13 best kayaks paddles
Kayak paddles are essential equipment for kayaking, a popular water sport and outdoor recreational activity. These paddles are designed specifically for use with kayaks, and they play a crucial role in propelling the kayak through the water. Here is some information about kayak paddles:
Materials: Kayak paddles are typically made from a variety of materials, including:
- Aluminum: Lightweight and affordable, aluminum paddles are a good choice for beginners or recreational kayakers.
- Fiberglass: Fiberglass paddles are known for their durability and are often preferred by intermediate paddlers.
- Carbon Fiber: Carbon fiber paddles are the lightest and most advanced option, offering excellent performance for experienced kayakers.
- Plastic: Some entry-level kayaks come with plastic paddles, which are economical but less durable and efficient than other materials.
Blade Design: The blade design of a kayak paddle can affect its performance. There are typically two types of blade shapes:
- Symmetrical: These blades are the same shape on both sides, making them versatile and suitable for various kayaking styles.
- Asymmetrical: Asymmetrical blades have a more pronounced shape on one side, which can improve efficiency and reduce flutter during the stroke.
Feathering: Many kayak paddles are designed with the option to feather the blades. Feathering means that the blades are set at an angle to each other. Feathered paddles can reduce wind resistance during the recovery phase of the stroke, making it easier to paddle in windy conditions.
Shaft Design: The shaft of a kayak paddle can be straight or bent. Bent shafts are ergonomically designed to reduce wrist strain and are favored by some paddlers for added comfort during long trips.
Length: Choosing the right paddle length is crucial. The ideal length depends on factors like the width of the kayak, your height, and your paddling style. Most paddles are adjustable to accommodate different preferences.
Weight: The weight of the paddle can impact your comfort and endurance while kayaking. Lighter paddles are generally easier to use over extended periods, but they may come at a higher cost.
Grip Type: Kayak paddles have various grip options, including T-grips and palm grips. The choice of grip is a matter of personal preference, and some kayakers may find one more comfortable than the other.
Drip Rings: Drip rings are small attachments on the shaft of the paddle designed to prevent water from dripping down onto your hands and into the kayak. They help keep you dry and maintain a good grip.
Price Range: Kayak paddles come in a range of prices, with higher-quality materials and advanced features typically associated with a higher cost.
Maintenance: Regular maintenance, such as rinsing off saltwater or freshwater residue and inspecting for any damage, is important to keep your kayak paddle in good condition.
In conclusion, choosing the right kayak paddle is essential for an enjoyable and efficient kayaking experience. Consider factors such as materials, blade design, feathering, shaft type, length, weight, grip, and price to select a paddle that suits your skill level, preferences, and intended use. Proper care and maintenance will ensure your paddle lasts for many seasons of kayaking adventures.

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the weight of this paddle |
Answer: | They could definitely be a quick on the go bag that you would stash in your car but they aren't big. But to stash a clean diaper, Baggie of wipes and change of clothes in there would be brilliant because we have all had that blowout or leaky diaper and this would be an all inclusive answer for what you would need fix that problem. With all of this being said, when I used them for cloth diapers, I used them IN the diaper bag. Now I have a new set that I use for pump parts :) |
Question: | Is this for one or two |
Answer: | They aren't made for drenched things like soaked swimsuits etc... they are made for cloth diapers that are damp from urine. I have 4 and have never dealt with a leaking problem yet. Be sure to not wash or dry them with softener. Softener causes buildup and leakage. I hope this helps! |
Question: | where is paddle made |
Answer: | I've never seen an insert fur this bag. You get the drawstring bag with your purchase. I use this bag due my gym bag and feel if it had an insert it would take away space |
Question: | weight of paddle |
Answer: | I thought I would use the strap, but I took it off because the ropes were fine, even with a coat on. Also, they don't need to be separated to get stuff in/out of the bag. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How minty paddles do you get |
Answer: | It will work with an 8 foot kayak. Lots of variables to consider. I am 5’2” and have a 10 foot kayak. I have this paddle now and it works fine. I prefer this size paddle or longer (I used a 96” paddle for a few years). I would rather not lean at all to paddle. I prefer to sit back the whole time. My kiddo has an 8’ kayak and she was 4’10” using this size paddle and preferred it over the 80 something inch she had before. |
Question: | does this paddle float |
Answer: | It's oceanbroad, not oceanbored. We manufacture in China. |
Question: | Is this the correct size paddle to use with a 8 ft kayak |

Question: | Who makes the brand oceanbored I can't find it anywhere on the internet |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it float |
Answer: | It seems the drip rings on the 2020 version are not as good as the 2019 version. My 2019 drip rings hold in place on the shaft, but my wife's 2020 paddle drip rings slide all over the place (usually down to the blade), and so are ineffective at stopping water from running down the shaft to her hands. I did notice another difference between my wife's 2020 Poseidon paddle and mine. Her 2020 has a nice, almost rubbery-feeling coating on the shaft that makes the shaft feel very comfortable and easy to grip. Mine does not, and is basically just painted aluminum. Mine also has what appears to be a shaft made of multiple aluminum tubes joined together - not just the actual 2-piece joint, but a fixed joint nearer to my hands. My hands often slide to this joint, which has a bit of a sharp edge where one tube is inserted into the other. My wife's 2020 Poseidon has no such joints, only the 2-piece disconnect. FWIW, we'd been using a Carlisle Daytripper before getting the Poseidons, and the Daytripper now stays on shore. Huge upgrade and so quiet in the water. Love these paddles, but wish we could have the old drip rings on the new paddle. |
Question: | Does this paddle float |
Answer: | I'm not sure on the actual weight but it is very light weight |
Question: | Does it have hand grips |
Answer: | I’ve been using the paddle for three months and I have had no issues whatsoever with the locking mechanism. Love the paddle. |
Question: | is this a two-piece, meaning it comes apart for easy storage |
Answer: | No. |
- 86 inch assembled length
- Ribbed spoon shaped blades for maximum performance
- Strong and lightweight aluminium shaft
- 3-position feather adjustability

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the "blue & white" paddle look like the picture posted? The picture shows a pretty sea foam green color but the description doesn't match that |
Answer: | I have cut one. I wanted to shorten it by 20cm to make it a good length for whitewater use. It isn't as easy as just cutting off one end. I drilled out the rivets holding the blade on. Cut 10cm off the end. Removed the rubber plug that keeps the shaft water tight so the paddle floats. Put the blade back on the shaft and aligned it with the other side. Drilled a hole for the new rivet. Removed blade to reinstall the plug, just deeper than the rivet hole in the cut shaft. Riveted the blade back on. Repeat the process on the other end. It wasn't hard if you are mechanical and have the 3/16 rivets. |
Question: | Does this paddle have a lot of flex to it |
Answer: | Don't know exactly, but its certainly NOT the USA. Probably China. Its decent qualit, at a great price, something we can't do. |
Question: | Does anybody know if by cutting one side of the aluminium pipe you can adjust the length |
Answer: | One |
Question: | Where was this product made |
Answer: | To the Seller why leave out that info that it floats? |
