I worked at a professional grooming salon (primarily working on dogs) for 5 years throughout college. We had a ton of different tools to help with getting matts out. For some reason I decided to use tiny cuticle scissors on my long hair cat for her back matts/knots instead of investing in a tool like this (at first). They kept popping up more frequently (I suspected family member in the house was petting her against the way her fur lies). Thankfully I bought this tool and it worked immediately! She loves to be brushed/pet so she was purring the whole time I used it on her. I will say that it did seem to thin out her coat but I honestly think it was just removing a lot of the bulky undercoat she has. My short-haired cats, it works less well, but did do a decent job at getting some mats out of the standard short haired cat. The very short haired cat, this doesn't do much for, it's more productive just to brush her.

Answer:	The furminator has tines that are really close together. My dogs did not like it because it pulls their thick hair. This product has one side where the teeth are pretty far apart. Use this side first until you get a lot of the loose hair off or until your dog gets used to it. Then turn it over and use the side with the teeth closer together to finish removing the loose hair. My dogs enjoy this product, they would not tolerate the furminator.

Question:	My old cat has formed a lot of big knots in her hair that we can't get out. Will this remove them with out stressing her
Answer:	It won't last long in the elements w/o cover, paint was sparse. Following others' excellent ideas, we applied 2 coats of exterior paint, added a condensed foam piece (children's flooring) to the floor (headspace is low, so we couldn't add bulkier insulation), and Reflectix insulation to walls and ceiling of lower space. Also used sturdy waterproof tarps (used large beach towel plastic clips to hold in place) to keep rain and wind out. It was flimsy for the price (for us), so we fortified it as much as possible!

Question:	I have a mane coon with long hair and has got matted will this work
Answer:	If you mean to clean the "house" portion with the front and side doors, NO. I put one of those K-Y heating pads in, but it was a bit of a struggle, and had to run the electric cord out thru the side door. The cat I got it for never went inside all winter, so I removed the pad. She goes up the stairs, or over the door canopy to the area under the top roof, which is where I feed her. Unless you have someone who can make the side or back swing open, you really can only clean by sticking your hand through the cat doors.

Question:	How long can you go between brushings
Answer:	Yes. This wax is very easy to work with. If you need to see how it works on wood look up Annie Sloan was on wood on utube. This wax however will not protect surfaces from long periods of standing water. I have covered coffee tables and side tables with it but always advise to protect by using a coaster and wipe dust with a dry clean cloth.

Answer:	I would think so. I have never had a long-haired dog like yours. I use it on my dogs that have ~2 inch fur/guard hair with thick undercoats in the winter. Fortunately I don't have to brush them much other than when they start to lose that undercoat. My little English Setter has kind of wispy hair. It does not work for her. If she gets a mat, it is obvious and I cut it off. For her this tool would be like using a broom when you just need a paint brush.. For my two shedders, this is awesome. Hope this helps.

Answer:	The blades are not real sharp, but they do help get thru tangled fur on my poodles fur. It would probably work for a sheepdog also.

Answer:	In the instructions it shows you remove a screw, switch the blades, then replace the screw to make it left handed.
Question:	Do we use it as a comb; or how do we use it effectively? How do you use this tool
Answer:	I own poodles, so given the breed this may or may not work for you. Also I am not a pro, this is free advice so take it at that value. First brush the hair (wire dog brush). Then use a wide tooth comb. When I come to a tangle I use the rake. If it is a small tangle say on the ears, I try to grab the dog hair above the mat with one hand and use the rake in the other so as not to pull on the dogs hair. If it is a large mat or close to the skin I work parts of the mat at a time. You could use is as a comb but it is not real effective unless your dog has lots of small mats.
