User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used in cold waether |
Answer: | Depends on how cold. Butane doesn't work well below 35-40F. If you need a stove for consistent temps around freezing or below, go with a propane model. |
Question: | Can you use a cast iron skillet on this stove |
Answer: | Absolutely. Any pot or pan works fine. Actually, a cast iron skillet would work great. The stove can put out quite a bit of heat, I've used these for a stock pot. |
Question: | How do you put the butane in the stove |
Answer: | The butane fuel can only be loaded in its can. Open the fuel canister compartment cover. Remove the cap on the fuel canister. Insert the canister with the collar notch facing upward. The valve on the canister goes into a small funnel shaped fitting. There is a spring loaded latch that fits into the collar notch. Close the compartment and activate the fuel canister lock lever on the front of the stove. The stove is now ready to use. |

About Coleman More than 100 years ago, a young man with an entrepreneurial spirit and a better idea began manufacturing lanterns in Wichita, Kansas. His name was W.C. Coleman, and the company he founded would change life in America. A man plagued with such poor vision he sometimes had to ask classmates to read aloud to him, Coleman saw a brilliant light in 1900 in a drugstore window that stopped him in his tracks. He inquired about the light inside and discovered he was able to read even the small print on a medicine bottle by the illumination. The lamps had mantles, not wicks, and were fueled by gasoline under pressure instead of coal oil. Soon afterward, Coleman started a lighting service that offered a "no light, no pay" clause--a big step forward for merchants who were burned by inferior products that rarely worked--and drew substantial interest from businesses that wanted to keep their lights on after dark. In the ensuing years, Coleman expanded its product line well beyond lanterns. The company's current catalog is thick with products that make spending time outdoors a pleasure. There are coolers that keep food and drinks cold for days on end, comfortable airbeds that won't deflate during the night, a complete line of LED lights that last for years, powerful portable grills that cook with an authentic open-grill flame, and much, much more. Coleman has truly fashioned much of our outdoor camping experience, and expects to do so for generations to come.

User questions & answers
Question: | What are the dimensions of cooking surface when stove is open for cooking grill |
Answer: | about 20'' x 10'' |
Question: | Which carry case fits this stove |
Answer: | Coleman Part# 2000004431. That case will fit the stove AND can hold Two propane bottles. It's a nice case, keeps your stove looking like new plus carrying the bottles. |
Question: | What type of connector do I need for this Coleman Stove? I see many types but do not know which one to buy |
Answer: | it comes with the connector. you don't need to worry about that as long as you buy the small, green, one-use propane canisters. |
Question: | Can an adapter and propane tank be used with this burner |
Answer: | I'm not 100% sure but I think it should, provided the adapter is for this kind of Coleman propane stove. Personally, I use a refill adapter to refill my One-LB propane bottles from the 20-LB BBQ propane tank. I like the ease of the 1-LB bottles. The 20-LB tanks are too bulky for camping trips. User questions & answers
Question: | If I use the butane container and need to change to propane (due to freezing temperatures or altitude) is it safe to unscrew the propane and switch |
Answer: | Yes, Just be quick about it !! |
Question: | How big is the burner size? Can i use a 12" pan? Thanks |
Answer: | Measuring diagonally on just the grill part it's 11" and yes a 12" pan would work I have a 13" pot that I use to cook crab outside and it works perfect |
Question: | can this be used indoors |
Answer: | I have used it indoors twice and it works fine... no problems at all. Make sure to be as safe indoors as you are outdoors. |
Question: | Will this accept the weight a 20Qt stainless steel pot of water. Any thoughts on using it for a canning bath |
Answer: | I would not use anything big enough to cover the butane cover section as if that butane canister being thinner metal gets to hot it becomes a ticking time bomb. If I remember right I'm thinking they don't recommend anything over 10-11" in diameter in pots to keep from reflecting heat back down over butane cover. If using the 1 lb propane bottles probably not an issue. You could also wrap the rubber hose with some reflective aluminum foil that goes into stove. |

Answer: | Brother.... Light a match or lighter, hold it near your burner. Then, with your other hand slowly and gently turn the stove knob on. You should get a nice gentle *voosh* sound as your stove lights. No huge flames. No flare up... |
Question: | Does it run on straight propane such as the one that Coleman has in a green bottle? Is it able to |
Answer: | It doesn't run on the green Coleman fuel it runs on the smaller Coleman butane propane mix. I love the burner it puts out a strong flame heating water very fast. |

User questions & answers
Question: | do you need to buy a connecting hose as well |
Answer: | No It's not needed and no connection. Just one 8 ounce can other brand or 8.8 ounce of coleman butane and you're good to go. |
Question: | What can I place under the burner to use on my dining table |
Answer: | Camping I do not use anything and none of my plastic table tops have had any injury do to heat. Nor has the metal or wood picnic tables at campsties. I bought the flameless version last fall after seeing one at a caving convention in July last year in MT. It will allow me to have a fameless version to cook when our wild fire season in MT is demanding no flame cooking. They often allow the flameless version which by the way is not flameless just has a kind of closed cover on top like an electric burner making it appear flameless. Under the burner is a flame unlike this version and which has an open burner much like a gas range burners have. Makes all the difference when camping during wildfire season however. BY THE WAY if you buy one that does not have a wind shield make one or buy one they make all the difference in the world for fuel effeciency as well as heating up your pot. I bought my stove over 10 years ago with no wind shield and made one about 8 years ago from aluminum sheeting sold on Amazon. I cut it into tall pieces that fold up and hinged them together with metal wire coil binders and yes used the paper punch that uses those wire binders to make the holes. It worked great. And it folds up and fits right on top of stove tucked inside the plastic case that came with that stove. Bottom line most of these stoves are pretty much equal with some slight differences. Overall great. At home I find using a silicone sink mat even though it has ridges to dry dishes or use as a hot plate works extremely well to keep it from sliding. These also sold on Amazon are rated over 500 degrees and food safe silicone. Come in variety of colors but I prefer frosted or clear. I have not used the mats camping. A Silicone baking sheet my not insulate as much as you are concerned with. But like I said have never had so much heat to harm any surface including the plastic folding tables I often use when camping if there is no picnic table available. Hope these suggestions help others. |
Question: | How long will a can of butane last with this stove |
Answer: | I have not used this stove yet, but I thought I saw a canister can last up to an hour and a half or two hours depending on how high you have it. |
Question: | Can it be used inside |
Answer: | This is our second one, we use them for camping, backyard cooking, power outages, emergency kit/ travel kitchen, for many Asian table cooked foods like hotpots, shabu shabu, stir fries... I enjoy cooking on it, it sits on the glass top stove with a vent above, windows 6' and 15' away on either side, and a comfortable cooking height. The fuel cans last longer if you do not open it 100% to cook, we find open about 75-85% works fine. In about 8 years we've never had a problem, nor during indoor cooking, has the co2 monoxide detector gone off. If you use it inside, make sure you have good cross ventilation, and a working carbon monoxide detector nearby. This uses oxygen, and can be dangerous if you don't have windows sort of across from each other, open slightly (we have them open about 1 to 1.5" in winter or rain, wider in summer, and if there's no wind, we have a fan, electric or battery) blowing out the closer window. Excessive? Not if you were almost killed by co2 poisoning when the furnace repairman didn't put it back together right and we had all the co2 coming into the house. Now our all electric house has a battery co2 detector. Hope this helps for uses & sadety... |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I remove the gas cylinder before it is empty for storage |
Answer: | Absolutely, you wouldn't want to store the gas cylinder attached to burner for an extended period of time. |
Question: | How much does it weigh |
Answer: | On my kitchen scale the full gas canister weighs 30.12 oz. and the stove components weigh 24.76 oz. When weighed together as a unit I got 54.86 oz. = 3.43 pounds. |
Question: | How long does it normally last for one full propane tank? Say, if I cook for about 20 minutes every time, how many times can a propane tank be used |
Answer: | Usually a tank will last 8 hrs if you leave it at medium heat to low. Depending in the space required to heat. So if you the calculations. 20 min X 3 = 60 min 3X8=24. So about 24 times give or take a few. |
Question: | Is it sturdy enough to set a cast iron skillet ontop of and cook food without worrying about damaging the burner setup |
Answer: | Hello. I take this stove camping and canoeing all the time. I use a large, heavy, cast iron skillet with a 11" base, 12" top, 2.25" sides to do my cooking. However, to maintain a hotter oil temperature for frying fish you must cover the cast iron skillet with a lid otherwise the oil will not get hot enough to boil. I purchased a commercial aluminum lid for a stock pot to use. NOW, LISTEN CAREFULLY, the factory propane cylinder PLASTIC BASE WILL NOT WORK and IS DANGEROUS TO USE with this setup. The cast iron skillet I use is much to heavy for safe use and with boiling oil you are heading for disaster. Here is the SOLUTION for a larger, very sturdy base. Get a new or used 12" non-stick fry pan. Take the handle off (grind, bend, or unscrew). File any sharp edges. Drill a 3/8" hole in the center of the pan. Get (1) 3/8" x 1 1/2" or 2" long bolt (depending how deep the non-stick fry pan is), lock nut, 2 washers. Get about 6" of 4" diameter PVC plastic pipe. Get a 4" PVC plastic pipe end cap with a flat bottom. Press, or glue, the PVC end cap onto the 6" long PVC pipe. Drill a 3/8" hole through center. Now assemble stand: non-stick fry pan cooking side faces away or to ground. PVC pipe is now all 1 piece and rests on top of flat surface of fry pan. 3/8" bolt with washer goes inside pipe, through fry pan and is bolted with washer and lock nut making the entire unit 1 piece. DO NOT tighten the 3/8" bolt so tight that it splits the plastic PVC, just snug. The 3/8" bolt should not extend past the lip of the fry pan or it will not sit level. The 1 pound cylinder will fit inside with single burner stove attached. You have just made a much safer base for your Coleman single burner stove. "WARNING" You must still exercise EXTREME CAUTION and CAREFULNESS when cooking with this setup and especially when using HOT OIL (wear oven mitts when removing HOT skillet). You can vary the diameter of the base fry pan for sturdiness, or the PVC pipe height. The cooking surface has now been raised but as long as the ground is solid and flat, or the table sturdy enough, I have not had an issue with tipping. There is a small space between the PVC pipe and the 1 pound cylinder. You can wedge a small twigs in, or plastic, whatever works to tighten the cylinder so it does not shift around or turn while cooking. I pack the PVC and base as 1 piece but you can unbolt them if you have to make 2 smaller items. Best Regards, and Enjoy Cooking With Your Coleman. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it come with a propane adaptor? If not, what should I get? I am new to propane stoves |
Answer: | Yes, it's made to fit the small green bottles but can be adapted to be used on a 5 gallon. You will need to buy an adaptor hose to fit the stove & screw on to the 5gal bottle. That set up is great for extended camping time. |
Question: | The images show two different clasps. Does this model come with the wide or narrow one |
Answer: | We just bought this model on Amazon about 3 weeks ago. It has the larger clasp and seemed to work well. Went camping and the ignition/lighter switch was a huge help. Used it for 2 days straight and barely went through 1 small propane tank. Good luck! |
Question: | Do you have to use Colleman propane canisters |
Answer: | Any 1-pound propane canister will work, as well as hooking up a bulk propane tank via appropriate hoses. Triton is the best camp stove I've ever used. Highly recommended! |
Question: | There are 2 different clasps pictured - is the wider clasp made of metal or plastic |
Answer: | The entire stove is metal except for the nobs and the easy start button. The black clasp to lock is metal as well as all the hinges. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does anyone know if these will fit the "Max Burton" single burner stove |
Answer: | Yes, if you are referring to the camping stove. |
Question: | Hi. Are these 4oz or 8oz? How many grams? Do they have a notch around the rim to fit into the portable cook stoves? Thank you |
Answer: | 8 oz (227 grams) There is notch in the rim. We bought these to go with the portable cook stoves we gave our married children for gifts. |
Question: | Does this fit Coleman instastart stove |
Answer: | Took a quick look on the Internet to see what an Instastart stove was, and from what I saw, I can't be sure which one you are looking at. Several Coleman stoves were called Instastart. Depending on which stove you have, you may need the small green propane tanks/cylinders (approx. 16 oz) that you see more often, depending on which type of fuel the Instastart stove requires. The green propane style typically attach outside the stove. As for these canisters, which are butane, they work in the little stoves where the can is completely enclosed behind a hinged door in the stove when it operates. These canisters look a lot like a can of cooking spray. They are about 8 oz.So you'll need to determine which fuel / canister your Instastart requires. |
Question: | Can I use these cans with a Iwatani torch ( as used in torching food or use in encaustics art |
Answer: | I use it with this torch http://amzn.to/2H0i0VV Worked perfectly |

Perfect for camping, backpacking, and other outdoor occasions, this compact camp stove is designed to produce up to 7,500 total BTUs of cooking power from a single 3-inch burner, giving you the ability to prepare a wide range of hot foods at the campsite.
The Coleman 5453A700 Powerpack Single-burner Low-profile Propane Stove is pretty much as easy as it gets. The Powerpack's fully adjustable flame lets you boil water or simmer chili, while the PerfectFlow system of pressure-regulated propane provides consistent cooking performance (without flaring or flickering) by producing a steady fuel stream, even in cold weather, high altitudes, or when fuel is low.
This Coleman stove is constructed of an aluminized-steel cooktop and removable, nickel-chrome grates so you spend your time on the trail instead of on cleanup duty. The large 3.25-inch, 7,500 BTU burner is to the side of the propane cylinder in a low-profile fashion that ensures this burner will always be one of Coleman's easiest and best.

User questions & answers
Question: | can this burner be used indoors |
Answer: | I set it on top of my electric range and use it for cooking with a wok. I like gas better for the wok. Works fine, although my house is pretty drafty so I don't have to worry much about ventilation. Downside? Don't leave it setting on the electric stove and turn the electric burner on. Might do a little damage when the gas explodes! |
Question: | My reason for considering this purchase is if the stove has a low setting, low enough so oatmeal doesn't burn. Some reviewers said yes AND no |
Answer: | I cook oatmeal on this burner every morning with no additional hardware. turn it very low- as low as possible. if your pot is small, do not cover. if the pot is deep, use a cover. you can pretty much tell if it boils over that the heat is too hi and or the pot is too shallow. |
Question: | is the unit stable, get hot enough for a wok pan? flat bottomed wok |
Answer: | Yes! Very stable that's why I got mine, and is great for larger pans/pots. I'm not sure about hot enough for wok but it should as I have cooked large pots of stew. For me it's a great one burner stove. |
Question: | Does this product includes the connection to the propane tank or do I have to buy a separate hose |
Answer: | The Coleman 5453A series Propane Stove is supplied complete with the following: 5453-2351 = Grate. R430-565T = Regulator assembly. 5453-3351 = Foot Assy. 5453-1351 = Knob. Note: The Regulator Assembly is the connection to the 16.5 Coleman Propane Fuel tank. A hose would be an addition of your choice if you wanted the propane to be farther away from the stove itself. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this stove approved for indoor use |
Answer: | These stoves are typically used by Asians for indoor cooking at the dinning room table for say hot pot, shabu shabu, sukiyaki etc. |
Question: | Bit confused here, some say this comes with a storage case others say it does not. Can anyone tell me yes or no? Thank you in advance |
Answer: | I bought mine here and, yes, it did come with a storage case. The case is plastic and is handy. I don't know why Amazon does not state this in the product description but I do know they do a lot of "cut and paste" when listing products and sometimes the product source varies. In the side pictures, notice the one with the stove and the apparent box it comes in. There is a handle shown in the box view. That is the handle of the plastic carry case inside the box, so if it does not come with a carry case, you can send it back at no cost if you want to. I believe you will get a case and I know you will love this stove. I use mine for when the power goes out. Some Walmarts carry the gas cannisters and some do not. |
Question: | whats the largest diameter pan you can safely use on this without the butane cartridge getting hot and exploding? also is there a manual online anywhere |
Answer: | It's not a question of the butane cartridge getting hot. It's below and to the side of the flame. The pot support has a lip that limits the pot size to 10-3/4 inches or 27.5cm. Any pot larger than that will not be supported in a stable fashion and would be in danger of slipping and slopping out hot contents. |
Question: | How long does the butane cylinder last |
Answer: | Don't know for sure, I fried up a batch of potatoes and onions (twice) as well as some walleye fillets and chicken wings (sever batches) and there seems to be plenty of fuel left in the cannister. Bottom line..... one fuel can will go a long way. I plan to take two with me for a week of shore lunches in Canada in June and that should be more than enough. |

WHERE WE STARTED
It all began when we created the first portable, gas-powered lantern that illuminated the first evening football game west of the Mississippi. In WWII, our camping stoves transformed the way soldiers ate in the field. WHERE WE ARE TODAY
After 120 years, Coleman gear is everywhere you are: on the trail, by the lake, at the campsite, or in your own backyard. We're always around a place where there are friends, coolers, and campfires. So, grab a tent, fire up a grill, and pull up a chair. The Outside Is Calling. Answer it.
