Answer:	The chicken variety is 366 calories per cup. A good size cat will eat ½ to 1 cup per day. Perhaps 200-300 calories on average. I would recommend a high protein/low carb food instead for feline weight loss. My cats seem to find high protein foods more satisfying but eat less of it overall. Physiologically, cats can't lose weight quickly in a safe manner, so it's probably best to make small reductions and weigh him frequently, then readjust.

One of the reasons I feed my cat ONLY Hill's Science diet foods is because Hill's is so open about their manufacturing process. Two of the vets from our vet clinic went to the Hill's manufacturing facility in Kansas, to view the entire process. They came back from their trip quite impressed with the cleanliness of the plant, along with the strong commitment to the quality of the product. The day the two vets went thru, Hill's was making and canning their grain free product. The entire line was shut down to change over to the grain free; cleaning, steaming, etc. all the machines and components of the production process to ensure no contamination from the previous product that had been made. At any rate, my cat LOVES her food - she gobbles it down in no time, and sometimes gets the hiccups from eating it so fast! About 1 cup per Cat and 1/2 cup to 1/4 a cup for a kitten that is eating. Add anywhere from1 to 3 cups of warm tap water, homemade cat/dog broth (save your bones, you can freeze and make this very easy, recipes can come from online or your Vet's office). Mix thoroughly, allow the dry to soak in about 15-20 minutes and Serve! Once a month it's 1 Cup Warm Water, 1/2 Cup Milk, and 1 egg - mix with 1 Cup Dry. Allow to soak for 15-20 minutes and Serve! Remember, after they've eaten their fill; dispose food and wash bowl!
