About Eureka
Though the exact year is unknown, Eurekas long history begins prior to 1895 in Binghamton, New York, where the company still resides today. Then known as the Eureka Tent & Awning Company, its first wares were canvas products--most notably, Conestoga wagon covers and horse blankets for nineteenth century American frontiersmen--as well as American flags, store awnings, and camping tents.
The company increased production of its custom canvas products locally throughout the 1930s and during the 1940 and even fabricated and erected the IBM "tent cities" just outside Binghamton. The seven acres of tents housed thousands of IBM salesmen during the companys annual stockholders meeting, which had since outgrown its previous locale. In the 1940s, with the advent of World War II and the increased demand for hospital ward tents, Eureka expanded operations and began shipping tents worldwide. Ultimately, upon the post-war return of the GIs and the resultant housing shortage, Eureka turned its attention to the home front during the 1950s by supplying awnings for the multitude of mobile homes that were purchased.
In 1960, Eurekas new and innovative Draw-Tite tent, with its practical, free standing external frame, was used in a Himalayan Expedition to Nepal by world renowned Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person documented to summit Mt. Everest only six years earlier. In 1963, Eureka made history during its own Mt. Everest ascent, with more than 60 of its tents sheltering participants from fierce 60+ mph winds and temperatures reaching below -20°F during the first all American Mt. Everest Expedition.
For backpackers and families, Eureka introduced its legendary Timberline tent in the 1970s. Truly the first StormShield design, this completely self-supporting and lightweight backpacking tent became one of the most popular tents the entire industry with sales reaching over 1 million by its ten year anniversary.
Eureka tents have also traveled as part of several historic expeditions, including the American Womens Himalayan Expedition to Annapurna I in 1978 and the first Mt. Everest ascents by a Canadian and American woman in 1986 and 1988. In recent history, tents specially designed and donated by Eureka sheltered Eric Simonson and his team on two historic research expeditions to Mount Everest, this time in a quest for truth regarding the 1924 attempted summit of early English explorers George Mallory and Andrew Irvine. During the 1999 expedition, the team made history finding the remains of George Mallory, but the complete mystery remained unsolved. Returning in 2001 to search for more clues, the team found amazing historical artifacts which are now on display at the Smithsonian.

Selecting a Tent
Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Expect the Worst
In general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you're a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.
Three- and Four-Season Tents
For summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.
For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.
Domes and Tunnels
Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.
Size Matters
Ask yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.
Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

User questions & answers
Question: | When the rain fly is off -- how much "mesh" is there? (that is, how much "mesh-windows" are open to the sky? (I'm looking for max star-viewing |
Answer: | This is a very good tent but not for watching stars. The top is white and not see thru. There are 2 small triangle shaped windows at the top that can be opened and thats all. This is a 4 season tent. If you want to see the stars you should get a 3 season tent. Most of the top of a 3 season tent is see thru mesh. |
Question: | Will a queen mattress fit in it |
Answer: | I sleep on a 6 inch high twin inflatable mattress in mine and am quite comfortable and have plenty of space to spare but I like space on the floor for stuff and to sit.(The tent isn't square so there may not be enough room at the top and bottom of the mattress, but definitely is in the middle if you had no gear). As a scout leader, we camp at Klondike Derby every year in the snow and it's a nice comfy tent. I just bring an extra blanket for the floor. With 2 adult leaders in the tent its a little snug when you have gear and boots in February around here just. |
Question: | Does this tent come with a footprint? If not, can I buy one |
Answer: | It does not come with a foot print and I have not found a quality foot print for this tent. The ones I have tried are so thin as to be worthless. |
Question: | where made |
Answer: | In the good Ole USA🇺🇸👍 |

The K-2 XT’s reflective web, storm guyouts, and logos provide nighttime visibility, so you can easily find the tent after sunset or in low-visibility conditions. At the other end of the spectrum, the cold weather PU window in the vestibule brightens the interior when you need to hunker down.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there any reason at all why a person should NOT buy this tent and is it worth |
Answer: | Worth every penny. I’ve really shopped around and compared. I even tried out REI’s comparable tent and it didn’t even come close. If you want a kickass tent, tgis is it. |
Question: | Can we use the new rain-fly w/ the old model of the tent? I would rather just change the rain-fly than have to buy a whole new tent |
Answer: | I bought two Assault 4s in the last 2 years. The flies are identical. Not sure if there were any changes prior to two years ago but their customer service is great so would imagine you could call them. 1-800-572-8822 |
Question: | Is this tent completely "seam taped |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | I am confused...the tent title says 4 people but the description says it "sleeps 2". Which is it |
Answer: | Well, any tent you buy will give you a rating on how many people it sleeps. That is if you use a small pad and sleeping bag with no room for gear. I always cut that number in half and that will give you a comfortable number for sleeping and gear. So a 4 is really a 2!I have slept in it 4 to 5 times and I would say you will be fine with two people. |

Question: | What is the dimension of the tent when rolled up and packed? Weight |

Question: | Does this have the "D" style doors where you can open all the way with 1 zipper, or is it the old style with 2 zippers that meet at the corner |
Answer: | It has 2 separate zippers, one zipper will open both all the way, and this is on both ends. All of the zippers a ykk and metal. |
Question: | Is this a real "rain-proof" tent? Will it completely stop rain from coming in |
Answer: | About as rain proof as you can get in a tent. The rain fly on the SQ4 is outstanding and will keep the body of the tent dry in heavy wind blown rain. You still have to be careful to set it up correctly. If you set a tent up in a low spot that floods any tent will eventually leak. A properly sized poly tarp under the tent will help protect it from rocks and roots while adding another layer of waterproofing. Another one tarp inside helps keep the floor clean and will ensure you stay dry in anything short of Noah's flood. |

Question: | Anyone have the height and footprunt dimensions?thaknks so much |
Answer: | The Cave is 85"L x 83"W x 49"H. |
Question: | Do I need a 7x7 ft footprint? If so looking for camo wood design any web sites |
Answer: | 7x7 would be too small. I believe I use a 10x8 and it's perfect size because it creates a floor for both vestibules. Not sure where to get one in camo but I'm sure they're common. I use a brown/silver one because the brown is good all-around camo, but I can use the silver side as a signal device if needed. |
Question: | Are there any storage pockets along the walls |
Answer: | I just received an email back from the manufacture of this product and he states that it does have pockets. |
Question: | If this is truly 4 season, why doesn't it say so |
Answer: | I've often found Amazon descriptions to be incomplete for various products. It's understandable since they sell almost everything, by almost every manufacturer in existence... so a percentage of them is sure to have some details missed. If you go to the Snugpack website, under (Specifications), it says... Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter. That's all 4 seasons for ya. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what is the weight limit |
Answer: | Technically the specification states the maximum load as 250 lbs. However, my wife and I exceed that by at least 100 lbs and there didn't seem to be any issues. If you search You Tube for "Travels with Yoly" and then find a video called "Blackwater River - Part 2 - Kayak Trip" you can see it in action. |
Question: | what does come with |
Answer: | Spoke to the manufacturer, and it no longer comes with a hand pump despite what the manufacturer's box, and amazon ad say. |
Question: | Are the seats removeable? Only want it myself for fishing |
Answer: | Yes, the seats are completely adjustable and removable. This is a very sturdy little boat as well. We have two and myself, my 12 year old daughter and our Border Collie all ride in one boat together. |
Question: | This or intex Challenger? What is the different |
Answer: | I own both kayaks and I would rather go with the explore to kayak, the reason is the Explorer - is self bailing has better seats that raise you out of the water in the bottom of the boat has an upturned nose to keep water from splashing you paddles are better quality. I have taken the explorer down a class 3 river the cabarrton river in Idaho with no problems. Take the skeg off if you do rivers, will just cause you problems if you dont, mainly you will loose it. Only use tue skeg in lakes or ponds. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this fit a queen size air mattress |
Answer: | While I have used this tent with a queen sized air mattress, it didn't really work. You cant zip the door shut along the bottom, and it takes up all of the floor space. If you are fine with that, then go for it. |
Question: | Is it actually only 2.8 pounds |
Answer: | Yes, it is. Actually I didn't have problem during TSA and I traveled with this tent under my seat. |
Question: | Which measurement is width across the front? Need to know if it will fit inside truck bed |
Answer: | A full sized American pickup truck, GMC Chevy, Dodge Ram, and Ford/Lincoln all have 48" between the wheel wells. A long bed, or full size bed, will measure 4' between the wheel wells X 8' in length. If you have the luxury of driving a truck right up to where you're setting up camp: sleep in the truck. Sleep in the cab. Get a camper shell. Get a tonneau cover, and sleep under the tonneau. Use the stake pockets on your bed rails, and improvise shelter with a tarp. Do I need to point out that since you have the luxury of a truck, by all means do not sleep on the ground? |
Question: | Can this be used on a porch or does it have to be pegged into the ground |
Answer: | My grandson "camped" in the living room . so yes it can be used without being pegged into the ground. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the screened in portion of the tent have zip up flaps in case it rains? It is hard to tell in the pictures. Does the screen room have a floor |
Answer: | Hi! The screen room does have a floor- same type of plastic floor as the main portion of the tent. The windows on the inside of the tent have zip up flats, but the screened in portion at the apex of the tent does not. That is covered only by the rain fly. |
Question: | With the back being 80% screened, does this make it too cold inside for kids (just in regards to regular cold mountain mornings--not winter camping |
Answer: | We went camping in this tent in mid-September at approx 12,000 ft above sea-level in Colorado and yes, not having a permanent cover over the back of the screened portion made it very cold. We ended up having to cover the back screen wall with moving blankets we had in the back of our car. This is just a one season tent for high altitudes, summer. |
Question: | If i was going to lay a tarp down first before setting the tent up(so nothing pokes through bottom), how big of a tarp would i need |
Answer: | we have a 16x20 ft tarp that we slightly fold over about 2 ft. that gives us about 3 ft in front of the tent as an entrance outside of the screened in area. you definitely need a large tarp for this tent even though it may look ridiculous when you fold it out :) |
Question: | I know the whole thing is 14 x 10. What size is the dome? Is it 10x11 like the other Evanston |
Answer: | Sleeping area is approximately square - about 10X10. The porch is about 4 ft deep and 10 ft wide on the sleeping area side, but the front porch corners are angled, so the front width of the porch is only about 9 ft. |

User questions & answers
Question: | how big is it when packed up in the bag |
Answer: | If you don't expand the bag, the tent packed inside the bag is 47" x 10" x 9" |
Question: | It's not waterproof ok, what about dust in a desert environment? would the inside be full of dust after a week |
Answer: | If you were to keep the zipper windows closed you would have a sauna. The tent is not torrential rain proof, but it is waterproof and that goes for inside as well as out. |
Question: | When did Coleman start selling tents without rain fly's |
Answer: | The tent has an integrated rain fly. There's a video on the Coleman site that shows it performing. For me though, I'd buy the optional rain fly accessory for added protection and ventilation. |
Question: | can this be set up inside |
Answer: | This has been the best tent ever!!! As long as you have the space to set it up in it can go anywhere you want it too. My Boyfriend and I have been camping for over 20 years and this is the best tent we have ever had :) |

User questions & answers
Question: | Has anyone tried pouring water through the holes in the lid, like for tea or coffee? Does it pour well |
Answer: | So far I have never tried to pour water through the holes but the lid does fit snug. The downsides is that the handle is slightly jiggly because it folds in, the holes are fairly small, and the handle for the lid is also small to fit the handle on top. When I drain things I like it to be quick (like with a strainer) but I'm sure you could use it to pour tea. |
Question: | Does the handle lock in the up position? So it holds the lid in place |
Answer: | Dear Customer, Thank you for your attention. You could see the fifth picture of the item, there is a raised button of handle for your open or close the handle, when you open the handle like picture 1, it is very steady for hold. And then you press the raised button of the handle, it is closed and holded on the lid to save place for you like picture 3, it is also steady. Any question, please feel free to contact us. Best Regards, Fire Maple Store |
Question: | What is the diameter and height of the pot |
Answer: | Φ168*111mm/6.6*4.4inches |
Question: | Could you provide the weight of the pot alone |
Answer: | Hi there, The weight of the pot is 0.73LB/0.33KG. |
