I really would not recommend it for a pet larger than my pets measurements, but anything around this size or smaller this could be the most perfect bag that allows for free hands for when traveling and feel secure having my pooch near me. I like having his weight distributed w a backpack style bag instead of the one shoulder ones which I too have and those other ones end up hurting my neck, back or arm after a lil' while.

Answer:	If you are willing to hold on your back yes. My 9lb kitty got a bit heavy for me. The backpack material is very durable.

Answer:	No. I don't recommend it unless the are more like 3-4lbs. It's not very wide. But one 5lb dog will fit.

Answer:	It should laying down yes. The base comes out for cleaning so if it was too wide you could remove that and it might fit better if needed.
