As long as the data is still on the card and it has not been overwritten, you'll be able to get the files. Answer:	Sounds like you are trying to boot a 2012 Mac with our bootable CD of Data Rescue 3. Unfortunately this does not work as Macs mid 2011 and newer cannot boot CDs anymore. You will need to create a secondary startup disk which involves him downloading the Mac OS X installer and installing Mac OS X on a flash drive. Once you have it installed you can boot to the drive and install Data Rescue 3 from there.Although it is not normally necessary to boot to a different drive to run Data Rescue 3 as we did not require that in version 3. You should be able to boot your system and install the software. The only reason you would need to boot to the CD would be if his Mac is no longer working in which case you would need to find another Mac to run the software from either to create the secondary startup disk or to connect his 2 Macs and use target disk mode.Your best option would be to submit a support ticket to us unless you are tech savvy.

Answer:	The basic software - local non-cloud backup - is perpetual, with free upgrades within the same version. There are subscriptions available for optional cloud services. I run a wide variety of TI versions from 9.1 (on old XP systems, before the cloud was available) to 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 (on newer operating systems - I probably have over 30 licenses), and they all keep working on all the machines with no ongoing costs or renewals. Eventually, they'll stop updating older versions, but they still work fine unless you upgrade to a newer operating system that the older version doesn't support. I don't use cloud backups on any of these.
