Question:	Can the impeller be removed to be cleaned, accessing the "brains" of the filter
Answer:	The impeller can be removed and cleaned, but the pump casing is up able to be opened. So I'm not sure what you mean by brains.
Question:	Do you have to fully submerge the filter or can you have the top spout out of the water creating the waterfall affect
Answer:	You can have to spout out. Most of the filter has to be covered by water to make it work.
Question:	Has anyone had issues with opening the Cascade 600? We are having such a hard time depressing the tabs on either side to easily open this up
Answer:	I found the solution! Step 1: Remove the bottom half of the blue canister using the lever in the middle of the blue container. (This part is optional but makes it easier for me.) Step 2: Make sure the black cartridge (which is in the upper part of the blue canister) is all the way down and hasn't shifted to obstruct the top part, where it connects to the black motor head. Step 3: Find the lever on the front between the black and blue parts, and locate the small slit just underneath. Take the flat side of a key and gently push into the slit. The latch will then easily release and you will be able to pull the black and blue pieces apart.
Question:	Can I not use the charcoal and place extra cycled sponge in that space instead

Answer:	I agree with first person's answer. In my 20 years of experience, charcoal is not needed in the hobby outside of removing medications from the water if no longer needed. Other than that, charcoal only helps to mask the problems you are developing in your tank that more regular water changes or more biological filtration can help resolve. Personally, I feel charcoal is a waste of money and I say use that space to add more biological filtration (or mechanical if you don't already have a spot for that) and do more regular water changes.

Answer:	there is a small compartment on the bottom that holds the filter media, they shipped it with just a little sponge but you could probably find small carbon cartridge's to throw in instead if you really wanted, the intake wouldn't be ideal for trying to squeeze both in though Activated carbon can cause Hole in the head and lateral line disease for your fish, but if you really want to include it in your filtration I'd suggest looking into the AquaClear 20 or 30 HOB filters which use a sponge, bio media, and carbon (they are great filters, I use one in my display tank but swapped out the carbon for more bio media) I use this filter as something small to circulate water through my refugium and clean out any junk that ends up getting in, with the added perk of some more oxygen. For the price im very happy with how its performed so far

Answer:	it would. Because the fish has to sleep. Unless you have a bigger tank, it will be sucked in when they fell asleep even if she is strong to swim away while awake. I would cover the water intake with filter mesh or unwanted nylon silk stockings

Question:	Is this low-enough flow for a betta fish in a 5 gal tank? Also, do I need to purchase anything else for this to take care of my tank (air pump, etc
Answer:	I know this is an old question but maybe my answer would help someone else who has this question. Yes, you absolutely can use this filter in a 5 gallon Betta tank. I have one in my 5 gallon right now and it is working great. The different attachments that come with it to help adjust the flow are a spray bar and also there is a little piece that fits on the top if you choose to use it. This is what I did. With this little piece you can turn the flow in most any direction you like. The water comes out in a gentle flow. I love this little filter. And yes, it filters really well. I honestly don't think it would be enough in a 10 gallon. Maybe if you use the spray bar it would. It's still a great little filter. I don't use carbon which is what comes in the filter. I opened up the compartment that contained the carbon, dumped it out and replaced it with my own filter media. It doesn't hold a lot but for a 5 gallon and one Betta it's enough. Another thing I like about this filter is that it doesn't look bad in my tank. Some filters are so ugly. This one because of the way it's made is relatively easy to hide. I recommend it for a Betta tank.

Answer:	Hey The Wake, You could certainly do that. We include a carbon cartridge and a coarse foam sponge because they're two of the most popular filtration mediums. However, if you'd like you can put virtually anything you'd like into the filter. In your case though, the coarse sponge already acts as a biological media, so adding ceramic as well would just provide you with more of the same type of filtration.

Answer:	Mine is laying on the bottom of my tank and i have never had it sitting upright. I can tell you it does pretty well sucking everything up. However, i usually have one spot in the tank, right underneath the filter where debris sits. When I need to water change I just make sure I get the debris out with a fish net. That seems to work pretty well. It is the best filter I have had so far (with a turtle that has killed 4 filters), just make sure to clean the motor fan with every water change or filter media change.

Answer:	Yes it can, in the center of the filter there a removeable plastic cage. I put a small Chemi Pure bag in it. But I didn't care for this filter and not cause it didn't work. But I was wanting something more as a skimmer type filter and I wasn't getting enough flow out this filter unit. But it did work, if your running this on a smaller tank say no 30 gal freshwater ok. I was running it on a 29 gal reef tank with lots of live rock and it couldn't push enough water around it. But it did filter the water good.

Answer:	Thanks for your question. Yes, you can use any filter media you like. Keep in mind that this is an exceptionally small filter made for aquariums 5 gallons and under. There isn't a ton of room for custom media. But, bulk sponge or media cubes will be perfect for this filter. Bio balls may be a bit too large.

Answer:	Yes. It actually has a pretty powerful pump/flow that's adjustable. 2gallons is tiny. Full flow would literally make a whirlpool in the tank if not adjusted properly.

Answer:	I have this filter in a 5 gallon tank with a black phantom tetra and a corey cat. The little blue switch on the top of the filter adjusts the flow. Forward is a slower flow, backward is a stronger flow. On the Cascade 300, the current is still pretty strong, but you can slow down the effect with either the spray nozzle or flow nozzle that comes with the filter. Keeping either nozzle out of the water will help reduce the strength of current in the tank. With mine, I use the spray nozzle aimed against the wall. The current on that one side of the wall is really strong but it's slower in the rest of the tank. My old filter had a really slow current so my fish had to get used to this stronger one, but it strengthened their swimming I think. But I know bettas don't like strong currents. Hope you find something that works!
Question:	Should the filter be bubbling? I have the 170 and it was blowing bubbles when I first installed it and now it's not

60ppi Fine sponges- home for nitrobacteri

The sponge we used is very fine, with ultra strong water absorption, will give much more surface area for beneficial bacteri to live on. Nitrobacteri must be attached to a fixed surface to form a biological layer before nitrogen cycle can take place.

2 spare sponges

The package includes 2 spare sponges. Please note when you take them out of containers, they may look badly packed and out of shape, don't worry, just put them aside, the sponges will gradually get back to they original shape, or you can submerge them in water to help that.

How long should I replace the sponge?

Replace the sponge once every three to six month or when the sponge gets worn out. It's better to replace them one by one, interval could be 2 week or more.

Water outlet adjustable

The air water outlet tube is telescopic, can be adjusted above the water line or below, and it's 360 degree rotatable.

When water outlet is under water, it will add more air into water and make small water flow, bubbles will come out into water, just like the air stone does.

When the outlet is above waterline, a small stream of water will come out from the tube, may make some water noise.

Directions for use

1. For new tank, your water might be cycling. Don't add a lot of fish right away and wait it out.
2. An established tank (been up and running with fish in it for at least a month or two) running your old filter along with the this one until it has a chance to have beneficial bacteri.
3. Before place the midea balls into the containers, please wash the balls with clean water. And wash the sponges before using.
4. Need an aquarium air pump and airline hose (4mm) to run this filter.

Cleaning method

1. Clean one of the two sponges once a month or so. You can remove the sponge to clean or replace it. It slides off easily when you pull up on it.
2. Wash the filter with aquarium water, don’t use the tap water, or it may destroy the healthy bacteri recycle.
3. Rinse and squeeze repetitively at least 5 to 10 times till you see no more dirty water coming out of the sponge. Repeat for 2 to 3 more days till aquarium has crystal clear water.
