User questions & answers
Question: | Would Safari 10x7, 10x10, or larger, be the better choice for 3-season solo mountain backcountry camping? Weight or price difference not important |
Answer: | I have both the 10x7 and 10x10 and use them both and like both. I think if you are using the tarp for shelter as a tent then the 10x10 would be better due to the fact it’s square which allows more configurations for shelter and is more versatile. If you are using it at camp to sit under to keep rain/night damp air while enjoying the evening then either would do. I hope this has been helpful in your decision. |
Question: | On the safari tarp olive kit, 6 "boa" straps and 6 pegs add 70 dollars to the price over the tarp only? or is there more added that i am not seeing |
Answer: | from what I gather the Boa are bungees. |
Question: | Does this come with straps and pegs? Just received my tarp in the mail and it's only the tarp and bag. No hardware |
Answer: | It depends on if you buy the set or just the tarp. You should know if you bought the set that comes with the straps, it costs more. |
Question: | Shoild i get the heavy duty or thisightweight for bicycle touring |
Answer: | We don't bike, but we backpack. We would take the lightweight one for backpacking. The lightweight one is thicker than many other lightweight tarps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I tried assorted tarps. After a long pounding rain fall eventually moisture works it way through and starts to drip. How dose this do |
Answer: | This does great - no drips, even with pools of water way heavier than should ever be allowed to accumulate. However, are you sure you are not experiencing drips from condensation? Changes in ambient temperature will cause accumulation and drips on the underside of the tarp. While the tarp itself is not "leaking" it can produce plenty of drips that may make it seem so. |
Question: | is this tarp a full 10x |
Answer: | If you're perhaps looking for a tarp that's bigger and the same quality as this one, look up the Aqua-Quest "King Kamo" |
Question: | Weight? Listed as 3.5 lbs for camo, only 0.9 lbs for green... Is this true |
Answer: | The camo is 70D nylon (tougher but heavier), while the green one is 40D (Ultralight/backpacking tarp). Both are high quality and designed for different roles. |
Question: | Are there grommets on this tarp |
Answer: | Thanks for the question. We actually decided to use reinforced webbing tie-out loops for our tarps because they are much more durable, wont rip out of the tarp the way grommets could and are very versatile whether you use paracords or our compression straps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this tarp make crinkle/plastic type noises while being setup or in wind |
Answer: | Not at all. Very soft nylon. |
Question: | How would this work for a SUV rear shelter |
Answer: | Its very durable...it would work fine...but you may want to look into a vehicle specific unit for a custom fit. |
Question: | The "guide" or the "camo"? Same size, around the same price, big difference in weight. For camping purposes, which do people recommend? Thanks |
Answer: | If you are backpacking the "guide" is made of 40 Denier Nylon and consequently lighter in weight (less than a pound), but if you are using a motorized vehicle to haul your gear the "camo" would probably be more durable and resistant to abuse since it is made of 70 Denier Nylon (2.7 pounds?). I use the "guide" because I backpack and prefer lightweight gear. |
Question: | Exactly how much does this tarp weigh, in grams and/or ounces? I would like to use it for lightweight backpacking, so every ounce counts. Thank you |
Answer: | It's 605 grams (1lb and 5.3 oz). The dry bag that comes with it adds 15 grams (0.5 oz). It's a great tarp. |

Question: | Hi , the tarp 15x15 includes stakes and guyline cord |
Answer: | No It’s just the tarp. I bought 400 feet of para cord and some stakes to go with it. it’s super high quality - I just used it on 2 trips and through thunderstorms. It’s the same material as a high quality waterproof rain jacket unlike a poly tarp. |

Question: | Is the long green panel water proof like the Aqua Quest tarps of the same color |
Answer: | Hi there, The Aqua Quest tarps of the same colour are the Guide Series with 40D RipStop Nylon. The panel on this bivy is actually made with a little stronger 70D Ripstop Nylon, so it's the same as the Safari Series! Hope that helps! Christina |

User questions & answers
Question: | is this breathable |
Answer: | I've used this bag for many years for absolutely "dry" storage on my motorcycle while encountering just about every kind of weather conditions on the road. It seals well and completely, keeping everything I pack in it dry.. I really don't think it's "breathable"... It's just totally waterproof, and it does that well. |
Question: | What is the difference between this bag (the tote) and the 'Mariner |
Answer: | We only have 'the tote' so we haven't seen 'the mariner', but from the photos it looks like the mariner is a shiny TPU Coated material, whereas the one we have is matte looking |
Question: | What is the color of the bag actually? Can someone show a picture |
Answer: | Hi Michael! The color of the bag is a dark, blueish grey color. This pack is amazing for what it is: very light and very tough!Let us know if you have any other questions!ThanksMo - Gear Out Here |
Question: | Will this bag work in extreme cold enviroments to avoid condensation with cameras and lenses |
Answer: | Hi Cesar,This bag will work in very cold temperatures and will not crack or freeze. Condensation will depend on the humidity and environment, but we have not heard and customers complain about condensation.Let me know if you have any other questions.CheersAnna |
