User questions & answers
Question: | How necessary is the pot support for this system? That is, how ready to use is this kit providing you already have fuel |
Answer: | Looking at the product images and watching the video you'll notice the male appears to remove the lid quite easily with one hand and the assumably empty pot isn't disrupted. This would lead me to believe there is a slip flange on the lid that slides inside the mouth of the pot much like your pots at home and slips fairly easily. I hate answering questions without having purchased a product but after 4 weeks and only one weak answer I thought observation and analytical thinking might be better than nothing. Fwiw I too am in search of another pot and scrolling the questions I saw yours. I hope this helps out somehow. |
Question: | Can one cook food in this?? Could I make rice in this?? Which model is best |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Would this be large enough to cook a block of ramen in |
Answer: | Both sets include the same items: 2 pots, a frying pan, 2 strainer lids, a cutting board, a pot handle, and a waterproof stuff sack. The difference is in the size of the cookware. The large set includes 3 and 5 liter pots and a 9" frying pan. The small set includes 1.5 and 2 liter pots and an 8" frying pan. |
Question: | What is the difference between Jetboil Zip Cooking System and Jetboil Personal Cooking System |
Answer: | No. You can’t expose them to flames but you can put them on the pots when you cook. They are lids so that is their purpose. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the ring you turn to increase flame supposed to be broken? It’s split in one part. Not sure if mine was damaged on arrival or if it’s meant |
Answer: | No,return it and get a new one.because if you don’t turn it in the right way, it might force it to come off. If that happens, you have to put it back into its place |
Question: | Can other fuel cans work or does it have to be the jetboil fuel |
Answer: | Other fuel cans are fine. |
Question: | Can you use butane/propane mix instead of isobutane/propane mix? Im not going in the mountains. Kayak trip in Arkansas |
Answer: | You can use either. The difference between the butane and Isobutane is their vapor pressure point. Butane is the lowest perfoming with the lowest pressure and would not be good in a very cold environment. |
Question: | Why can’t this be delivered to me in Southern California |
Answer: | Most likely because Jetboil doesn’t want to get sued in case their product is used in the next major fire. California has become increasingly restrictive on camping stoves as of late due to to ever-increasing wild fire hazards. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the smallest pot diameter this stove will hold? I have a small pot that is only 3.5" in diameter and think it may not be stable. Thanks |
Answer: | Measuring tip to tip on the supportsame is 4 1/8 inches. I wouldn't go smaller than 3.5 but I think you're good. Make certain the stove is on a level surface. It works great. Get a small GSI coffee pot. |
Question: | How adjustable is the heat |
Answer: | Very adjustable. You can turn it up full (rocket) or turn it down for a nice simmer. |
Question: | How long does a fuel canister last with this stove? Planning a trip would like to know how many canisters it would take for a week |
Answer: | I recently took a 3 day 2 night trip with this stove and a single 110 gram canister. I Used it to make breakfast 2 cups water in a Mountain House scrambled eggs with bacon and 2 large cups of coffee. Then dinner was very similar. So I used it 4 times to boil about 4 cups of water each time. I still had enough fuel left for a couple more meals. Use a windscreen, a wide base pot like an Imusa .9 quart grease pot. I would think a single 230 to 250 gram canister would be enough. If you want to have a backup use an alcohol stove. I do regardless. |
Question: | Where is it made |
Answer: | The MSR Pocket Rocket is made in Korea. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would it work with an 8 oz Butane canister from Coleman |
Answer: | No, you need Isopro (butane/propane) mixed blend canister type fuel that screws on. The butane fuel cans that you use on lunchbox stoves do not work. |
Question: | Can I use indoors |
Answer: | It's generally a bad idea to use propane or butane stoves indoors. They often don't fully combust, so you can get unburnt fuel gas and carbon monoxide in the room. If you have very good insulation (a fume hood or a fan blowing out an open window) then it's safer. |
Question: | I'm looking at a 48oz portable tea kettle. How long would it take for this to boil 48 ounces |
Answer: | This is a small pocket sized stove. My concern would be safety of having a large vessel staying on the small stove. This stove is for heating small things like a can of soup or water for 1 - 2 people to have coffee. That said, it is a wonderful stove for small jobs. 48 ozs. will require a medium sized pot and I'd trust it on this stove only if I had my hand on the pot handle at all times to support it. I'd guess 5 - 10 mins. to bring 48 oz. to slow boil. I don't know for sure because I would not use this stove to boil that much water. |
Question: | Q tipo de combustible usa |
Answer: | Compatible with any 7/16 thread single butane/butane-propane mixed fuel canisters (EN 417). does NOT fit into propane canisters |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I remove the gas cylinder before it is empty for storage |
Answer: | Absolutely, you wouldn't want to store the gas cylinder attached to burner for an extended period of time. |
Question: | How much does it weigh |
Answer: | On my kitchen scale the full gas canister weighs 30.12 oz. and the stove components weigh 24.76 oz. When weighed together as a unit I got 54.86 oz. = 3.43 pounds. |
Question: | How long does it normally last for one full propane tank? Say, if I cook for about 20 minutes every time, how many times can a propane tank be used |
Answer: | Usually a tank will last 8 hrs if you leave it at medium heat to low. Depending in the space required to heat. So if you the calculations. 20 min X 3 = 60 min 3X8=24. So about 24 times give or take a few. |
Question: | Is it sturdy enough to set a cast iron skillet ontop of and cook food without worrying about damaging the burner setup |
Answer: | Hello. I take this stove camping and canoeing all the time. I use a large, heavy, cast iron skillet with a 11" base, 12" top, 2.25" sides to do my cooking. However, to maintain a hotter oil temperature for frying fish you must cover the cast iron skillet with a lid otherwise the oil will not get hot enough to boil. I purchased a commercial aluminum lid for a stock pot to use. NOW, LISTEN CAREFULLY, the factory propane cylinder PLASTIC BASE WILL NOT WORK and IS DANGEROUS TO USE with this setup. The cast iron skillet I use is much to heavy for safe use and with boiling oil you are heading for disaster. Here is the SOLUTION for a larger, very sturdy base. Get a new or used 12" non-stick fry pan. Take the handle off (grind, bend, or unscrew). File any sharp edges. Drill a 3/8" hole in the center of the pan. Get (1) 3/8" x 1 1/2" or 2" long bolt (depending how deep the non-stick fry pan is), lock nut, 2 washers. Get about 6" of 4" diameter PVC plastic pipe. Get a 4" PVC plastic pipe end cap with a flat bottom. Press, or glue, the PVC end cap onto the 6" long PVC pipe. Drill a 3/8" hole through center. Now assemble stand: non-stick fry pan cooking side faces away or to ground. PVC pipe is now all 1 piece and rests on top of flat surface of fry pan. 3/8" bolt with washer goes inside pipe, through fry pan and is bolted with washer and lock nut making the entire unit 1 piece. DO NOT tighten the 3/8" bolt so tight that it splits the plastic PVC, just snug. The 3/8" bolt should not extend past the lip of the fry pan or it will not sit level. The 1 pound cylinder will fit inside with single burner stove attached. You have just made a much safer base for your Coleman single burner stove. "WARNING" You must still exercise EXTREME CAUTION and CAREFULNESS when cooking with this setup and especially when using HOT OIL (wear oven mitts when removing HOT skillet). You can vary the diameter of the base fry pan for sturdiness, or the PVC pipe height. The cooking surface has now been raised but as long as the ground is solid and flat, or the table sturdy enough, I have not had an issue with tipping. There is a small space between the PVC pipe and the 1 pound cylinder. You can wedge a small twigs in, or plastic, whatever works to tighten the cylinder so it does not shift around or turn while cooking. I pack the PVC and base as 1 piece but you can unbolt them if you have to make 2 smaller items. Best Regards, and Enjoy Cooking With Your Coleman. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Any problems staying lit on windy days |
Answer: | No, I had two of them brand new and both failed on their own with zero wind. Sent both of them back. Was not reliable to take to the woods. No response from seller whatsoever. |
Question: | As the stove heats up the flame diminishes until it goes out completely, has anyone seen this problem and how did you fix it? Fine once cool again |
Answer: | I just bought two of them. Brand new. Both exhibit the same symptoms. When the base heats up, the flame diminishes within a minute. Both o-rings are brand new. |
Question: | What Fuel works with this item |
Answer: | It uses the typical fuel canisters sold at camping/outdoor stores. The fuel is usually an isobutane/propane mix. My preferred brand is Snow Peak Giga Power fuel, but the other brands are basically identical. The Snow Peak brand is usually a little cheaper than other brands and their canister has 0.5 oz more fuel in them. |
Question: | My O-Ring is damaged and doesn't seal, are there replacements? What size is it |
Answer: | 1.8 mm thick with an 8 mm inside diameter. O-ring can be ordered from online stores. Viton o-rings would be an upgrade. Buna-N would be a normal o-ring. |

BRS-3000T stove and 110g gas canister can be nested into 750ml pot perfectly
Power
The stove generates 2700W which corresponds to about 9200 BTU/hr. So regardless of its small size the stove should be pretty powerful.
From our experience the little BRS stove brings 2 cups (~0.5 L) of water from a natural source (~15C/52F) in about 2'30" to 2'50" depending on air temperature, water temperature, wind, etc. I mostly use an 1 L wide aluminum pot with a lid and use a small wind screen to reflect some heat.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this stove be used with other brand fuel canisters, or is Optimus fuel the only kind that fits |
Answer: | Thanks for contacting Oregon Mountain Community. The Jetboil pot support is not all that necessary. If you do go over 2 liters of boiling water, I suggest purchasing the pot support. This system comes all ready for use right out of the package. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Do the hot lips fit on the mug |
Answer: | Jetboils are best used to boil water. You can cook in them to make things like pasta, rice and soups. Anything that you can burn can be a little hard to clean off. In the case of rice, if you can some burned rice in it then you should boil some water in the cup after your done. It'll make the rice that may easier to clean up. Any of the models will essentially perform similar to others. The Zip doesn't have the ignitor on it which is pretty helpful to get things going quickly and not have to carry a lighter. To get the ignitor you'll have to upgrade to the flash, minimo or micromo. A little more money up front but I think worth it in the end if you'll use it a lot. |
Question: | Does it have the stove that attach to the feul with a sleve |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | How many ml is the pot |
Answer: | The zip is smaller and you need matches it does not have the self lighter attached like the personal. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do you have to have the fire within or can I place over a fire and cook inside of the oven instead of ontop |
Answer: | Only if one wants to start a car fire. |
Question: | would this product work for putting tea candles in for winter car warmth? Instead of a coffee can |
Answer: | Please flip it over and locate two brackets on the bottom, and not the slit below the door. That slit is smaller than the so-called ash tray it took me a while to discover that it wasn’t supposed to go through the slit right below the drop door. Good luck! |
Question: | Anyone having issues with the ash tray |
Answer: | Load Bering? To cook on or stand on? 10 Quart Cast Iron Deep Camp Dutch Oven - I could probably do it but wouldn't. |
Question: | Load bearing weight. How much weight can it handle |
Answer: | I own this stove . i would guess it weights about 25 to 30 pounds wiyhout the pipies attached. I am 72 years old. average strength and I can lift without a struggle. Generally a stove pipe needs to be higher than any object within 10' to 20' of it( if my memory serves). If it is out in the open -one ,maybe 2 . If smoke goes out the chimney and the wood burns well that is a good height. |

Answer: | Take a small aluminum loaf pan (about 3"x5"x2"deep) cover the bottom with about 3/4 of an inch of drier lint then put about 1 1/2 or so of pine saw dust over that... Melt some paraffin wax (gulf brand or equivalent ) in a double boiler then pour the hot wax over the saw dust until it is saturated... Let harden, cut into squares and when ready to use fluff the drier lint and light. This is just a basic recipe, play with it to get your own mix that works best... User questions & answers
Question: | How much does the whole set weigh |
Answer: | 13.25 oz with the storage net and plastic stove case |
Question: | How much water do the cups hold |
Answer: | About 800 ml (big one), about 250 ml for small one |
Question: | Does a fuel canister fit inside the pots for storage or transport |
Answer: | Yes the 8.11 size is made to fit in the pots. Nice compact set up. One thing I am going to get for my next trip is the legs that fit onto the bottom of the chaos canister to make it more sturdy and not tip |
Question: | Is it dishwasher safe |
Answer: | No, not even a little bit dishwasher safe. Took the above answer at face value and regret it. Both pots ruined after just one run in the dishwasher on the top rack - it completely stripped off the non-stock finish and I was left with a chalky dull metallic coating that rubs off with your finger (so probably would cook into your food). Completely unusable. Glad this was only 20 bucks. Throwing it in the garbage. Very much wish the company had just clearly printed "not dishwasher safe" on the package. |
