User questions & answers
Question: | what is the pin size |
Answer: | Don't know but make sure you are inserting into a 2" hitch..... think they are all the same size. |
Question: | how do you put a womens bike on this rack |
Answer: | Our bike rack is black. |
Question: | What's the best way to lock bikes to this rack? I've never used a hitch rack before |
Answer: | the lowest point at the back of the rack is 4.75 inches higher than the bottom of the tube that goes into the car hitch |
Question: | What's the distance between the two carry arms (the ends of the arms |
Answer: | None of our racks are approved for use on a trailer mounted receiver hitch. Any trailer or trailered vehicle (including 5th wheel type) has a slight side to side motion that's very low frequency (1 to 1-1/2 times per second) that fatigues the steel from which the racks are manufactured. The fatigue first happens at a molecular level, but eventually (several thousands of cycles later) a visible crack will appear. Once the crack has formed, it will enlarge, finally to the point where the rack drops off the vehicle and the rack (and bikes) impact the roadway. This is also a dangerous situation for whoever may be following the trailer on the highway. We have seen 100+ incidents where the consumers/end user has not taken this advice and suffered disastrous results. I've even had phone calls from consumers who said they read that advice (do not use on a trailer) and ignored it, only to discover a tragic end result. So . . . don't do it. If you insist on doing it regardless of the above, please use some other companies’ rack. |

About Allen Sports
Richard Allen (pictured left in 1972) started Allen Sports in his garage in 1967. Since its founding, the company has been committed to producing the highest-quality, easiest-to-use bike racks and bicycle-related products on the market. Allen, a onetime aerospace engineer, opened Allen Sports after building a prototype bike carrier in his Lincoln, Massachusetts shop in his free time. The first-ever trunk-mounted bicycle carrier made of electrical conduit, metal strapping, and fire hose casings (for padding) was refined on weekend excursions to Cape Cod. Shortly afterward, Allen took his design to market, and by 1971 had established a national presence for his product.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it fold for storing |
Answer: | The hole on the rack for the hitch pin is 1/2". This is designed to work with the No Wobble Bolt that is included with the rack. This bolt works to securely tighten the rack when installed on the vehicle and keeps the rack from moving during use. |
Question: | Would this fit on a 2012 Nissan Rogue |
Answer: | The brackets that the straps are attached to rotate around the rack arms, making it fairly easy once you figure out the best position. I actually had 3 women's bikes on the rack with no problems. The straps were on the diagonal bar and the vertical bar below the seat and it was very tight, no movement at all. No issues with women's bikes at all here. |
Question: | What is the max weight capacity for bikes on this rack |
Answer: | If you are talking about leaving the bikes, we purchased the doberman lock and secured the bikes and lock to the straight pole on back, we have two to interweave between the bike wheels and the pole. We also brought a locking pin for the hitch. Never had a problem, we have left them on there while down the shore, on bike trails while we walk or go to get something to eat. |
Question: | Why does the description say not for RVs? Has anyone tried this with a motorhome or trailer with success |
Answer: | On the current version (2016 and newer) hitch racks, the carry arms are 11.5" apart on center. This translates to an outside dimension of approximately 13" |

User questions & answers
Question: | What does "tilt back for easy lift-gate access" mean? will it tilt back to lift an suv hatch |
Answer: | I have a Chevy Cruze and have a substantial clearing when I raise my trunk |
Question: | Does this sway back and forth while you drive with bikes on it |
Answer: | Yes. Mi,e is new it does sway back and forth. It appears some people answered this about putting the bolt in. The automatic quick release ones do not have a bolt that you put in. It has the locking mechanism on it that is supposed to expand and keep it from wobbling but I can't see it's doing that. Disappointed in that as it makes me feel like it's not entirely safe going down the street. Thought it would be easier to use because it says no tools required to put it on the hitch. But it doesn't seem to be holding as well as the standard ones you palpable through |
Question: | will this rack work with an external spare tire on the back of the car; Toyota RAV |
Answer: | Do not buy any product from this company. We had a 4 bike rack. The frame broke off while we were driving and we lost all 4 bikes. Company would not stand behind warranty |
Question: | I read one review that the person had trouble adapting the hitch to a 2" receiver. Has anyone else had that problem |
Answer: | It comes with an adapter for the 2 inch receiver and am currently using it on my truck with no problems at all. |

- Sport Type: Biking
User questions & answers
Question: | Does thus fit a 2004 Gmc envoy? And do i have to remove it when not in use to reach the hatch |
Answer: | It fits the smaller receiver but also has an adapter that fit snuggly into a 2" receiver. It also has the ability to lean back to get into the hatch window, but we could not open the tailgate without removing the rack on our Pilot. |
Question: | The bike carrier wobbles at the tilt away release - how do I stop the wobble |
Answer: | You can add a plastic or metal shin plate that would sit inside |
Question: | How does everyone keep the front wheel and bike from from banging around since this only secures the top portion of the bike |
Answer: | I use a combination bike lock (alone when I'm just going down the road to a bike path) and bungee cords (for longer trips/transports). I thread it so secures the wheels and prevents theft. |
Question: | The carrier wobbles badly in a receiver. Does anyone know the way to fix |
Answer: | As others have mentioned - it WILL NOT wobble IF you use the wobble bolt that came with it and tighten it all the way. No Wobble. BUt I still am concerned and have a question: The wobble bolt nut has a nylon thread to keep it from coming loose. But nylon threaded nuts are not designed to take on and off. The nylon loses its bite. Well, I need to take it on and off often. What is the recommendation from Allen? |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the tilt angle? Does it tilt 90 degrees completely flat, or 45 degrees, etc |
Answer: | Yes. Adult and children. My bike frame is different than my husbands, my bike sits differently but is secure. |
Question: | Is anyone else having trouble fully opening their 2015 F-150 Tailgate with this attached |
Answer: | It depends on how you attach the rack. The bottom hook can be placed either on the bottom of the bumper, which would prohibit you from opening the trunk, or you can hook it on the bottom of the trunk, which will allow you to access the trunk when the bikes are removed. |
Question: | Just received and has a lot of play up and down and to sides. Anyone have experience with this |
Answer: | I think someone could most likely just steal it right off the car. You could wrap a different strap from the bottom to the top of the bike rack through the inside of your car if you were worried about theft. |
Question: | does this rack hold a women's bikes |
Answer: | Bikes with a non-horizontal top tube are all a bit different with their angles, so you have to move the bike around and see what works. Suffice it to say, your wheels will not be equidistance from the ground, but if the bike is stable, it is stable. Some newer bikes with shocks also have nontraditional top tubes. One good alternative is to spend a little bit of money and have a hitch attached to the car. I have a small hatchback. With a hitch, I can use a bike rack with wheel holders. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the hold women’s bike without middle bar |
Answer: | It's listed as 27.25 oz's |
Question: | is there a protective cover that works well with this style rack (2 bikes |
Answer: | It's not really a straightforward answer. The correct length depends on a couple of things: Sit Inside or Sit On top Kayak. Is your paddling style going to be shallow or deeper? I recall when I first started paddling I Googled for the information for which length would be correct for me. That would be my recommendation. Try https://www.bendingbranches.com/sizing/kayak-paddle or https://paddling.com/learn/kayak-paddle-length-how-to-pick-the-right-size/ |
Question: | Can rack be locked to vehicle |
Answer: | I have the trophy charcoal color, so can't really answer your question for sure. But, I'm pretty sure that no matter which color you choose, both blades of the paddle will match each other. You won't get one blade that is citrus and the other blade blue with a white star. They will both be the same. Also, don't expect the blades to be brightly colored on both sides. The blades are semi-transparent, so on front they are nice and colorful, but on he back side, they are more muted with the colors from the front showing through to the back. They are really nice paddle and once you try them on the water, you'll be glad you bought them. |
Question: | Does this fit Honda Odyssey van |
Answer: | It is 4mm. |

Product features
ROOFTOP MOUNT - FORK MOUNT
Fork mounts make it easy to load and unload your bike and require you to remove the front wheel (which can be stored in your vehicle or on the roof with a wheel fork).
ROOFTOP MOUNT - WHEEL-ON MOUNT
Wheel-on mounts allow you to load and unload your bike fully assembled, meaning it’s ready to go as soon as you get to the trail.
HITCH MOUNT - HANGING TILT RACK
Hanging racks tilt or swing out of the way to access your vehicle’s trunk or hatch. They’re great options for carrying multiple bikes (fit up to 5 bikes), but be aware of the type of bike - anything without traditional geometry may need a top tube adapter.
HITCH MOUNT - TRAY RACK
Tray racks can carry virtually any type of bike (and fit up 2 bikes or 4 with an extension). They offer more spacing between bikes to minimize interference and can either tilt or swing (with an adapter) out of the way while loaded.
- Fits all types of dual-arm bikes on vehicles equipped with either a 1.25 or a 2 inch hitch receiver. (Please check listing picture for some exemptions.)
- 4 bike capacity with sturdy and handy construction. Easy ratchet buckles. TYGER cable lock & hitch lock & security strap included. OE standard Black color E-Coating for rust resistance.
- Convenient vehicle access with tilt down feature and foldable carry arms when not in use. Soft cradles and protection pad designed to secure your bikes individually and protect your bike frames.
- Easy installation in minutes. (DIY instruction included in package.) NOTE: Both provided Safety Straps must be installed to stabilize bikes while driving. Otherwise, any resulting accident and damage will not be covered by warranty.
- TYGER No-Hassle Limited Lifetime Warranty!

Question: | Is there any sort of speed limit with the rack |
Answer: | I had the same problem with my Jeep and bought an extension for the hitch |

User questions & answers
Question: | Where was it made |
Answer: | That depends on if your BMW X3 has a standard 2” receiver. As I recall from the short time I owned one of these, I think it came with an adapter for 1” up to 2”. But to be honest, the straps that held the bike into place sucked so badly that I only used it twice. I can’t recall if I threw mine out or if it is gathering rust somewhere, if I could find mine, you could have it for free! I ended up buying Swagman Hitch that holds two bikes and offers three points of contact. Please note, I am not selling anything, just telling you what I bought and mounted to my Chrysler 300. This hitch was terrible, at least for me. |
Question: | One of the straps on my rack got torn. What do I need to buy to replace it |
Answer: | I’m not sure. But I will say, this rack is junk. I used mine twice, hated it, almost lost my bikes off of it, and the rack quickly found it’s way to the trash. I ended up buying a Swagman rack that has three points of contact on the bike, each tire is cradled and strapped in, and a padded locking hook is placed over the center of the bike. That rack I believe would lean forward enough for your 98 Suburban. |
Question: | Is there a hitch lock that works with this bike rack? I do not want to drill out the holes to enlarge them |
Answer: | No, with the straps you can secure it even more. Just make sure the screws are on tight and from time to time tighten them again. Good luck |
Question: | How long is the stem that holds the bikes (i.e. the one where the straps are) on a 4 bike rack carrier |
Answer: | no, sorry, only the bike rack |
