Answer:	I guess that depends on who/what is doing the chewing! The cord is spiral wrapped with a fairly thick wire which should prevent most animals from being able to cause any damage. My chickens don't have much for teeth though, so I couldn't say for certain how it would hold up to a horse or cow.

Answer:	I was very disappointed in this product. I purchased it because I was going to be away for an extended period. The product arrived late and my pet sitter opened it to use. The packaging was destroyed so I couldn't return it. I live in Wyoming but we did not have sub zero temperatures and the water was always frozen, not solid but enough the dogs wouldn't drink it. I was very disappointed.

Answer:	The thermostat control & heating element is in the bottom 1" of the bucket. It seems to work well to keep the water in the bucket unfrozen. We've have temps as low as -15 F this year and the water never froze over; it did ice up around the top lip of the bucket though. The only problem I've had is with the nipple system I use for my chickens- the water will freeze right at the nipple itself when it gets below about 15 F, which of course prevents the chickens from getting any water. Luckily we don't get too many days where it doesn't get above 15 degrees for at least part of the day.

Answer:	If you pull them apart, you can stick a tiny piece of something, i used a slice of a wine cork, into the spring and then put it back together, it will work flawlessly!!

Answer:	Yes, but it will depend on the ambient temperature around that jug, and the ambient temperature would need to be held at an exact point, as this water warmer does not have a thermostat for temperature maintaining. We have not tested what you are proposing: but by our estimates if the ambient temperature is somewhere between 30f and 60f we think it will raise 1 gallon of water to around 98f. This warmer was designed to keep water from freezing at temperatures below 40f, although it may work for your application as well.
