13 best halogen bearded dragon

A halogen bearded dragon is not a recognized or common term in the context of reptiles and amphibians. Bearded dragons are a type of lizard commonly kept as pets in the reptile-keeping community. They require specific temperature and lighting conditions in their terrariums to thrive.

Terrarium Heat Lamps and Mats:

  1. Heat Lamps: Heat lamps are essential for maintaining the proper temperature gradient in a bearded dragon's enclosure. These lamps emit heat, simulating the warmth of the sun. They help create basking spots, which are crucial for regulating a bearded dragon's body temperature. Halogen bulbs can be used as heat sources, as they produce intense heat and light.

  2. Heat Mats: Heat mats, also known as under-tank heaters, are another heating option for reptile enclosures. They are typically placed under one side of the terrarium to create a warm spot for the reptile to sit on. However, they may not be the primary source of heat for bearded dragons, as these lizards also require access to basking lamps for UVB light.

Reptiles and Amphibians: Bearded dragons are reptiles. They belong to the family Agamidae and are native to Australia. They are popular pets due to their docile nature, relatively small size (compared to some other reptiles), and unique appearance. Proper temperature and lighting are crucial for their well-being.

Pet Supplies: When keeping bearded dragons or other reptiles as pets, it's essential to provide them with the right supplies and equipment, such as:

  • Terrarium or Enclosure: A suitable tank or enclosure with proper ventilation and adequate space for the bearded dragon.

  • Heat Sources: Heat lamps, ceramic heat emitters, or heat mats to create temperature gradients.

  • UVB Lighting: UVB bulbs are necessary to provide bearded dragons with the UV radiation they need for proper calcium absorption and bone health.

  • Substrate: Suitable substrates like reptile carpet, paper towels, or loose substrate (like reptile sand) to line the enclosure floor.

  • Food and Water Bowls: Dishes for offering food and water to your pet.

  • Decor and Hides: Branches, rocks, caves, and other items for your bearded dragon to climb on, hide under, or bask on.

  • Thermometers and Hygrometers: Instruments to monitor temperature and humidity levels within the enclosure.

In summary, while a "halogen bearded dragon" is not a recognized term, understanding the importance of heat lamps, heat mats, and other essential supplies for maintaining the well-being of bearded dragons and other reptiles is crucial for responsible pet ownership. Proper care and attention to environmental conditions are necessary to ensure the health and happiness of these pets.

Zilla Heat & UVB Basking Fixture

Zilla

Based on 213 reviews Check latest price

Product description

The Zilla Halogen/UVB combo fixture provides the necessary heat and UVB that most reptiles require from one source. Currently multiple fixtures are used to accomplish this dual requirement. This can overload the top of the terrarium and have an unappealing look. Reptile would have to physically move from the basking Spot to receive heat and then to a different area to receive UVB.

  • Heat, light and UVB in one compact fixture!
  • Mini Halogen bulb is an energy-efficient heat source while coil bulb provides UV rays essential for reptile health
  • Simulates the effects of a mercury vapor lamp but uses less energy and allows for a concentrated basking spot area with overlapping UVB rays
  • Uses one Zilla Fluorescent Coil Bulb and one Mini Halogen Bulb - sold separately
  • Great for both desert and tropical reptile environments
  • Item Height :5 IN /Item Length :9.7 IN /Item Width :6 IN

User questions & answers

Question: will this work for a ball python tank
Answer: We would recommend against it; ball pythons don't require UV light and would be better off with an undertank heater to provide belly heat. It won't harm the snake if used on the tank, and could be used to provide lighting to plants, but there are better options (undertank heaters like heat pads) for ball pythons!
Question: Can i use this for a baby russian tortoise
Answer: I don't know. You would need to know how big the tortoise will get. This item might be too small for the enclosure.
Question: What is the actual dimensions of the fixture
Answer: 9 inches long, 5 inches deep and at it's highest, 2.5 inches tall
Question: Would this work for a day gecko
Answer: This fixture is small so the gecko will need to be able to get close enough to it with branches to get the UVB output. It might work for a juvenile.

Question: My bulb was quite foggy beige color. turned on for 5 sec then shut off. I read instructions & says it will turn off when hot. Is it defective
Answer: Could be that or your lamp isn't rated for the bulb, the bulb should be foggy only up to a certain point and then you will have the clearer glass and a central focal point right in the middle. If that is foggy or a milky white then it is not like the bulbs I have received.
Question: Can someone explain what is the difference between the 180-200 uvb bulb and the 400 uvb bulb

User questions & answers

Question: Can this be used as a plant lamp
Answer: Yes
Question: Is this good for hegdehog
Answer: Hedgehog need to be 72-80 that is what it is in my house. I would think these would do the trick if you keep your house at 68 or less. I used this for Organic Chickens. They have to have 8 hours of no light, however, that is when it is the coldest. These keep them warm and it is quiet time. I like these because they are not the HOT HOT that the red lights are. I would think that a hedgehog would not need that hot of a light. If so the 150 Watt or LESS would probably do it. Call your VET. If it got too hot I would hope you would have a place where the hedgehog could go to cool off. Make sure that the light is far above him/her. I am thinking she is in the house?
Question: Do the Zilla ceramic heat emitters fit in this dome
Answer: Do UVB Reptisun tube bulbs fit in this lamp?
Question: How many watts? I'll be connecting it to a Zilla temperature controller and need to know
Answer: The maximum wattage is 150 for the large 8.0" and 60 watts for the small 5.5" version.

User questions & answers

Question: How long are these supposed to last for? I have had to get 10 in the past 18 months. Will any other bulb brand fit in the matching light fixtures
Answer: Good evening Madeline, They are rated on an average of 2000 hours; at 14 hours per day would be 142 days, 20 weeks, about 5 months. Please contact us directly with your details. Kind regards, Lynn and Thomas, Carolina Custom Cages
Question: will this heat up to 105 basking area in a 4ft long by 2ft wide and 1ft tall
Answer: Good morning "Amazon Customer",We generally use the 50w GU10 halogen bulbs with a 20L (30x12x12) to produce a basking spot of 115 and a cool end at 80. You've got the same height, but a lot more area. We would suggest starting with the 50w and take some temperature readings with an IR Surface Thermometer of the basking spot and elsewhere in the habitat. You'll probably need to add an additional heat source in the middle; depending on the ambient room temperature and what you want the cool end temperature to be.Kind regards,Lynn and Thomas, Carolina Custom Cages
Question: How often should i replace the 50w gu10 halogen reptile basking bulb? would i do it the same as my zoo med reptisun 10.0 uvb light every 6 months
Answer: Good morning Jeneva,The GU10 Halogen Reptile Basking Bulbs do not degrade over time before they burn out, therefore they can be used up to burn out. It is helpful though to have a spare handy when that occurs.Kind regards,Lynn and Thomas, Carolina Custom Cages
Question: Does it give out any UV? or is it only good for Heat
Answer: Good morning Janice,The GU10 Halogens are just for heat (basking spot). We prefer the Zoo Med ReptiSun 10.0 UVB T5HO Reptile Lighting Fluorescent Tubes for UVB; NOT the compact fluorescents. Kind regards,Lynn and ThomasCarolina Custom Cages

User questions & answers

Question: Do you have an approximate temp for an area 12 inches below the bulb? It would be the basking area
Answer: Sorry, don't have a thermometer in the tank. I'm using them for an above tank basking platform for my softshell turtle. The lamp is about 10" above his platform. But, I live in SoCal where the temps are pretty moderate even in winter. My turtle is happy, but I think it might depend on your creature. It does give off some pretty good heat, just depends on the size of your pet. My 4' ball python needs at least 150 watt bulb. Hope this helps a little.
Question: How would this work for a hedgie
Answer: I'm not sure. I bought it for my Hermit Crabs, mainly for the UVA/UVB and to heat the aquariums during the day and they worked perfectly in my dome lamp. I will buy again when I need more. Can't beat the price and so far, I haven't had any problems with them going out. They do make the metal lamp hot and about 3 inches from the lamp where the light shines but as you get further away, naturally, the heat lessens. I have it sitting on a metal mesh lid and it heats up a 20 gallon but doesn't overheat it. Sorry, I can't help for a hedgie but I would think it would keep one warm. I don't know if they need the UVA/UVB but in my opinion, it is supposed to simulate sunshine and what doesn't need that? Maybe you can google it? There is still a lot of debate about whether Hermit Crabs need it but they have grown so much faster with it. I am very happy with these bulbs.
Question: Does this fit a standard light fixture
Answer: Do not buy this product! It will fit in a normal fixture but beware as they will short it out. These bulbs almost started a fire! IMHO...Amazon should not be selling these bulbs and I made Amazon very aware of this.
