Answer:	I never sat in the ocean with this chair but my best educated guess being that the canvas is very tightly woven is that the water will dissipate out the sides very easily but under your body, the water may stay focused...my two cents worth. Absolutely a great chair for lounging on the shore; extremely comfortable and easy to maneuver...even on a bicycle!
Question:	Can I sit in this chair in shallow water (shoreline or shallow stream) without it rusting or harming the fabric

Answer:	It depends on how big your pockets are. It is a solid double sided fly box about 3x4x2. I do not like a bunch of stuff in my way when casting. So I tend to slip it into a trouser pocket and change flies on shore. But I know many people do like to be able to change things up and if the vest pockets are made with enough slack for a 2inch I think it's a good solid fly box and like it.

Handle and net are plenty long enough to land small to medium sized trout and other fish typically caught fly fishing.
