Answer: Do not foam roll your lower back. You can actually injure yourself badly from doing this. You should only foam roll as far down as your rib cage as it offers support. Majority of physical therapist will tell you not to foam roll your lower back. Anyone that says otherwise is a delusional internet therapist that will be hurting others.

Answer: I would call it extra-firm, as it has very little give. It's more like a dense, hardened styrofoam than the rubbery foam you might be accustomed to in athletic/physical therapy supplies.

Question: How's is it on your back have back pain
Answer: I bought this for sciatica and since it did not come with directions I looked up u tube videos by physical therapists using a foam roller. This particular one is very firm and dense and at first is uncomfortable to use but helped some. I have since seen medium and softer foam rollers on u tube that are said to work just as well. I would ask your doctor about using this one on your back as it is really firm and dense. As I said above, I specifically bought it to work on my sciatica. So I would suggest looking up u tube videos for back pain using a foam roller before purchasing and again clearing it with your doctor to avoid further pain.
