12 best bike co2 pump systems
Bike CO2 pump systems are essential tools for cyclists looking for a quick and convenient way to inflate their bicycle tires while on the go. These systems use compressed carbon dioxide (CO2) cartridges to provide rapid inflation, making them a popular choice for cyclists who value efficiency. Here's what you need to know about bike CO2 pump systems:
Components:
- CO2 Cartridges: These small, threaded cartridges contain compressed CO2 gas. They come in various sizes, typically ranging from 12g to 25g, and can be used to inflate both road and mountain bike tires.
- Inflator Head: The inflator head is a device that attaches to the CO2 cartridge and interfaces with the valve on your bike's tire tube. It allows you to control the flow of CO2 into the tire.
- Valve Compatibility: Ensure that the inflator head is compatible with the type of valve on your bike tubes. Most models are compatible with both Presta and Schrader valves.
Inflation Process:
- To use a CO2 pump system, you typically follow these steps:
- Remove the cap from the CO2 cartridge and thread it onto the inflator head.
- Attach the inflator head to the valve on your bike tube.
- Release the CO2 gas into the tire by turning or pressing the inflator head as instructed by the manufacturer.
- Monitor the tire's inflation, and stop when it reaches the desired pressure.
- CO2 pump systems provide rapid inflation, making them ideal for quick tire fixes during rides or races.
Portability: CO2 pump systems are compact and lightweight, making them easy to carry in a bike saddlebag or jersey pocket. They are a popular choice among road cyclists and mountain bikers who need to minimize the weight they carry.
Emergency Use: CO2 pumps are particularly useful for repairing flats on the road or trail when time is of the essence. They provide a fast solution to get back on the bike quickly.
Cartridge Management: Cyclists should carry spare CO2 cartridges in case of multiple flats or when helping fellow riders. It's essential to dispose of used cartridges responsibly, as they are not reusable.
Cost: While CO2 cartridges and inflator heads are relatively affordable, the ongoing cost of purchasing cartridges can add up over time. Some cyclists use CO2 pumps for emergencies and traditional hand pumps for routine maintenance to save on cartridge costs.
Temperature Sensitivity: CO2 inflation can be sensitive to temperature fluctuations. In very cold conditions, the gas may not expand as efficiently, affecting tire pressure. Be aware of this when riding in extreme weather.
Safety: When using CO2 pump systems, take care not to overinflate the tire, as this can lead to blowouts. Always check the recommended tire pressure, which is usually indicated on the sidewall of the tire.
Bike CO2 pump systems offer a convenient and efficient way to inflate tires during rides, ensuring that cyclists can quickly address flat tires and get back on the road or trail. However, it's essential to be familiar with the equipment and follow proper procedures to ensure safe and effective inflation. Additionally, carrying spare cartridges is advisable for longer rides or group cycling outings.
Below you can find our editor's choice of the best bike co2 pump systems on the market- Safe & Secure Connection with No Leaks – Inflator head designed for any size of 'threaded' CO2 cartridges (12g, 16g, 20g & 25g). Rubber EVA Foam sleeve (for 16g cartridges only) included - no frozen fingers when operating. Detailed instructions included. Important Note: Not compatible with valve extenders. For Presta valves with removable cores, extra care should be taken to tightly screw the core into the valve stem. No CO2 cartridges included, CO2 cartridges sold separately.
- Save Money in The Long Term, Invest in The Best - Why spend money on a cheaper CO2 inflator which will inevitably fail when you need it the most! This CO2 inflator is made from superior quality CNC machined aluminum alloy with durable and precise parts, which is Built To Last, so you can have a safe & enjoyable ride. Important: For safety reasons - do not screw in and store a CO2 cartridge into the inflator head until needed for operation. Care & respect should be taken when using CO2 gas.
- Pro Quality – We are so confident about the quality of our products that if you have any product issues, we’re very happy to either provide a Refund or a Replacement! We recommend only using premium quality threaded CO2 cartridges for 'best performance', such as PRO BIKE TOOL’s threaded 16g CO2 cartridges. Note: Using low quality CO2 cartridges with potentially poor quality threads and seals can potentially damage the CO2 inflator head and therefore ‘fail’ when most needed!
User questions & answers
Question: | Is it possible to use multiple cartridges without removing it from the presta valve? In other words- screw in a 16g cartridge to the inflator, then scr |
Answer: | Yes, you simply need to turn the CO2 valve off, swap threaded CO2 cartridge, and then turn the CO2 valve back on. |
Question: | How many co2 cartridges does it take to fill a 26” x 4.6” fat tire to 8-10 psi |
Answer: | Hi there Many thanks for your question. For a 'fat tire', I'd suggest using a 25g threaded CO2 cartridge which will deliver about 7.5 psi, alternatively, you could use two threaded 20g cartridges, one 20g cartridge will deliver 5 psi for a fat tire. Please note the inflator head is universal fit so it will work with any standard size threaded CO2 cartridge (12, 16, 20 & 25g), however, the foam sleeve only fits a 16g cartridge. I hope this helps. Kind regards Chris PRO Bike Tool |
Question: | does it work with schrader |
Answer: | Thanks for the question. Yes, the twin valve head threads onto either Presta & Schrader valves with no valve head switching needed. Please let me know in case you would like further details. PRO BIKE TOOL |
Question: | How many 16g to fill a 27.5x2.25 tire to 50psi |
Answer: | Hi BrianMany thanks for your question - one 16g cartridge will deliver 22 psi for a 27.5x2.25 tire, you'll therefore need 3. Alternatively you can use a larger size CO2 cartridge as the inflator head is universal fit, although the foam sleeve is just designed for 16g. For a 27.5x2.25 tire, a 20g cartridge will deliver 26 psi and a 25g cartridge -->32 psi. I hope this info helps.Kind regardsChrisPro Bike Tool |

MINI BIKE PUMP OR CO2 INFLATOR?
Here's a suggestion of when either tool is most suitable:
CO2 Inflator: for a race, group ride, gran frondo or timed event.
Bike Pump: for commuting, bike packing, touring or leisure riding.
For the ultimate 'fail-safe' solution, how about doing the same as us at PRO BIKE TOOL HQ, we carry BOTH. We mount one of our mini pumps on a bike frame and carry a CO2 inflator with a couple of cartridges in a saddle bag or cycling jersey. We then know we're covered for any eventually, especially for those rides with punctures that tend to come in twos or threes...you know the ones!
BEAUTIFUL DESIGN, COMPACT & PORTABLE
Our compact & portable CO2 inflator is a 'design masterpiece' that efficiently & reliably delivers 'fast inflation' when you need it the most, so you can get back quickly to the 'joy of your ride'.
Our unique lever design which we pioneered, allows the careful regulation of the gas flow. Most CO2 inflators simply dispel all the gas from the CO2 cartridge in one go, which can be dangerous and lead to over-inflated tires. We always recommend 'slowly' releasing the gas into a tire to control potential freezing. Care & respect should always been taken when operating a CO2 inflator due to the high pressure of the CO2 gas.
To understand how to use our CO2 inflators please check out our 'How to' and 'FAQ' videos in the 'video shorts' section.
PRESTA & SCHRADER COMPATIBLE
Designed to work with threaded Presta & Schrader tire valve types. Our inflator head uses a clever ‘universal’ head design, which requires no additional attachment. The force of the gas expelled from the inflator head forces the tire valve open.
For Presta valves with removable cores, extra care should be taken to tightly screw the core into the valve stem so it’s nice and 'snug' - you can either use pliers or a valve core tool to tighten the core. This process is the same when using this type of valve with any type of bike pump or CO2 inflator. Presta valves with 'removable cores' are primarily designed if you use valve extenders or use a tire sealant such as 'slime’. The CO2 inflator is not compatible with valve extenders.
LASTING INFLATION OR QUICK FIX?
One important thing to remember with a CO2 inflator is that it’s only a get-home remedy for a puncture. As CO2 gas dissipates through an inner tube over time, you need to re-inflate your tire with air from a pump when you’re back home. As such if you’re touring or bike packing, one of our mini bike pumps is the optimal choice.
For information on what tire pressure can be achieved dependent on your tire size and the size of CO2 cartridge which you're using, please head over to PRO BIKE TOOL's inflation chart which you'll see on our range of CO2 cartridges. Please note CO2 cartridges are not included with the CO2 inflator and need to be purchased separately.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can air be released from the cartridge if pump is not placed on inflator? We are trying to expel CO2 into a bottle not a tire for science experiment |
Answer: | Hi there Many thanks for your question. The inflator will expel CO2 gas when turning the lever to open, it does not need to be connected to a bike tire valve. I hope this helps. Kind regards Chris PRO BIKE TOOL |
Question: | Will this thing work with 20g cans? There is conflicting information in the question and answer section here |
Answer: | Hi DavidMany thanks for your question. The X-Small CO2 Inflator Head will fit a threaded 20g CO2 cartridge, although the rubber foam sleeve that it comes with will only fit 16g CO2 cartridges. The Small CO2 inflator with the metal canister can only fit either a 12g or 16g in the metal canister.Hope this helps, if you have any other questions please feel free to message us via the Amazon Pro Bike Tool buyer/seller message serviceKind regardsMikePro Bike Tool |
Question: | Does it work with co2 cartridge without threads |
Answer: | No, threaded cartridge only. 12g or 16g. Highly recommended the 16g size. |
Question: | What is the advantage of having the canister compared to the one without |
Answer: | The canister stores the C02 bottle until one needs it. Very convenient |

User questions & answers
Question: | will this retain C02 on a partial fill so that you could use it another day |
Answer: | That would depend on how far down the road "another day" is. You be the guinea pig and give us an up-date in a week/month/year. Lol I've worked with valves and seals/O-rings all my life and even if the manufacture said that it does I wouldn't trust it. Given the limited space we have to carry things on our bikes and the minimal cost of CO-2 (16 gram for about $1.50) I want to be sure the ones I carry are full. I average almost 2,000 miles a year between my 3 bikes,,, I hate flats,,,, my solution (3 years ago) was to buy Hi-End flat resistant tires and I haven't had to fix a flat (away from the house) since,,,, I did use my Brisk More once in the garage just to make sure it works, it's kind of spendy, but it works great and is a real space saver,,, carry it in a zip-lock bag to keep dust out of the internals. |
Question: | Can it fill a co2 container for a bb gun |
Answer: | No it uses a co2 from a B.B. gun |
Question: | First time use on a presta valve. attempted to inflate did not get a tight seal and air escaped causing under inflation. what did i do wrong |
Answer: | not sure if you insert it all the way to prevent air from leaking while inflating |
Question: | Can this be used for a motorcycle tire |
Answer: | Our CO2 inflator fits both Presta & Schrader valve. As long your motorcycle tire's valve is Presta or Schrader, our inflator will be used for it. We hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | If i were out on a trail, what size of co2 cartridge should i take to have enough pressure to reseat a tubeless mtb tire |
Answer: | Not sure but had to use it one time with a 16g catridge after losing quite a bit of air when my bead broke but reseated and it still had a good amount left in the tank. I would think a 16g works but couldn’t tell you for sure. |
Question: | Can this be use for dirt bikes |
Answer: | No, only bicycles. |
Question: | I received my tool. There are 2 small rubber grommets in the package. One black and one green. What are they for |
Answer: | So they are extra o rings for the co2 screw on part in case after the one that is on it usually green or black go bad from just regular use every 2 years tou can replace them or if you take off the co2 even thought it still has some in it it will send the o ring flying luckily i had extras just remember once you use it and have co2 left in the canister its a 1time use and if you do what i did it could go flying and be dangerous be careful !! |
Question: | I received my tool. I do not see anything in the part that screws onto the valve that will depress the pin in the Schraeder valve, how does it work |
Answer: | Once you screw it on, and put in the Co2 cartridge it will automatically let the air out .. |

- YOU’RE STANDING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD - Valuable cycling time is being used up as you start to pump your tire. You might need 500 strokes of a conventional pump to get a reasonable tire pressure. At 200 you feel like your arm is about to drop off. You start to wonder if a gym membership or one arm push ups would have helped. There is a much easier way.
- SUPER EASY and FAST to USE - With the Ezi Bike Pump you can Pump Up Your Tire in Under 12 Seconds with the squeeze of a trigger. So effortless! The quick release lever allows for fast pump removal from the tire valve. This reduces the chance of any air escaping. Fits Presta and Schrader Valves. The built-in trigger lock helps prevent unintentional release of the Co2. Bike mounting bracket also included.
- RELIABLE - Incredibly reliable! The base model has been tested for over 12 years. It’s reassuring to know that you have invested in a PREMIUM pump of DURABLE construction that doesn’t require replacement parts. The Ezi Bike Pump is also backed by a Lifetime Refund or Replacement Guarantee.
- SMALL SIZE and LIGHT WEIGHT - At 5.7 inches and 5.12 oz you’ll hardly notice it’s in your pocket. Carry as a ONE PIECE unit with the cartridge.
- CO2 CARTRIDGE INCLUDED - Comes with your first 16 gram CO2 cartridge already stored in the pump so you’re ready to go straight from the box. Takes 16 gram THREADED or UNTHREADED cartridges. Note: The Trigger Lock is a unique feature. The trigger will only work, allowing the Co2 to come out, when the Trigger Lock is off. To unlock, slide and click the lock button to the upper position. There is also a graphic to reference in the enclosed instruction sheet. Questions welcomed and safe riding :)
User questions & answers
Question: | Is this item comes with mounting bracket |
Answer: | Hi Salvador. Thanks for your question. Yes, the Ezi Bike Pump comes with a mounting bracket. If you have a look in the Reviews, you'll see a couple of photos where customers have mounted the pump on their bikes. I find the Ezi Bike Pump is also small and light enough to carry in a bike jersey pocket. Have a great day and safe riding! Steve - Ezi Bike |
Question: | Will this work with valve extenders? I use 88 mm deep section wheels that require valve extenders on my triathlon bike...will this work |
Answer: | Hi there. I can't say for certain. My experience: years ago when I was racing TT's I had a set of 50mm with extenders. With the presta valve lock nut left undone and the valve extenders tight (so no air leaks), I could get the Ezi Bike Pump to work. Note, if you're running higher tire pressures (I was running tubs), the max you'll get out of the EBP is 120psi. All the best for your next tri and safe riding! Steve - Ezi Bike |
Question: | How many cartridges to fill a 26” mountain bike tire |
Answer: | Hi Ed. Thanks for your question. I find one 16g cartridge is sufficient to fill a 26" tire. Depending on tire width, I get about 40psi. Plenty to ride on. Have a wonderful day and safe riding! Steve - Ezi Bike |
Question: | Where is this item made; ie, country of origin |
Answer: | Hi RS. Thanks for your contact. The country of origin is Taiwan. It was first designed in 2006. I bought what is now the Ezi Bike Pump back around 2008. My original purchase is going strong and I still use today. Have a great day and safe riding! Steve |

A DECADE OF PROVEN DURABILITY
Designed in 2006, the first version entered production in 2007. I bought what is now the Ezi Bike Pump back in 2008. Back then the design had a dual port head (one port for presta valves and the other for schrader).
See photo above. Yes, this one still works!
The pump saw a modification to the trigger unit, then in 2015 the pump head was re-designed to the single port. This meant the Ezi Bike Pump was now shorter and lighter. This single port was now capable of accepting both valve types without any adapter or conversion.
It’s a Co2 pump that works and has proven to last for years. We also offer Lifetime Replacement or Refund.
IS A CO2 TIRE INFLATOR THE ONLY BIKE PUMP YOU'LL NEED?
It's hard to beat the size, convenience and inflation speed of a Co2 Tire Pump.
However, a Co2 Tire Pump is only as good as your carried supply of cartridges. I live and ride in an area where I rarely get flats and when I do have a flat, it’s a one-off and I’m usually not far from home.
Now, if I’m going to cross a mountain range or engage in some long distance urban adventure, I will take my Ezi Bike Pump (and two cartridges) and I’ll also take a conventional dual-action hand pump. This gives me that failsafe backup. Fortunately, I’ve not had to resort to the hand pump yet.
REMEMBER TO RE-PUMP THAT TIRE!
You’ve used your Ezi Bike Pump and you’re good for a whole day’s ride.
Then, in the morning you return to your bike and notice that the tire is soft even though you know you’ve sorted the flat.
Here’s the explanation without getting too technical about it. The properties of Co2 react differently with rubber than straight air does. Simply, Co2 can escape through the rubber tube and tire sidewalls quicker than air. Fortunately, this happens really slowly.
So remember to deflate your tire and use a track pump to re-inflate. A small hand pump will also do the job (serious work-out included).
WILL ONE 16G CARTRIDGE BE ENOUGH TO PUMP MY TIRE?
Your Ezi Bike Pump has been designed to take size 16 gram cartridges only.
This gives you the smallest size and lightest pump that will offer the widest range of tire pressures. Here are the pressures I can get with one 16 gram cartridge.
Tire Size & Approx. Pressure
Road 700C - 110/120 psi
MTB 29” - 20 psi
MTB 26” - 40 psi
BMX 20” - 30 psi
Plenty enough pressure to ride on and get you home.
How about an Ezi Bike Pump as a Gift?
A neatly boxed and practical gift for the keen cyclist. You'll be remembered to the recipient next time they have to deal with that inconvenient puncture. Chances are they won't have this one in their tool kit.
You've also given a gift that will last for years!
Note: EZI BIKE recommends that you do not buy this product in USED condition.

Why it is smart to keep an CO2 inflator on hand?
If you are bicyclists and spend any significant amount of time on your bicycle, you’re going to want to keep a CO2 tire inflator on hand. These are much lighter and easier to pack into a messenger bag or backpack than a full-size pump, meaning that you’ll have more room in that bag. Many units also attach directly to your bike frame, which means that you can hit the road without any bag at all, and that's a must for those looking to work on race times or to use their bikes exclusively for exercise. CO2 inflators also have the benefit of requiring no physical exertion to refill your tire. If you’ve been riding for an extended period and you get a flat when your energy stores are waning, the experience can leave you exhausted, making it tough to manipulate a manual bike pump. A CO2 tire inflator fills up with little more than the pull of a trigger, getting you back on the road faster and with less work.

CONTROLLED INFLATION
OPEN: Slowly turn the lever counter-clockwise to release CO₂ gas, up to a 90°angle.
After filling the pressure required by the tire......
CLOSE:Turn lever back to start "OFF" position.
CO₂ EMERGENCY INFLATOR
1. Take the cylinder with the anti-freeze foam first
2. Turn the handle to the off state
3. Screw the metal needle clockwise
4. Until the metal needle punctures the cylinder
5. Then finish the rotation
Note: When the cylinder is punctured, there will be a gas that suddenly catches the sound of the valve.
Surface anodizing treatment
All aluminum alloy nozzles can withstand high pressure and will not be damaged after repeated use. Rust and freeze protection
Small and convenient, only hand grip
Mini size can be easily placed inside the bicycle tail bag or the pocket, Quickly inflate the tires while riding.
The necessity of EVA protective cover
When a rapid release of carbon dioxide gas is released, a large amount of cold air is released to cause frost. Sponge cover prevents finger frostbite.
- Inflate A Tire in Seconds – For anyone wanting to get back on their ride as quickly as possible – perfect for those emergencies that require fast tire inflation. Simple to use and store, nothing short of essential for each ride. We do not ‘label’ our CO2 cartridges unlike some other brands to ensure the CO2 cartridge does not potentially get ‘stuck’ when being inserted into a CO2 inflator insulation sleeve.
- Small & Compact – Fits conveniently in a saddle bag, jersey pocket or backpack. Weighing only 2 ounces / 58 grams each, you will barely notice you’re carrying one as you ride. One important thing to remember with a CO2 inflator is that it’s only a get-home remedy for a puncture. As CO2 gas dissipates through an inner tube over time, you need to re-inflate your tire with air from a pump when you’re back home. As such if you’re touring or bike packing, one of our mini bike pumps is a great choice.
- Compatible with All Bike Tire Co2 Inflators with a ‘threaded’ connection. Designed specifically for all of PRO BIKE TOOL ‘high performance’ CO2 inflators, plus other leading brands with a ‘threaded connection’. Works with all inflators which have a 3/8”-24 TPI thread. CO2 canisters are recyclable and one-time use only.
- Perfect for Road And Mountain Bike Tires – 16 gram cartridge inflates a road tire to 100 psi and a MTB tire to approx. 40psi. Note: CO2 gas is ‘not’ food grade. As this cartridge dispenses its air, it rapidly cools and becomes COLD to the touch; care should be taken, protect your hands when dispensing air. Important: For safety reasons - do not screw in and store a CO2 cartridge into an inflator head until needed for operation. Care & respect should be taken when using CO2 gas.
- Pro Quality – If you are after great quality and reliable CO2 canisters at an even better price, see what the Pro Bike Tool CO2 canisters can do for you. We are very proud of our superior quality CO2 cartridges which have been manufactured to the highest standards. Low quality CO2 cartridges are known to potentially have inconsistent quality threads and seals which can damage CO2 inflator heads and therefore ‘fail’ when most needed!
