Answer:	I tried putting Danish oil on mine but the wood itself is not very attractive. I think that paint or stain would be the best option. I let my daughter paint hers and glue little beads, charms, and glitter to her heart's content.

Answer:	I don't know how large your containers are, but the interior of this box is pretty small. Only about an inch depth with another 1/4" max when the lid is closed.

Answer:	Yes. The quality on these are ok, but probably not something I would consider for a gift box. I suppose if you plan to paint or otherwise finish it, and can smooth the top so it fits flush, it would do. The latch is pretty flimsy though, and the one on mine is crooked.The boxes are also very light, which isn't a problem, but figured you should know. If you are planning to use several, I would get just one at first to check out the quality.
