I have used this bottle outdoors on hot days, and it keeps the water somewhat cool for a while (better than a regular plastic water bottle), but the ice does melt and the water does warm up over time. In other words, the insulation is ok, but not great.

Answer:	Yes the valves and lids fit both and are interchangeable, BUT the new straws and thus the opening where you insert the straw is fatter than the old one, so the old straws can only be used with the old valves/ new fat straws with new valves.
