Grab two sides opposite each other toward the top with one hand;

Answer:	Use a butter knife to go into the small slots in the top of the case. They will slide apart but can crack easily so be careful.

Answer:	The plastic box is removable from the wooden part. If I remember correctly, the plastic ball holder is fixed in place. This is a very nice-looking assemblage, as I shopped carefully for something that would look good.

Answer:	Yes. Baseballs are 73-76mm and tennis balls are 65.41 to 68.58 so the tennis ball should fit just fine but with an extra gap around the ball.
