I think that means the 1003 is just slightly smaller but still within the specs of a collegiate ball. Both are approved for NCAA and NFHS use. I'm guessing the 1003 is used more in high school ball. Nike's website describes the sizing and naming convention, but I have yet to see what the actual specs are in terms of length, circumference, as well as a governing body for a set pressure range. I have seen some really pointy-end balls while others show a huge difference in air inflation (one ball manufacturer for the same size can say 7-9 psi, while another of the same size will say 11-13 psi). Hopefully this answers everything. If you are looking for football for younger than 6 years old, they make a size 5 or "mini" for such kids. |
