He is 1/2 pug and 1/2 Boston Terrier, still walks and has been on this dog food for years and years. I'm more concerned about the fact that it is organic, without glyphosate, then the amount of salt. I'm a Nurse and unless a dog or human has CHF or a disease where he cannot have salt, I don't worry about that ingredient, as NaCl is a necessary part of a balanced diet.

Answer:	The green can with chicken and peas has a gravy as does the orange can with chicken wing and thigh (or something like that) although FYI the orange can has 2-3 bones in it. They are pressure cooked so they are perfectly ok for your pets to eat (says so on the can) but I've seen some people that didn't see that message and freak out over the bones. Mine love the bones and I've never had any problems but if you prefer no bones try the chicken and pea recipe in the green label :)

Although they allege they are continuing same processing, same management of organic food, many people object to Purina and do not want the food any longer. We are still using Organix as our older dog does well but for any new dogs in our life I will not purchase Purina products.

Purina proclaims it will continue to be made in an Organic Procedure Kitchen, likely they bought the factory and kept the employees. They in it to make big money. At least this is my HOPE. The product is certainly EXPENSIVE enough to be carefully and responsively produced. Best good my dog has ever eaten. He is a senior and loved this food instantly. No more itchy skin ever since he was taken off Purina Chow as an infant, and put on Castor and Pollux Organic recipes. His coat has never been better. I feed him the canned Castor & Pollux foods also, but NOT the chicken thigh and wing..because it has dangerous shards of cooked bones! Hopefully PURINA will discontinue that dangerous product.

Can ZIWI Peak be fed as a topper or mixed with another food? There’s no wrong way to feed ZIWI, it works great as a complete meal or as a topper for a nutritional boost on your existing food.

Why is there sometimes variability in my ZIWI Peak food? ZIWI Peak uses natural ingredients, handcrafted in small batches, featuring high inclusions of meat and organs and excludes artificial fillers, dyes and preservatives. This, in combination other natural factors such as age and seasonality of the ingredients we use, often results in variability of shape, size, color, texture and odor. This variation is perfectly normal and is an indicator as to how natural the food really is!

How do I transition my dog to Ziwi? ZIWI Peak is nutrient dense. A little goes a long way, don’t be surprised if you feed less! Introduce a new recipe slowly over 6-8 days, gradually increasing the amount of the new recipe while decreasing the old, until you are fully transitioned. Please refer to our transition guide on the packaging.

Can I rotate my dog through different Ziwi recipes? We recommend a gradual transition between proteins, to minimize the potential for digestive upset. Please refer to our transition guide on the packaging.

Answer:	Actually I don’t know. When I order a 20 lb bag it arrives 2 days later and I put it in a large plastic tub I bought that can be sealed tight to maintain freshness. I haven’t had any issues with spoilage or contamination.
Question:	What's the calorie content of one 5 oz. serving
Answer:	Hi Herb! There are 366 Calories per cup of v-dog kibble, so there is about 229 calories in a 5oz (.625 cup) serving.
Question:	Is this suitable for puppies
Answer:	I am no nutritionist but it is my understanding that both protein and fat are important for puppies. Most puppy foods contain 30+% protein. Some as much as 40%. M Shelly in the comments here suggested that too much protein can be harmful. I will strike a balance by adding pure pea protein powder to my pup's food raising the protein content to 30%. I also add some olive oil to his food. This has made his fur shiny and he lost his lint.
Question:	Your label says No GMOs. But my understanding is that virtually all canola oil is now GMO. I'd feel a lot better if you had certified non-GMO label
