13 best fluorocarbon lines
Fluorocarbon lines are a type of fishing line that has gained popularity among anglers due to their unique properties and advantages. Here's what you need to know about fluorocarbon lines:
1. Composition:
- Fluorocarbon Material: Fluorocarbon lines are made from a special type of polymer that includes fluorine atoms. This composition makes the line nearly invisible underwater, which is a significant advantage in fishing situations where fish might be line-shy.
2. Low Visibility:
- Invisibility Underwater: Fluorocarbon lines have a refractive index similar to that of water, making them less visible to fish. This characteristic is especially useful in clear water conditions and when targeting finicky or cautious fish species.
3. Abrasion Resistance:
- Durability: Fluorocarbon lines are highly resistant to abrasion, which means they can withstand rubbing against rocks, submerged structures, and other underwater obstacles without easily breaking. This durability makes them suitable for various fishing environments.
4. Sensitivity:
- High Sensitivity: Fluorocarbon lines have low stretch properties, providing excellent sensitivity. Anglers can feel even subtle bites and movements, allowing for quicker and more accurate hook sets.
5. Sink Rate:
- Heavier Than Water: Fluorocarbon lines are denser than water, causing them to sink. This sink rate can be advantageous when fishing certain depths or when a sinking presentation is desired.
6. Resistance to UV Light and Water:
- UV and Water Resistance: Fluorocarbon lines are resistant to UV light and do not absorb water. This means they maintain their strength and integrity over time, even with prolonged exposure to sunlight and moisture.
7. Knot Strength:
- Good Knot Strength: Fluorocarbon lines generally have good knot strength when tied properly. It's essential to use appropriate fishing knots to maximize the line's effectiveness.
8. Applications:
- Versatility: Fluorocarbon lines are suitable for various fishing techniques, including finesse fishing, bass fishing, saltwater fishing, and fly fishing. Anglers use fluorocarbon lines for both freshwater and saltwater applications.
9. Considerations:
- Price: Fluorocarbon lines are typically more expensive than monofilament lines. However, many anglers consider the benefits, such as invisibility and abrasion resistance, to be worth the extra cost.
- Handling: Fluorocarbon lines can be stiffer than other types of fishing lines, affecting how they handle on the reel and during casting. Some anglers prefer to use fluorocarbon lines as leaders rather than main fishing lines for this reason.
When choosing a fishing line, anglers often consider the specific fishing conditions, target species, and personal preferences.Fluorocarbon lines are a popular choice for anglers seeking low visibility, high sensitivity, and excellent abrasion resistance in their fishing lines.

User questions & answers
Question: | diameter of 4# line |
Answer: | according to Berkley website diameter is .009" |
Question: | Will this line @ 17lbs be able to handle 13-24lb salmon & steelhead |
Answer: | Yes it will . I have landed a 23 lb striper on 10lb Vanish Fluorocarbon. Strong line. |
Question: | Do you have to wet knots before pulling tight to avoid breaking |
Answer: | Yes. Lubing the knot prior to pulling it tight prevents friction that may damage the line. Highly recommended practice for mono and fluorocarbon line. |
Question: | What's the difference between fishing line and fishing leader of the same lb. test |
Answer: | Leader goes on the end of any fishing line. This line would do well to add on 2-10 feet to your existing line. Not for pike or walleye type of fishing where a more structurally type of leader is needed. It's really just a basic fishing line that's a little better to add to a bigger inexpensive line if used as a leader. I'm buying to spool it all on though. |
- KastKing - the ICAST 2015 Award winning brand, releases the new 2016 FluoroKote Fishing line. It's a combination of the No.1 selling KastKing Copolymer Fishing Line with high-tech 100% fluorocarbon coating that reduces the line's visibility when immersed in water.
- The combination of the two materials maximizes the advantage of fluorocarbon invisibility with the low memory and superior castability of copolymer. So you can have similar qualities and performance of fluorocarbon at a lower price.
- Low Stretch, high strength, superior abrasion resistance, higher density, and greatly reduced visibility make KastKing FluoroKote Fishing Line a great upgrade from mono line and ideal low cost alternative to fluorocarbon line.
- The diameters of the FluoroKote are less than KastKing Copolymer Fishing lines or other monofilament lines, resulting in a smaller, stronger line that gives you more reel capacity and increased depth with diving baits.
- KastKing FluoroKote Fluorocarbon fishing line sinks faster with low absorption. The unique fluorocarbon materials make the line extremely durable, offer great knot strength, and exceed in sensitivity. KastKing FluoroKote Line is extremely versatile, giving anglers piece of mind to fish almost any conditions and techniques with confidence.
User questions & answers
Question: | I’m looking to use this line to hang photos from the moulding in my home. Is this line close to invisible |
Answer: | Our Fluorokote is a clear line, you should have no problems with it. |
Question: | Does this creates bird nest frequently |
Answer: | I have found it’s not frequent at birds-nesting, but when it does it is very hard to get out because of the lack of flex. Most of the time for me I just cut them out because I spool low amounts at a time. |
Question: | What would be the downside of using 15-pound line for smaller fish, so I can use this for lakes and inshore salt water |
Answer: | no problems with smaller fish, but the inshore salt this line is not for the bigger fish in salt water, you would probably need a thicker line like 20 or 30 lb line, great flourocarbon for the price, caught a 5lb bass no problens, line didn't break, used a 1/2 oz spinner bait with no complications |
Question: | Do you no longer carry the 30lb test |
Answer: | I’m not totally for sure, but I think fluorokote only goes up to 25lb test. That said, the strength of the 25 is as strong, if not stronger than your typical 30lb line. |

Question: | what pound test is avsilable |
Answer: | You would have to check the Amazon site for pound test available. I had ordered only one size which was 4 lb test several months ago. You might also check someplace like Bass Pro Shops to see what sizes are manufactured. |
Question: | Is the EZ Braid 4 or 8 strand |
Answer: | I believe the EZ is less than 4 strands. Dura-4 is 4 strands. Stealth is 8 strands. Ive used this EZ braid, cheap, you get what you pay for. |
Question: | size chart compared to mono |
Answer: | Not sure what mean by size of both. It's much better line than mono. |

This can be an exceptional benefit when using it as a mainline or when using it as a fluorocarbon leader line material attached to low stretch braided or super lines. Kovert Fluorocarbon line is also waterproof, so it has the same strength, sensitivity and handling characteristics under the water as it does dry.
- FAST SINKING/HIGHLY SENSITIVE – Kovert 100% Fluorocarbon line is 80% heavier than water so it sinks much faster than traditional mono fishing lines. This can be a distinct advantage in many fishing situations. Its highly sensitive nature also improves strike detection and improves the feel of your fishing line while increasing your hook-up ratio.

User questions & answers
Question: | What size double barrel crimp for the 50 LB /.70diam |
Answer: | You just want to find crimps with a inside diameter of at least .071 since different brands use different sizing scale that I know of anyway. |
Question: | I purchased a box of kovert and the front said a product of germany but the back said made in china. can you explain what this means |
Answer: | When KastKing first brought it out they said the string was made in Germany and then shipped in bulk to China for packaging! I have not had any trouble with the leaders I’ve made with mine! |
Question: | What is shelf life of flouro as opposed to mono? I ask because it would take me a long time to use 200 yards of this product as a leader material |
Answer: | Probably about the same shelf life. If the line is kept in a dark, relatively cool place it should be fine. I replace all the line on my reels at the start of every season. |
Question: | What’s the difference between the leader material and the other line |
Answer: | You can use this line as either leader material or your main line. The leader spools are just smaller because you don't need as much if you're not filling the reel. |

Question: | How many yards |
Answer: | There are 25 yards on the spool |
Question: | I need the diameter of 0.58, 0.66 and 0.81mm. Can anyone tell me the corresponding pound number? Thanks |
Answer: | 30lb=.520 mm .020 in 40lb=.620 mm .024 in 50lb=.660 mm .028 in 60lb=.740 mm .029 in 80lb=.810 mm .032 in https://www.seaguar.com/saltwater/fluorocarbon.html |
Question: | Is fluorocarbon leader different from plain fluorocarbon? Also what's the difference between fluorocarbon and mono |
Answer: | Fluoro is fluoro but quality varies based on manufacture. Seaguar is tried and true and hard to go wrong with. Mono filament is not as transparent once it goes into the water as fluoro is due to how they refract light. Fluoro is also more abrasion resistant than mono generally is. Once you get to 100+ lb leaders, most say fluoro is not necessary plus they get very expensive at that point as well. |
Question: | How many millimetre(mm.) of diameter for 50lbs seaguar blue label 25yards fluocarbon leader |
Answer: | 50 Lb Blue Label is exactly .660 mm per the label on the 25 yd spool. On the 80 Lb Blue Label the diameter is exactly .810 mm per the label on the 25 yd spool |

Question: | how many yards in 10# spool |
Answer: | Our products do not filter out radioactive materials. |
Question: | What are spool dimensions (width and diameter |
Answer: | The water filter pitcher comes with (1) Membrane Microfilter and (1) Activated Carbon + Ion Exchange Filter. The Membrane Microfilter removes bacteria, parasites and microplastics and lasts up to 264 gallons (about a year). The Activated Carbon filter lasts up to 40 gallons (or 2 months) reduces chemicals, including PFAS, pesticides and herbicides, and heavy metals, including lead, mercury, chromium III, cadmium and copper. |
Question: | How many yards on the 20lb spool |
Answer: | I've had this for quite a few months now and I actually brought it into work, and I refill it twice a day (I'm trying to drink more water). I'm a pharmacy technician and only get (2) 15 minute breaks during 8 to 10 hour shifts, so I've got to be quick when I refill this. I did buy the silicone sleeve and I do think it helps :-) I have not had any problems with this breaking and I am a klutz lol, especially with how quickly I have to handle & refill & put this back in the fridge. I bought mine from life straws web page, so I haven't done a review since it wouldn't be a verified purchase. |
Question: | Is this a fluorescent fishing line does a glow in the dark |
Answer: | None that are advertised, this filter is purify water and raise the PH level to about 10 PH. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Hello can I use this line as a leader for salmon and steelhead fishing? How visible is it in the water |
Answer: | I have not fished for either specie using this line. I can only surmise that this would be a most acceptable use leader for any big game. Abraxx is the most abrasion line I have ever used. |
Question: | What the difference between abrazx and abrazx ice |
Answer: | I have no idea. Maybe the "ice" is meant for ice fishing? Who knows! |
Question: | Rocks piers docks have sharp edges.which line is the best for this conditions so that the line dosen't snap off or break |
Answer: | I have been using this line exclusively for about 2 years and have had great success in all type of conditions, i.e. flipping and pitching, top water, crank bait etc. Most of the time when I break it is my fault, because I kinked the line previously and didn't cut it off. I don't use it on my spinning reels because it gets twisted too much and I spend too much time trying to fix it. |
Question: | what is the deferent between 4lb and 4-Pound |
Answer: | 4 lb and 4 pounds lines ARE different. Read the specs between the two. For example 4 lb is Fluorocarbon while 4 pounds is Polyvinylidene Fluoride. You’ll notice a price difference too. |
