I bought this because it was packable and could be thrown in a backpack when not in use. I purchased this for an Alaskan cruise since the weather can be unpredictable. I was able to layer it over a thick, long sleeve cotton shirt & a lightweight thin down jacket. It held up to a little light rain and gave me an extra layer of wind breaking during a whale excursion. I'm not sure how it would hold up in a down pour as we had wonderful weather while we were there. Only a few times did it lightly rain, and this jacket kept me dry.

I ordered this jacket for an upcoming hiking trip. I don’t plan to use it often, so I like that it was affordable. I also like that it fits into a little bag and the blue color is attractive. I’m mainly writing this review to help others with fit, because I found some of the answers and reviews to be conflicting. I am 5’6”, 145 lbs, with athletic build. Bust maybe 36” and hips maybe 39”. This jacket fits loosely as it should. The sleeves do start to get short when I raise my arms but it’s not a big deal and my arms are kind of long anyway. I’m glad I got this size.

Answer:	I purchased this as a gift for someone else but I think it would do well as a waterproof outer shell for skiing if they wear several layers underneath. It has a thin, soft, inner lining that didn't seem like that alone would keep you warm enough for skiing.

Answer:	Yes the entire jacket is waterproof. The hood has strings in it that can keep your hood in place so your hair will stay dry. The jacket has a zipper and velcro on top of that. If you keep your jacket open and it's raining, you will probably get slightly wet. But if you zip it up, use the velcro, and pull in the strings for the hood, you will stay dry!

Every part of this jacket is well-designed, such as the velcro fitted cuffs (no alterations needed). Above all, the color choices are beautiful; the jacket is super comfortable and the price for such quality is reasonable. I bought four--couldn't resist the colors and the flattering fit. ( BTW, I was glad to have this jacket during the rainy weather that followed the recent hurricane. I wore it to fill the birdfeeders out back. All I had to do when I got back to the porch, was to shake my jacket a few times, and most of the water on my jacket was gone. I stayed completely dry!)
