gx2 casting rod catch |
Answer: | The rod is not the thing to gauge the size of the fish you can catch unless you are fishing for marlin or some other giant game fish. It's the strength/weight of the line. And even then skillful anglers can catch fish much bigger than the number arbitrarily on the box of line they buy. So if you are fishing in a pond or river for blue gills or brookies or bass then choose a line suited for the size of fish that exist in that water. The world record bass is just over 17 pounds. So maybe the fish you can catch from your favorite pond will be less than that and a line suited to 10 pound bass or 2 pound brookies might work better. I always fish with light line so I can feel when the fish bites. Anyway that's my opinion. Hope it helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Im trying to decide which one of your reels would go well with this rod or what specifics i should be looking for in any reel for this rod |
Answer: | My 6.9 spinning rod paired this with a 3000 size spin reel with 30lb braid line. It fit nicely and have seen no damage on the guides. With the floating guides, I felt adds support to my line and I seem to feel the water more, if that makes sense. I hooked an amber jack from the pier unexpectedly, and I was amazed! At first it was heavy but then it ran under the pier and made this rod bent a full 'U'. YOU CAN JIG WITH THIS! and then my 20lb leader broke but not the rod. Its a very fun rod. I will try the casting rod after. |
Question: | The Casting rod has the trigger underneath right |
Answer: | yes 24 ton casting rod does have a trigger |
Question: | Can the rods be used semi-collapsed? If I’m trolling or bobbing in a canoe could I telescope out just 3 feet and use it |
Answer: | Yes you can but its really tough to set the hook you end up extending it and not all the i holes line up which causes problems when reeling in and unless your using braided line you might snap a monofilament or fluorocarbon line. Honestly this rod is awesome for dock, shore, canoe or boat fishing. For trolling I use my daughters old kiddy rod with my small spinning reel. Don't get me wrong I love these rods I have 3 but trolling is a different style of fishing |
Question: | Someone told me this rod is similar to the Kastking Blackhawk 2? Is this true |
Answer: | I Would Say Yes! The Rods Are Very Similar To The Kastking Blackhawk II. Unfortunately, I Didn't Get a Chance to Enjoy, or Use them. All The Reels I Have, Would Not Fit Tight in the Reel Seat. So I Returned them. If the Reels You Have, Or Purchase Will Fit, I Think You'd Be Happy with these Rods. Tight Lines!!!!!!!!!!!! |

User questions & answers
Question: | What’s the maximum drag for this rod |
Answer: | Rods don't have drag, reels do. |
Question: | Do you have the same pole but longer than 7ft |
Answer: | I do not |
Question: | How do you think this rod would do being paired with a KastKing Centron 2000 spinning reel |
Answer: | I have the matching Plusinno PL3000 on mine. I’m thinking if you’re not using anything heavier than 10lb test then you’re fine. A slightly smaller reel with smaller line diameter might get you a little more distance. A lot of this is trial and error. |
Question: | Is the mh power - mhc rod suitable for as kast king rover with 30lb mono? i fish for stripers, fluke and sea bass in the ocean and inlets of li ny |
Answer: | I'm using MH as a 2pc rod when hiking river and wading for pike where I don't want to use one of my expensive rods. Compared to TFO and St Croix rods it would fall between an M and MH. I believe I got it for 23 dollars black Friday sale when I can get it on sale for say 30 bucks I will buy a 2nd. Its only been on a few outings and as long as the blank doesn't break I buy another. Just seems like a decent build and guides and I like the reel seat and grip. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How big are each of the pieces on the 9ft rod |
Answer: | The rod itself will hold up great against catfish, its a medium heavy 7 ft so it can easily handle 20+ Lb. fish. We are actually using a similar blank to design our upcoming Catfish Combo. However, I wouldn't recommend this combo for strictly Catfishing because the low profile baitcasting reel is optimized for Bass (condensed, light-weight, speed), so the braid capacity max is 50 Lb x 100 yds. I would recommend getting a round baitcasting reel that can spool on 50 Lb x 200-300 yds of braid. |
Question: | Are the guides K-Style? (Angled forward, or 90 degrees to the blank |
Answer: | Right handed, not reversible. Thanks for asking! |
Question: | Whats the 9' medium model # ? is it ugsa90m2s ? thanks |
Answer: | Yes, this baitcasting reel sports a magnetic breaking system |
Question: | what type of fishing would this rod be best for, with lure (jigs, poppers, pencil poppers, buck tales) or would you use this rod for chunkin bait |
Answer: | It can be used in Saltwater, but baitcasters in general are a challenge in saltwater upkeep. There are some premium models in the high dollar range that have salt resistant designs but you still need to put in the leg work in terms of cleaning and maintenance. A baitcaster's gears and breaking systems rely on a lot of moving parts that are tucked away and hard to reach. This sounds good for saltwater, but no matter what some water is going to get in. Accessing these areas after each trip, rinsing, drying, and lubbing is more challenging on a baitcaster than a spinning reel. If you are just getting started with Inshore Saltwater, I recommend using a spinning combo like our Multispecies Freshwater & Inshore. Spinning reels are less condensed and more open, while more water gets in they are easy to rinse and dry out. However, if you are trying to expand your Inshore game by starting to baitcast this one is a great pick. You just need to be committed to proper saltwater reel maintenance as required by all baitcasting reels in the backwaters. |
