User questions & answers
Question: | Does anyone else experience head/eye aches with this snorkel after about 45 min. use? Any advice on how to remedy this |
Answer: | I have this snorkel and love it except for the comfort issue. I do long swims and it hurts my head. I will try loosening it but am also looking for stick on foam pads to put on it to make it more comfortable. Will post if I find any. |
Question: | How soft is the mouth piece where one bites. Have a crown on my 3rd tooth back from the front. My Sherwood (for scuba) has caused crown come out |
Answer: | it's pretty soft and shouldnt be a problem...you dont have to bite down that much anyway, it's a good snorkel |
Question: | Though it's not the recommended technique, can you also exhale through snorkel every breath, instead of out nose? Are there any negative effects |
Answer: | there is actually a benefit and drawback to both techniques. People who train hard and competitively want to REDUCE the amount of oxygen they are getting with snorkel since it simulated high altitude trianing and also if you train the point where you can swim hours you can get a better workout in a shorter period of time with less oxygen. those people want to be exhaling though the snorkel since the air they ten inhale though the snorkel has less oxygen and more co2 since part of the air they inhale is their previously exhaled air. BUT if you are just starting training and are not at peak cardovascular capabilities, you would want to exhale your lower 02 higher CO2 air out of your nose, so you your snorkel is always full of fresher higher 02 air for you to breath in. Do not worry about a nose clip, after about ten minutes of breathing where you are intentional and conscious of not breathing in by your nose most people will be ok. as far as purge valves, with no purge valve you do need to breath out your mouth, forcefully each time to keep the snorkel clear. |
Question: | Whats the difference between swimmer's snorkel vs glide snorkel |
Answer: | I have both and prefer the swimmer's snorkel with the valve. I have had to replace the valve but it helps with breathing rhythm. Love this product! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this kind of snorkel require a swim cap in order to use the strap or can it go on over hair |
Answer: | No, this kind of snorkel doesn't require a swim cap in order to use the strap. In that regard it doesn't differ from swim goggles or snorkeling mask. |
Question: | What is the difference between the glide & other Finis swimmer snorkel |
Answer: | The Glide doesn't have the one way valve close to mouth piece, the swimmer snorkel has it. The valve is supposed to make easier to expel water/air from the snorkel tube. I have the glide, like it, and have not had trouble clearing the tube while swimming. I've heard that the valves are just one more piece that can malfunction, so I stayed away from the swimmer snorkel. |
Question: | Is there any difference between this one and the yellow Finis snorkel |
Answer: | Glide snorkel does not have a purge valve while Original Swimmer's Snorkel does. #FINIS |
Question: | What happens when you go in too deep. Does it allow water in |
Answer: | No there is a flap on top that does not allow water in. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Should I buy the junior size or regular size for 10 years old |
Answer: | I bought the Original (not the junior) and I think it would fit a 10 years old, it is very adjustable. I love it, I always struggle with my breath while swimming, with this snorkel I really enjoy swimming for longer time not being concerned about my breathing and helps me improve my technique. When I see the pictures of the Junior it seems the model is different but I see adults wearing it too |
Question: | How is it braced against forehead |
Answer: | The air tube is attached through a black rubber clasp that rests on your forehead. It's very comfortable and you can easily adjust the soft rubber straps around your head by gently pulling them. |
Question: | Does anyone know is the mouth piece on the "Junior" sized snorkel is smaller than the one on the regular or adult size |
Answer: | The mouthpiece seems the same on the two sizes I have, so assuming they haven't changed the design since about 5 years ago when I got my son the junior one, the only difference I notice is the tube is shorter. When I borrow my son's I get water in it because it doesn't stick up as high out of the water. |
Question: | Is there a difference between youth and junior sizes |
Answer: | Jr size is shorter in length. But, I think, same in diameter. I think the dimensions are noted in the description. |

User questions & answers
Question: | It comes whith the head strap |
Answer: | I have not tried the snorkel with that type of swim mask but anticipate you would not run into problems using the snorkel with a mask that covers your nose as well. |
Question: | will a mask that covers your nose fit with this training snorkel |
Answer: | I'm average 6ft man and it fits nicely in my mouth. The teeth grip is comfortable. No problems with breast or free strokes. |
Question: | About how big is the mouthpiece and how is it ergonomically designed? How comfortable do your teeth fit around the bite tabs? Does it have a bridge that fits behind your top teeth toward the roof of your mouth like some other snorkels do |
Answer: | The mouth piece and purge valve come off tube in one piece. |
Question: | Can we detach the purge valve |
Answer: | They run about 1/2 size small. They are not a good fit compared to others. Tight across top od foot. Wouldnt buy them again. |

User questions & answers
Question: | how do you recommend cleaning and sanitizing the snorkel |
Answer: | The Original Swimmer's Snorkel, with the head bracket removed, can be placed in the top rack of your dishwasher for cleaning. #FINIS |
Question: | Can you do flip turns with this snorkel |
Answer: | Good morning Yes! The center mount and streamlined shape of this snorkel makes it perfect for flip turns. |
Question: | What's a snorkel purge valve |
Answer: | For one reason or another, you’re probably going to get water in your snorkel during use. The purge valve works one-way, so firmly exhaling should easily clear any water. |
Question: | Would this fit a 10-year old girl? Or, do you recommend the JR size instead |
Answer: | Yes I think this snorkel would fit a 10 year old girl. I have a small face, I wear junior size goggles. The snorkel has an adjustable strap that can adjust to smaller than I need. The nice thing about this snorkel is the bottom valve for air expulsion. I also recommend purchasing a nose clip to use while wearing the snorkel, at least while getting used to using this in team practice. |

Product description
In 1995, FINIS created the first center-mount snorkel for the competitive swim market. Since then, snorkels have become a staple product in pools around the world. Their widespread use helped identify two common complaints: head brackets HURT (often leaving a bump on your head), and the earthquake experience you get off every wall is enough to drive you crazy. Seeing the market need, we invented a solution to these problems with the Stability Snorkel Series. The first of its kind, these bracketless snorkels are so comfortable and stable that you will forget you are wearing one. The Speed Snorkel is designed specifically for competitive swimmers who train at high speeds. The tube curves closely around your head to support an elevated body position while sprinting. Seeing the market need, we invented a solution to these problems: the Stability Snorkel Series.
- NO HEAD BRACKET: The most comfortable and stable snorkel on the market; This snorkel features a cushioned resting spot that fits the natural curve of your forehead (patent pending)
- COMPETITIVE SWIM TRAINING: Made specifically for swimming at high speeds with an elevated body position in the water
- ADJUSTABLE SNORKEL TUBE: The tube offers five different length settings for a customized fit
- SILICONE MOUTHPIECE: You can pivot the mouthpiece to the side when you're not swimming (patent pending)
- SPEED SNORKEL: Low-drag tube curves closely around your head and is designed to split the water as you swim
User questions & answers
Question: | Is this snorkel suitable for someone who swims laps for fitness? This one looks more comfortable than the original |
Answer: | Yes, I would very much recommene this for someone who swims laps for fitness. I swim intervalls (200 m sets) for 2000 meters, this snorkel is wonderful to use for that. I love that it is comfortable, you don’t get a headache from wearing the strap and its very easy to blow out any water that comes in when you do flip turns. I also like that its light and after a while you forget you are wearing a snorkel. It is perfect for intervalls as it feels a little more narrow/ slim than the other Finis snorkels so you get a very good exercise for your lungs. But if I do a long distance 1000-2000 meters (without any stops) I want to use my Finis Glide Snorkel or my Michael Phelps snorkel as they are a little bit wider and allowe more air to come in when you breathe. But on a whole, this is definetely the best snorkel and most comfortable I have ever used. It is light as well, doesnt take up too much space in your swim bag. |
Question: | Will this work for stationery swimming |
Answer: | Yes this would be fin to use while tethered swimming or swimming in a pool with current. #FINIS |
Question: | Why no purge valve |
Answer: | FINIS Original Swimmer's Snorkel does have a purge valve if that is what you are needing. #FINIS |
Question: | Can it be used in the ocean without water going through the top |
Answer: | Hi, yes the snorkel can be used in the Ocean. However, with any snorkel water can potentially get in from the top and require you to clear the water by blowing the water out. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I notice water in 15-20 yards. Very annoying. Is it defective? Think it comes inbetween the fit of clear mouthpiece and yellow snorkel body |
Answer: | I have been using Finis Freestyle snorkels for over 3 years. First unit after 2 years of severe use developed a microscopic seam tear on the yellow tube and leaked as you describe it took me a while to figure it out. To detect air leak plug top of yellow tube then holding entire unit under water in a tub blow air into the mouthpiece and look for bubbles. |
Question: | I have to buy a new swim snorkel every time I take it apart to clean because it apparently breaks the seal. Any suggestions for cleaning |
Answer: | Hi Jane, I use my snorkel regularly and have never taken it apart for cleaning purposes. Gently submerge your snorkel in a bucket of room temperature water and dish washing liquid ... Clean, rinse well under a tap and let it dry. If it gets too cruddy, buy a new one. I've used mine regularly for 3 years now. Still good as new. |
Question: | Im not sure about the picture. Does the snorkel fasten to your head or do you have to use it with a mask |
Answer: | The snorkel fastens to your head, positioned in the centerline, and can be used either with a mask or with goggles. My preference is a mask since I can never get goggles to seal comfortably. It does mean, however, that I have a profusion of "indents" on my face after my mile swims. |
Question: | What is difference between this freestyle finis snorkel and the finis swim snorkel? Does the freestyle snorkel have a bypass valve |
Answer: | The frestyle snorkle does not have a bypass valve; a ball cock tip to prevent water entry when the head position goes bad used to be available for way too money but is not listed now as an acessory. When I'm not careful I take in way too much water. I like that it is a front snorkle. Knowing what I know now I'd choose the swim snorkle instead. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Anyone here can tell me how this add on works on flip turns? It protects from the water? Do we still have to blow air strongly get the water out |
Answer: | Yes you should to blow air strongly to get the water out. However, I advise you to do the regular turn instead. Yes you will lose some speed but you will keep some energy. |
Question: | Fit any brand of snorkel |
Answer: | This dry top is designed to fit the Finis Swimmers snorkel only. I returned the product because it restricted the air flow so much I could not breath with it in my snorkel. |
Question: | Is this compatible with finis freestyle snorkel |
Answer: | Yes, it will fit, however, it makes it very difficult to breath. I took mine off. I do not recommend it.. |
Question: | The dry top doesn't fit my snorkel. I used it for the first time in the pool today & when I flipped, it came off. Anyone else had this happen |
Answer: | It sounds like you didn't have it "seated" all the way in. Look at the overlap in the picture. You have to put the snorkel in hot water for a few minutes to get them to slide together or apart. At the moment I have one that is actually stuck together that I've given up on trying to separate for the time being. In any case the extra labor on your lungs feels weird & tiring even if you are extremely "fit" (I can swim over 19 miles in 9 hours in a pool). I still would not recommend it to anyone even in rough seas, you are better off just blowing hard once in awhile to clear or plugging the top & blowing the water out of the purge valve once in awhile to clear. |
