The other valve, circle shaped, needs opened until it’s about the size of a quarter, it has a small pillow shape around it. With that valve open press down on the pillow with your feet or hands. You will hear the air entering the mattress on the release of the smooshy pillow. It takes awhile. I found it most comfortable to sit in a chair and use my feet to inflate it. If it looses air make sure the 2 valves are closed. Hope this helps
