With regards to the velcro straps, their purpose is to tie up the excess nylon strap that hangs down past the buckle once you have sized the harness. You roll up the excess nylon strap and then roll the velcro around it so that it does not hang down. I did see one reviewer who said that he just cut off the excess nylon and then there was no need for the velcro either. That's a good idea but if your dog ever gets fatter or you want to use the harness on a bigger dog then the strap will be to short to expand the unit to fit the larger dog. |

It's more splash resistant. I wouldn't let the dog go in a body of water, but it surely can handle drizzle and light rain. Hope this helps! |
