5 Steps for Setup

Plug in filter, light hood, & heater using the 'drip loop' method (pg 65 in included guide). Rinse filter cartridge, remove insert from back of hood, add thermometer & heater to aquarium before use.

Add Fish after waiting 24 hours

Turn off light, unplug & remove hood. Place fish, while in bag from store, into aquarium for 20min. Open bag & add ½ cup of aquarium water every 5 minutes. Repeat once. Replace light hood and plug in.

Find Level Location

The aquarium should be placed and filled on a level, suitably-designed and appropriately-sized aquarium stand.

Add gravel, plants and decor

Rinse gravel, plants and decor. The gravel depth should measure 1” - 3” from the bottom. Cover the base of plants and bottom of decor items with gravel to hold securely in place.

Add room-temperature water

Fill aquarium with water to ½” from top of frame. Add water conditioner as directed.

Answer:	I don't know but a fish knowledgeable person told me you don't want to change the filters as there is some kind of beneficial bacteria that is good for the tank. I have changed the water many times and truthfully my filter isn't dirty. It kind of catches things and they drop to the bottom of the filter reservoir- out of the tank. It's just a lightweight sponge, you could probably buy some cheapie sponge from the dollar store and cut it to size of you wanted

Answer:	Considering the species you wish to keep, we would recommend one male guppy to two or three females (keep in mind they breed like rabbits) or a group of 5 to 8 male guppies, and at least 3 or 4 corydoras catfish of the same variety. Total number of fish should be 10-12. As to shrimp, that will depend a little on what type but typically for this size tank, about 4 to 6 should be fine. Add these first so they can grow to a mature size and not be eaten by the fish. Provide plenty of plant coverage as well.

Answer:	the person who answered amazon, simply not true. 55gallon and larger petsmart hands down. 55 gallon and smaller walmart hands down. you can get 20gallon kit at walmart for $80 and 55 gallon for $180. on amazon 20gallon kit is $100-120 and 55 gallon is $380-400. i got 125gallon kit from petsmart for $600-$700. Amazon kind of expensive for aquariums actually cause even tho it says free shipping your paying for shipping in the price cause aquariums aren't cheap to ship. petsmart and walmart can get around that cause they can just throw it on a truck with everything else already being delivered to that store. just you have to go pick it up at store cause they wont ship it to your house.
Question:	Anything else you need to buy with this kit to get started? Thermometer, testing strips, anything like that? Or is it really all-inclusive
Answer:	Hi Shay, thanks for your question, it made me smile! There are no self-cleaning aquariums. Filters reduce your maintenance. Without a filter, you would do a partial water change every 1-2 days with a gravel vacuuming. With filtration in place, you typically do a good vacuuming and 30% water change every 30 days for a tank this size, but that is dependent on the types of inhabitants, and the quantity of them. Replace filter media monthly, and take the filter system apart every couple of months. Once your tank has been up for a month or so, begin adding Tetra EasyBalance Plus weekly to help reduce the frequency of water changes, and maintain water quality in between them.

Question:	So I am confused does it have a top on it because I dont want anyone to jump out
Answer:	The light and reflector sit on top of an open part of the tank. On the front side of the tank the top of the wall juts inward several inches. On the back side of the tank there is an acrylic platform that is about 4" wide (which is meant to hold the back end of your light/relecter, then there is about another open 4-6 inches where you can insert your filter/pump, cords and tubing, thermometer, decorations etc or use it as the opening to feed you fish - other wise you'll have to remove the entire hood each time you need to feed your fist or mess with the tank. I think there is so much acrylic on the top of the tank to give stability to the tank. IF you were to remove the crummy light/reflector (as many of us have) you'll leave a very open space where something could craw or jump out. Instead, I added an LED light set that hooks on the outer edges of the length of my tank - so for your 40 gallon you would want LED lights 36" or longer. They have metal brackets on each end to allow it to sit on top of your tank. It won't be in the water but it is still an electrical hazard plus if you have filters or any bubblers running the they will spit water at the light. I've had mine this way for about a month with no problems. Mine do leave enough space where I can feed my fish without having to take the lights off (so it's enough space for an lucky fish to jump out - but probably not tempting enough for them to try. If you want to put anything in the aquarium you'll have to take off the lights temporarily and decorate, clean etc.
Question:	what kind of lights the hood has
Answer:	The hood has a light fixture, but no bulb. I got a 24” T8 17 watt bulb for planted tanks at Petco and it worked despite the fact that there was a little slip of paper in the box that stated that the hood would only take a particular brand of bulb. I couldn’t find the recommended bulb brand so I went with a $15 fluorescent bulb meant for planted aquariums while I wait for my Finnex 24/7 to come in.
Question:	am interested in this particular unit but notice 3 color options. Does this pertain to the base of the unit
Answer:	What is unique about this aquarium is that usually you have to put on a backsplash yourself (usually black or colbalt or some crazy design) this aquarium has one whole acrylic panel that is a solid color (or left clear). If you are setting the aquarium in the middle of the room, get the clear, if it's going up against a wall pick one of the two colors = it gives the fish some security having those dark colors behind them. I personally chose the black and it's lovely. I'm sure the blue is great too but my tank decorations matched the black background better. The kind of background you put on yourself is a pain to do - there are always pockets of air or it starts slipping down - at least the adhesive made for them doesn't permanently stick so you can always remove it and try again. But to have one panel exactly the color you need is one of the many reasons this tank costs more than a glass tank.
Question:	How many gallons is this tank
Answer:	length x width x height divided by 231=46.75324 and so on. By the time you put any substrate, rocks, etc. you will have even less. No a true 50 gallon in a sense.

Question:	I use an S10 filter on my 5 gallon betta tank .For best results with tropical fish should I use (1) Bio-carb and (1) Bio-clear or (2) bio-carb's
Answer:	It is confusing that they only provide one of each cartridge with the power filter kit, so I actually emailed Hagen customer support (the makers of these filters), and, according to them, you are supposed to use two of the same type of filter cartridge, not one of each. So you should be using 2 BioCarb cartridges for your betta.
Question:	how many of the bio clear (zeo light plus ) and how many bio carb filters should i use if i have a 3 filter system for goldfish? thanks
Answer:	If it's just for goldfish, use 2 for the goldfish and 1 for carbon. However, what I did is, one of each, and in the 3rd chamber I put Seachem's matrix in a small bag and put it in. This not only establishes good bacteria, but maintains a good more permanent biological function. Don't add too much matrix ceramic to 3rd chamber closest to pump, so as to not restrict too much of the normal flow of filtration. Please note that when cleaning, do not clean or disturb the established matrix, you can remove excess bio, but only if it becomes a problem with the flow. I love this filter, it's excellent for 5gal and 10gal tanks.

Answer:	14" w/o light & 16" with the light...base about 1-1/8" beyond that.

Answer:	Yes, that's where it goes. No worries, though. It's a standard water pump (& its cord) designed to be submerged. Your fish won't get electrocuted...unless you have an electric eel swimming around. ;)
Question:	What is the difference between this tank and the Marineland Contour
Answer:	I called Marineland and they told me the only difference between the Portrait 5 gallon and the Contour 5 gallon is in the curvature of the lighting system. The lights themselves are identical (9 white LEDs and 6 blue LEDs). They also advised me that they are no longer making the Contour 5 gallon because except for the minor difference in the lighting structure they are exactly the same tank with the same filtration components. FWIW, I bought the 5 gallon Portrait and am very happy with it.
Question:	Can I buy this for my Betta fish
Answer:	This tank is an excellent choice for bettas, thanks for asking! The pump is fully adjustable, down to 35 gph, and the size is perfect for a betta fish. You can place a heater in the front portion of course, and it is easy to maintain.

Answer:	yes, the Bio Dude solar grow t5 plant light set 22” long can sit on a 10 gallon zilla screen top or a 20 gallon zilla screen top .
Question:	How Many Pounds Can It Hold
Answer:	Well considering it is a 10 gallon tank, and a gallon of water weighs 8.34lbs, it can hold 83.4lbs of water. My current set-up also has 6lbs of substrate, and approximately 1.5lbs of decor, as well as the filter and heater. Hopefully that helps?

Answer:	This is just the tank and it is very expensive I recommend u check out the pet of dollar per gallon sale I got my 10 gallon tank for $10

Answer:	Yes, you can! But be careful as the top is open and they may find a way to escape. It isn't meant for snails, but you can keep them in there if you are careful.
