Question:	how does this house stand up to wind,rain,snow? any suggestions what to do
Answer:	I would suggest only using this in a protected area (away from heavy rain/wind) as it is rather light in weight. We have it on a covered porch and our feral cats (2-3 at a time) curl up inside it.

Answer:	Yes they are clear plastic. I haven't used mine as they are not in the wind. I like the two opening because it makes my cats feel safer as having an escape route if necessary.

Answer:	Maybe a typical thin blue tarp to keep the wind out. There's not a lot of support, it folds up on itself in one piece. You might be able to put this in some sort of container if you want to try that. I didn't have to worry about the wind because we have it in the garage.
Question:	Can it be left on for long periods of time
Answer:	We've left one on for an entire winter- no problem!

Why doesn't my K&H bed warm up?

K&H beds do not feel warm to the touch most of the time, this is normal. In order for the bed to feel warm there must be something lying in the bed.

How do I test my bed to see if it working?

You can test any K&H heated bed by placing a pillow on top of the sleeping surface. After about 20 minutes feel under the pillow, it will be nice and warm. This is what your pet feels when he/she lies on a K&H bed.

Do's and Don'ts

Do leave the bed plugged in all the time unless you are leaving your home for an extended vacation.

Question:	Does this bed flex or bend in anyway. I need to slip it through a doorway I created in my homemade cat house
Answer:	Hi Debbie. The answer is yes. Mine has been plugged in for 3 years now and I did not see any appreciable increase in my electric bill the first few months I used it. (I have an extra on stand-by when this one finally gives out) Also, when the pet is not on the mat the temperature decreases to very low only to be increased to 102 or so degrees with the pressure of the pet when it returns. This is the best and my outside kitties have spent many freezing nights in their warm box with the mat on which to sleep. Initially these were feral cats which allowed me to care for them from a safe distance. Loved the opportunity to domesticate them. And I also had a mat for my inside kitty as well who loved her bed just as much as the outside critters. I think this was the best purchase I've made for a pet. Wish I'd known about it when my other kitties were still alive. I'm sure a pup would appreciate this mat as well as any older animal. Can't praise this product enough!

Answer:	I've had these for 2 years. They heat constantly, but it's pretty subtle unless you compress the insulation. I think they heat to roughly 104°F, so it's mild compared to a medical heating pad. My old housecat has definitely figured out that it's warm, though.

Answer:	Approximately 4 inches off the ground. Just enough to keep water out and allow the inside to dry if a wet animal gets in. Rain stays out but it's also well ventilated because of the 4 inches underneath, and the removable floor boards. Top easily lifts for cleaning purposes. Can also apply a plastic flap (like a doggy door) to keep the heat in when it's cold inside. Nice..and spells nicely of cedar!

Question:	Does the wall/roof insulate the heat well
Answer:	The shelter has a flexible inner insulating layer, between 1/4 and 1/2 inch thick, covered with fabric. The only openings are the door, which comes with a removable plastic cover the cat can push in/out for access, and a small hole in the rear for the warming pad electrical cord to exit. The rear half of the pad has a water-proof warmer; the front half doesn't. The pad produces mild warmth when powered, but nothing like a home heating pad. So I feel comfortable that it protects the outdoor cat that adopted us against wind, blowing rain, and mild winter temperatures. We live in Texas, and our shelter is on a bench on a covered porch. So our winters are mild and the location is somewhat sheltered. If I lived in the northern US with long, frigid winters, or the shelter were more exposed to the elements, I'd definitely want something with more protection and a warmer heat source.
Question:	How long is the cord
Answer:	The cord on the heating pad extends approximately 69 inches from the heating pad. Another couple of inches is probably lost in getting it out of the cat shelter which would give it an effective length of about five and a half feet (5' 6")

Answer:	According to the manufactures website, it is 24/7. It takes about an hour to 2 to heat up to 102 deg and stays there. There is a heated side and a non-heated side.
Question:	Is this house water proof
Answer:	I would not consider this shelter as being waterproof. I believe the fabric itself may shed water but the zipper would probably admit water. I'm quite sure the bottom would admit standing water along the zippered seams. We used this shelter in a semi-protected space (small porch) and enclosed all but the opening with a black plastic bag. Not esthetic but effective. We have found homes for three of the lovely kittens born in it 55 days ago and Mom is scheduled to be spayed on July 1st.

Answer:	The Thermo-Kitty Mat is for indoor use only. meaning it should be used in temperatures of at least 60 degrees. For outdoor use, you would want to look at either the K&H Lectro-Soft Outdoor Heat Bed (which comes in 3 sizes) or the Lectro-Kennel(also available in 3 sizes). Question:	can we use an extension cord with this
Answer:	Using extension cords is basically safe. Those official warnings against using extension cords are legal boilerplate that theoretically protects manufacturers from lawsuits if something goes wrong, from both user misuse and manufacturing defects. When not overloaded with high wattage equipment, modern electrical circuits are designed to operate safely using extension cords (think of old fashioned lightbulbs rated at 100 watts as lower than normal usage since one circuit can handle several such lightbulbs running 24/7). Aside from overload, the true safety issues arise from pets and children chewing (as well as humans tripping & falling), causing partial exposure and/or breakage of prongs and wiring that might come into contact with flamable material, or electrocute a living being. If the metal remains covered and intact, it's basically safe. But if ~any~ cord or plug has become permanently bent or kinked, it's wise to replace it (including the entire appliance if its the built-in cord that's damaged). Even if the extension cord gets warm during use, it is safe (however, HOT cords indicate a problem either with too many appliances or from a defective cord or appliance, and steps should be taken to determine which it is so the issue can be addressed). Even if a circuit gets overloaded, circuit breakers are designed to "break" the flow of electricity before it does any damage. Answer:	The brilliant feature of this kitty mat is that it is pressure sensitive. Keep the mat plugged in all the time. Any weight will activate the heat and it will turn off when nothing is on it.

Answer:	Yes, it should be. I have one of those type of rescues also who refuses to become an indoor cat. I have 2 heated mats for him. One is a softshell mat that wraps the inside of his hooded bed and a second that is a hard thermo mat which is on top of a carpeted mat infront of one of the garage window sills. I also have a propane gas heater that keeps the garage a steady comfortable temperature. To answer your question though it will be safe. If your garage is not heated, I would recommend covering the mat with at least a cardboard box to keep her warmth around her whold body. Otherwise she will get cold, especially if she is wet, try to dry her with a towel. And a large towel over the cardboard box might help retain the heat in the box. Answer:	I don't know. We have coyotes around but they typically come out at night and I don't know if the decoy impacts their behavior. I do know it is also used by hunters, when they place a scent on the back foot, to attract them. Overall, however, it has not been an issue for us. Geese and deer tend to stay away.

Answer:	Not sure about getting your money back, but I bought this in January and it has kept the geese away. I used to have close to 100 a day and now not even 1. So real it even scared my neighbors away! I'm a believer!

Answer:	I use this only to scare raptors...however, we have both wild and domestic turkeys and they don't even look at it. I would probably use a human scarecrow of sorts instead.

Question:	Can the sides be trimmed to fit my custom opening
Answer:	The replacement flap has 17" hight and 9-3/4" width. It was perfectly fit to my doggy door. It may need a bit extra opening to the width of the flap to the plastic case. I don't suprise even the gap is 3/8" to each side. Did you measure the plastic inside to inside width? If, it is the case, this part will fit.
Question:	Our door has two flaps. On the flap it says Ruff Weather 17" x 10 1/2" . I can't find that size replacement
Answer:	I ordered in two this month. One was tinted, and one was clear. No explanation. I've reordered these several times, and they have always been clear btw.

Answer:	No, the K&H Original Lectro-Kennel Outdoor Heated Pad is an electrical product that needs to be plugged into a normal 110v outlet.
Question:	Can the heating pad be placed under a dog house? It is a plastic dog house. Very sturdy but not heavy that sits on concrete outside
Answer:	No, it should not be covered with anything other than the K&H cover. Even a blanket is not recommended. I do not think the heat will go through a dog house. However, if you mean inside the dog house that is perfectly acceptable. It should never be submerged in water so the inside of the dog house should be dry at all times.
Question:	Is it safe to use this with an outdoor extension cord
Answer:	All of our Lectro Kennel pads are plugged into outdoor, heavy duty, cold-weather rated, extension cords and have been for 2+ years. The connections need protection from the the weather. This size pad is only 40 watts, it doesn't concern me at all using a 50 foot extension cord.
Question:	wonder will this work for my cat givin he doesn't weigh much? and does it heat all the time or is it pressure senitive
Answer:	I used 3 of these for my outside dogs in the winter in their Dog Houses.I have a timer on them to come on after 6pm till 9am.I don't think they are pressure senitive.They love them.

How to test your Lectro-Kennel

You'll notice that the K&H Lectro-Kennel may not feel warm to the touch when your pet is not on the pad. That is normal!! You can test the pad by placing a large pillow on top of the pad. After about 20 minutes, feel under the pillow. It will feel warm, not hot. Do not use an extension cord and do not place anything on the pad (other than the fleece cover provided) during testing.

Question:	This vs. The triangular Shaped house/Tent looking house? Which provides more heat during the winter days and nights
Answer:	The Heated K&H Outdoor Kitty House would be the more sturdy of the two and provide sufficient heat. It has an excellent thick heating pad you put inside which is very cushionyyy. I took off the plastic on both sides since the movement of the plastic seemed to scare the feral cats away. Heating pad is warm for them and works with the heat of their own bodies. Keep this out of the rain and wind. Garage would be perfect if for a feral cat, otherwise place it where it wont get wet and battered by wind and where dogs cant get to the cats. I bought this for our feral cat we have had since a kitten when her mother put her up on our wall and left her there. We took her in and kept her in our garage and she has always remained very warm, and that was 2 years ago. She roams the neighborhood but always comes back at night for food and her house.
Question:	Why can't you use this with a commercial extension cord? This would almost be a must for most cases (no one usually has a plug near by
Answer:	I have two of these houses plus a home made one in the front of my house under my eaves...Unfortunately, I don't have an outdoor plug nearby so I bought a heavy duty outdoor extension plug with a three plug coupler and plugged the three in, ran the extension cord under the eaves of my house up off the ground and into my garage...plug connections are covered to avoid getting wet and this is the third year I've used them without incident
Question:	Could this be used indoors? My cat is eldery and this would help this winter
Answer:	This is very late, I realize since the question was asked 4 years + ago, but I just have to add - if you have senior cats and it gets cold where you live? Please bring them inside. *Before anyone yells at me, I do know that some kitties refuse to come in a house. I have cared for feral cats and cats that are fully socialized with humans & I know they each have a unique personality complete with "quirks" - in which case this house could be awesome! We always just have a box with a towel and sometimes a heating pad with a timer for the ones who won't come in. But if at all possible,bring those kitties in :)

Answer:	I have 3 k&h heated cat houses of which I’ve run for almost 6 mos a year, for 3 yrs now. I am an electrician. As long as it is plugged in it is using power. The power these use are so minimal, they’re not much different than running 4-5 LED lights. No extra money at all. I am retired, now. I’d be screaming at the cats, “quit going in & out those doors, you little punks.”

Question:	Where can i purchase the t corner pieces
Answer:	It would probably be better than nothing for a short period of time outdoors, like 1/2 hour. The canopy hooks onto the legs which means all four sides are not connected to the canopy. The base of the cot is more suited for warm weather because it has a screen like bottom so air can flow through. I believe this outdoor pet bed and shelter is more suited for summer where an animal can be protected from the sun.

Answer:	yes you can cut it to fit most any dog house

Answer:	They don't overlap, but the material is a very stiff plastic, so there's minimal wind leakage. I bought to use for my 12-pound dog, but she wasn't strong enough (or just too lazy) to push through the plastic flaps. I think it would be great for a larger or stronger dog.

Answer:	They do not overlap but sit side by side with virtually no space between them. The plastic is flexible but firm and it becomes quite stiff the colder it gets. It will relax as it warms up. In wind these flaps don't blow around. Just flexible enough for your pet to push through it.
