User questions & answers
Question: | What blade angle does it come with? Fine edge implies 20 degrees but I might be wrong |
Answer: | Typically "Fine Edge" actually refers to a knife with no serrations. Combo Edge would imply a portion of the cutting edge that has serrations, more often found near the handle, but that is not always the case. These knives are sharpened by hand, one at a time on a belt so the edge may vary from one piece to another. The angle is typically 40-50 degrees inclusive, meaning 20-25 degrees per side. That gives you a good balance of cutting performance while avoiding the edge from chipping or rolling, blade hardness notwithstanding. The lower the angle the lower the physical toughness of the cutting edge, may or may not be applicable to your needs. |

Folding Knife, Paraframe I, Liner Lock , Number of Blades 1, Blade Edge Fine, Blade Type Drop Point , Blade Length 3 In., Length Open 7 In., Closed Length 4-7/64 In., Blade Material Stainless Steel, Handle Material Stainless Steel, Handle Color Gray, One-Hand Operation No, Locking Blade Yes, Belt Clip Yes, Sheath N/A, Frame Lock Handle Design and Titanium Nitrade Coated Blade, Includes Lightweight Open Stainless Steel Handles, Application For Cutting
From the Manufacturer
If Gerber had settled for making just one version of the Paraframe knife, people might have been content. Because this reputable example of frame lock design caught on admirably among knife lovers...making the Gerber Paraframe a mainstay of the industry. But we figured there's no merit in being stingy, so we worked up a total of eight versions. And the people were pleased. There is a simplicity to this knife that relates as much to function as it does to form. It's a breeze to open. The clip point blade configuration is ideal for cutting in close quarters. Openness rules the day where the handle is concerned—there's more air than metal—so it's quite lightweight and quite easy to keep clean. Clip a Paraframe into your pocket, and you're fully equipped to take care of business. Your only challenge is figuring out which one...
- Frame lock handle design
- Lightweight open stainless steel handles
- Sturdy Pocket Clip
- Overall Length: 7.01
- Length Closed: 4.11
User questions & answers
Question: | Does it have dual thumb studs |
Answer: | Yes! It has thumb studs on both sides of the knife. |
Question: | What is the blade length? This is a basic knife specification and it's missing from the description. I assume it's 3 inches |
Answer: | Actual cutting edge is 3 inches. |
Question: | Mine is very hard to close, I have to pry the frame lock open. Is the a way to loosen this up? I carry a wood wedge with me |
Answer: | Mine is easy to one-hand open. Could be too tight (just loosen) or it could be manufacture issue. If it's new, get it replaced. If not new, try loosening it. Peace |
Question: | Is it a good size |
Answer: | It's a good sized knife fits in pockets well |

From the Manufacturer
This knife is as adaptable as the personnel who carry it. Use it to cut through the skin of a fuselage. Or sever a seat belt. Or egress through the Plexiglas of a chopper. Plus, the LMF II does a slick job cutting firewood and building shelter. The over-molded handle successfully limits blistering. There is complete separation between the tang and butt cap, so the knife absorbs the shocks from hammering and prevents the shocks of electricity. Smartly situated grooves and lashing holes let the LMF II convert to a spear. The low-profile sheath facilitates movement, limits noise, works for parachuting, and attaches to a belt or Molle vest. The patented, integrated sharpener means edge retention in the field.
- Survival knife developed to free an aircrew from a downed aircraft
- Purposeful break between the tang and the butt cap, providing insulated protection against stray wires and absorbing any shock from hammering
- MOLLE compatible sheath with built-in sharpener
- Overall Length: 10.59"
- Proudly made in the USA

User questions & answers
Question: | What type of knife is it? An automatic one |
Answer: | No, automatic type knifes that shoot straight out are illegal in most states but not all! Only law enforcement can own them now! Check with your states statue. |
Question: | What am I missing? Is there any difference between this model and 31-001098? Wrong picture? Different steel |
Answer: | Honestly, I think it's the same knife from different sellers. The picture looks the exact same. In any case, it's a pretty good knife, a little tight to open, but that's better than too loose. I don't think Gerber offers the same style knife in different steel qualities. I bought the one certified by Amazon just in case it was wrong and I had to return it. That's usually the safest bet. Good luck! |
Question: | will this pierce truck tires |
Answer: | If I say "yes" are YOU going to pierce truck tires? |
Question: | This knife can be charged with both an ac and a dc power supply correct |
Answer: | Yes, you can charge this knife using AC or DC current separately or together! However, I prefer to charge it with a USB charger. There's no better electrified knife on the market! P.S. @Heather E: we all know this is a knife (shhh; wink, wink).... |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use other sheaths with the ankle wrap |
Answer: | I don't have the ankle wrap, I bought mine a few years back.. the ghoststrike sheath is a pretty tight fit, I suppose you could as long as the screws and rivets line up (without punching holes in the wrap). I think you'll be happy with the Gerber sheath though. |
Question: | Is this knife supposed to be sharp when you get it? I tried to cut arm hair and nothing. I tried to slice through paper and it doesnt slice |
Answer: | Well in my opinion all knives should be sharp when new. I don't expect it to be a razor but it's always nice if it is. This knife that I got was dull to the point it was dangerous to use. Had to hack or dig at anything I wanted cut. Used a whet stone on it to get it where I think is accepttable. |
Question: | Will it come with both ankle wrap and belt mount |
Answer: | It comes in the belt mount . The ankle strap is included along with extra screws to mount on ankle wrap . |
Question: | Is this knife for protection, or can it actually be used to cut things (say, branches, etc. in the woods |
Answer: | They make Kaiser blades and machetes for cutting branches. A knife 10 inches in length or shorter is made for spilling guts not cutting limbs. It is not of any value if someone takes it from you and cute you up with it because you do not know what you’re doing. Hope that helps |

Renowned as a master of knives and tools, Gerber's problem-solving, life-saving products are designed with the unique needs of specific activities in mind. Today that includes much more than a blade.
From the Manufacturer
F.A.S.T. Technology, in 2005, Gerber introduced the proprietary new blade opening concept, forward action spring technology or F.A.S.T. Using one hand, the blade is opened approximately ten degrees, allowing the spring to drive the blade lightening quick the rest of the way into the open position. This exclusive mechanism was developed by acclaimed Oregon custom knife maker Butch Vallotton, whose name graces one of our lines of assisted opening knives.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it have dual thumb studs, for opening it |
Answer: | Yes. The one that I have is so stiff a mere thumb push won't suffice. |
Question: | Is there any way to buy the clip only for this knife? Because mine broke |
Answer: | Start here with Gerber warranty: http://www.gerbergear.com/Meet-Gerber/Warranty/Warranty-Information |
Question: | Does this knife have a clip on it |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Why is this logo different from the one on Gerber's website |
Answer: | I have several Gerber knives, including this one, and none have that symbol; that all have the traditional sword/shield looking symbol. Mine are great. I looked further into this and that logo is a logo that was retired in 2005. This information is posted in the about us - history page on Gerber's website. I would have confidence buying this knife, as long as you understand that it is an older make of it. |

Question: | which is a better knife, the lst or us1? only answer if you know these knives |
Answer: | LST ....easy to sharpen and fits in pant pocket well!!! This is my second one...1st one was a vendor gift for a T/A we worked together !!! Love this knife!!!👍🏼😎 |
Question: | Where is this knife made |
Answer: | Gerber's website states that their LST Knife is made in the USA. The site states that many, but not all, of their products are made in USA. |
Question: | Does this come in a Clam Package or a Box |
Answer: | This is just a guess, but I think 46009 is the 'clam', while 06009 is the box. As of this writing, the boxed version is about $5 cheaper so, unless there's some special reason you want it in the more difficult to open 46009 'clam' package, I'd get the 06009 box. |
Question: | What is the overall open length |
Answer: | Overall length of the LST is 6.1" with a blade length of 2.63" |
