3 best kelp for horses

Kelp, specifically kelp supplements, are sometimes used in equine nutrition to provide additional nutrients and support for horses' overall health, including joint health. Here's what you need to know about kelp for horses:

  1. Nutritional Benefits: Kelp is a type of seaweed that is rich in various vitamins, minerals, and trace elements. It is often considered a natural source of essential nutrients for horses, including iodine, potassium, magnesium, and other minerals. These nutrients can contribute to overall equine health.

  2. Iodine Content: Kelp is particularly known for its iodine content. Iodine is essential for proper thyroid function in horses, which plays a significant role in regulating metabolism and overall health. However, it's important to note that excessive iodine intake can be harmful, so kelp should be used cautiously and in appropriate amounts.

  3. Joint Health: Some kelp supplements for horses may be marketed as beneficial for joint health. This is because kelp contains certain compounds, such as glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate, which are commonly associated with joint support. However, the effectiveness of kelp alone for joint health may vary, and it is often used in conjunction with other joint supplements for comprehensive support.

  4. Digestive Health: Kelp may also be used to support digestive health in horses. The fiber content in kelp can help regulate bowel movements and promote a healthy gut.

  5. Caution and Dosage: While kelp can be a valuable addition to a horse's diet, it should be used with caution and in moderation. Excessive iodine intake can lead to thyroid dysfunction, so it's important to consult with a veterinarian or equine nutritionist to determine the appropriate dosage for your specific horse.

  6. Form and Availability: Kelp supplements for horses are typically available in various forms, including powders, pellets, and liquid extracts. The form you choose may depend on your horse's preferences and dietary requirements.

  7. Quality and Sourcing: When considering kelp supplements for your horse, it's essential to choose a reputable brand that sources its kelp from clean, uncontaminated waters to ensure product safety and quality.

In summary, kelp supplements can be a source of beneficial nutrients for horses, including iodine and certain compounds associated with joint health. However, their use should be approached with care, and consultation with a veterinarian or equine nutritionist is recommended to determine the appropriate dosage and suitability for your horse's specific needs.

Answer: Not sure. The compression comes from how tightly you wrap them around the affected limb, and how many layers you apply.
