13 best roundworm treatment for cats
Roundworm treatment for cats is an important aspect of feline health care, especially when it comes to maintaining their overall well-being.Roundworms are a common intestinal parasite in cats, and they can cause various health issues if left untreated. Here are some key points related to roundworm treatment for cats:
Symptoms: Cats with roundworm infections may exhibit symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, a bloated abdomen, and a dull coat. Sometimes, you may even see worms in the cat's feces or around the anus.
Consult a Veterinarian: If you suspect that your cat has roundworms or if you notice any of the above-mentioned symptoms, it's crucial to consult a veterinarian. A vet can confirm the diagnosis through fecal testing.
Prescription Medications: The most common treatment for roundworms in cats involves deworming medications prescribed by a veterinarian. These medications are usually administered orally and are effective at eliminating the parasites.
Follow Dosage Instructions: It's important to follow the dosage instructions provided by your vet carefully. Typically, a follow-up visit may be necessary to ensure that the roundworms have been successfully eradicated.
Preventative Measures: To prevent future roundworm infestations, regular deworming as recommended by your veterinarian is important. Additionally, keeping your cat's living area clean and preventing them from hunting or eating infected rodents can help reduce the risk of reinfection.
Environmental Cleaning: Cleaning your cat's litter box regularly and practicing good hygiene by washing your hands after handling your cat or cleaning the litter box can also help prevent the spread of roundworms.
Regular Vet Check-ups: Regular veterinary check-ups are essential for your cat's overall health. Your vet can check for signs of parasites and other health issues during these visits.
Other Health Supplies: Besides roundworm treatment, you may also want to consider other health supplies for your cat, such as flea and tick prevention, dental care products, and high-quality cat food to support their overall well-being.

It's essential to treat roundworm infections in cats to ensure their overall health and well-being. Here is information about roundworm treatment related to hip joint care, health supplies, cats, and pet supplies:
Anti-Parasitic Medications:
- Anthelminthic medications are commonly used to treat roundworm infections in cats. These medications are available in various forms such as tablets, liquids, or topical treatments.
- Medications like pyrantel pamoate, fenbendazole, and milbemycin oxime are often used to treat roundworms in cats. These drugs work by disrupting the roundworms' nervous system or metabolism, ultimately leading to their elimination from the cat's body.
Administering Medication:
- The appropriate dosage of the anti-parasitic medication is calculated based on the cat's weight. It's crucial to follow the vet's instructions regarding dosage and administration.
- Medications can be administered orally or applied topically, depending on the specific product. Follow the instructions carefully to ensure the treatment's effectiveness.
Regular Veterinary Check-ups:
- Regular check-ups with a veterinarian are important to monitor the cat's progress during treatment and determine if additional rounds of medication are necessary.
- If a cat has a severe roundworm infestation or is experiencing health issues related to the infestation, more extensive treatment and follow-up care may be required.

- While roundworm treatment primarily focuses on eliminating the parasitic infection, maintaining overall health, including hip joint health, is important for a cat's well-being.
- Some pet supplies and health supplements may contain ingredients like glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate that support joint health. These supplements can be considered as part of a holistic approach to cat care, especially for senior cats or those with joint issues.
Preventive Measures:
- Regular deworming of cats, especially kittens, is crucial for preventing roundworm infections.Kittens should be dewormed starting at a young age, following a schedule recommended by a veterinarian.

Always consult with a veterinarian for specific advice and guidance regarding roundworm treatment, hip joint care, and health supplies for your cat. Veterinarians can tailor treatments to the individual needs of the cat and provide the most appropriate recommendations for their health and well-being.
Below you can find our editor's choice of the best roundworm treatment for cats on the marketTreatment for roundworms in cats typically involves deworming medications that are available through a veterinarian or over-the-counter pet supplies. Roundworms are a common intestinal parasite in cats, and they can sometimes affect a cat's overall health, including their hip joints if the infestation is severe or prolonged. Here are some key points about roundworm treatment for cats:
Deworming Medications: Deworming medications are designed to kill and eliminate roundworms from a cat's digestive tract. These medications come in various forms, including oral tablets, liquids, or topical treatments. Some common dewormers for cats include pyrantel pamoate, fenbendazole, and praziquantel. The choice of medication may depend on the cat's age, weight, and overall health.

It's essential to consult with a veterinarian to determine the most suitable treatment for your cat, especially if you're unsure about the severity of the infestation.
Dosage and Administration: Follow the dosing instructions provided with the medication carefully. Typically, deworming medications are administered for a specific number of days or in a single dose. Make sure your cat receives the full course of treatment to ensure all the roundworms are eliminated.
Preventive Measures: In addition to treatment, it's crucial to take preventive measures to protect your cat from future roundworm infestations. Keeping your cat on a regular deworming schedule as recommended by your veterinarian can help prevent reinfestation. Additionally, practicing good hygiene, such as cleaning the litter box regularly and disposing of feces properly, can reduce the risk of roundworm transmission.
Monitoring Your Cat's Health: After treatment, monitor your cat for any signs of roundworm recurrence, such as vomiting, diarrhea, or a distended abdomen. If you notice any concerning symptoms, contact your veterinarian for further evaluation.
Overall Health Care: Maintaining your cat's overall health, including hip joint care, is essential.Feeding a balanced diet, providing regular exercise, and ensuring your cat has a comfortable and safe environment can contribute to their overall well-being.
Remember that while some deworming medications are available over-the-counter, it's always a good practice to consult with a veterinarian for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan tailored to your cat's specific needs. Product description
If your cat has had fleas, there’s a chance they have tapeworms too. Tapeworm segments look similar to grains of white rice and are visible when stuck in your cat’s hair under the tail or by the back legs or in their poop. It’s not always obvious that your cat has tapeworms, so the best way to identify a problem is through an exam performed by a veterinarian. Use Bayer Tapeworm Dewormer for Cats to treat your pet. Cats' everyday grooming behavior puts them at risk for ingesting fleas, which means a risk of tapeworms. Fleas can carry immature tapeworms, and they are the main source of tapeworm infections in cats. A cat that has been infested by fleas may develop tapeworms. Outdoor cats that hunt small rodents may be at risk of infection from tapeworms as well. In addition to treating with tapeworm dewormer, take steps to control fleas and rodents on the premises in order to prevent reinfection; Otherwise another round of the tapeworm dewormer for cats will be necessary. This is especially true in cases of tapeworms transmitted by fleas where reinfection is almost certain to occur if fleas are not removed from the animal and its environment. Consult your veterinarian for assistance in the diagnosis, treatment and control of parasitism. Keep away from children.

User questions & answers
Question: | Do the bottles not come with a protective seal on them |
Answer: | The bottle that comes from Chewy's has a protective metal seal under the cap. If it does not have a seal, beware. I ordered a bottle from Amazon and will get it tomorrow 11/25/2019. I will update if it does not have a seal. |
Question: | I have 2 cats do I have to buy a bottle for each |
Answer: | There are 3 tablets in a bottle. 1/2 tablet for 4 lb or under cat, 1 tablet for 5-11 lb cat, and over 11 lbs 1 & 1/2 tablet. So it depends on the weight of your cats. My cat is medium-small, so I gave him 1. |
Question: | How quickly does this kill the tapeworms |
Answer: | Very quickly but it's recommended by my vet to do a second dose 2 weeks later. I have no problems administering pills/capsules of anything if I use, depending on the kitty's preference, chicken, fish, or BACON (most seem to truly love bacon flavor) flavored pill wraps (available as a paste on Amazon!). |
Question: | my cat refuses to eat food with the crushed pill, it tastes bad to her. How do you get the pill in her |
Answer: | MY cat WILL NOT eat his food if pills are crushed in them. He can taste it.. I used to have the WORST time trying to get my stubborn kitty to swallow a pill. It would take me a minimum of an hour (..and numerous scratches) to get a SINGLE pill down his throat ... **UNTIL I watched a YouTube tutorial on how to administer a pill to a cat.. after watching I thought "this will never work with MY cat..", but I tried anyway way and I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT.. It was like a miracle! I got him to take the pill in like 10 seconds! I can TRY to explain it to you, but it's SO MUCH easier if you just watch ther tutorial video of them actually doing it.. 1. place your cat in front of you, cuz they tend to back up to avoid it. 2. Put your finger in btwn their back teeth to enforce them to open their mouth 3. Put a little wet food on the pill so it'll slide down easier 4. Put the pill in the back of their throat & IMMEDIATELY close their mouth, pointing their nose to the ceiling WHILE rubbing their throat in a downward motion.. WATCH THE VIDEOS.. They saved me so much time & energy attempting to administer the pills..(not to mention all the scratches & bites.. lol) Good luck! |

FRONTLINE Plus Flea and Tick Treatment for Cats
Made with two tough ingredients, FRONTLINE Plus helps you rid your pet of fleas and ticks, and prevent further infestations.
The first, fipronil, attacks adult fleas and ticks. The second, (S)-methoprene, attacks flea eggs and larvae. They work together to exterminate all month long.
FRONTLINE Plus also breaks the flea life cycle by destroying the next generation of flea eggs and larvae—giving you the power to help prevent a flea infestation on your pet.
Because it stores in the sebaceous glands in the skin, it constantly replenishes the protection for 30 days, working even if your pet gets wet.
Break the Flea Life Cycle
Flea infestations start with just two fleas laying hundreds of flea eggs within a matter of days. FRONTLINE Plus prevents an infestation by not only exterminating adult fleas—which comprise only 5% of the total flea population—but also by destroying flea eggs and larvae too.

User questions & answers
Question: | Are there any other ingredients beside the fenbendazole |
Answer: | Yes, there are some inactive ingredients. So that we can answer any other questions you have about the product please contact us at [email protected]. |
Question: | What are the active ingredients |
Answer: | The Active Ingredients listed on the box in each dosage unit: Fenbendazole Granules 22.2% (222 mg/g). Safe-guard Canine Dewormer is for use only in dogs, 6 weeks or older for the treatment and control of: Tapeworms, Roundworms, Hookworms and Whipworms. There are 3 packets in the box. You would give your dog one packet each night for three nights in a row. It is very palatable and many people will add some canned food to a small portion of dry food. We have seen very little resistance to this method of worming and it is very effective. Please let us know if we may answer any more of your questions. Thank you for your inquiry. |
Question: | My dog weighs 50 lbs. Will this work for her |
Answer: | See the 2nd pic above: you need a 4g dose, plus a 1g dose for a 50lb dog. Basically, it's 1g per 10lbs of dog. You can either buy a combination of 4g, 2g, & 1g boxes, or just 4g boxes and measure it out. |
Question: | Can this be used as a preventative |
Answer: | There is not really a worm preventative; even so-called heartworm preventatives work by killing heartworm larvae that are already present in the animal, before they have a chance to develop into adults. (It takes about 2-4 months before heartworm larvae mature and migrate to the heart.) By the same token, worming on a regular basis with a broad spectrum wormer, such as Safe-Guard or Panacur (fenbendazole), or Strongid (pyrantel pamoate), kills a wide spectrum of worms, whether they are in larval or adult stages. (These are also also the same thing as the paste wormers of the same name for horses). These are all very mild, yet effective wormers. Depending on your dogs' (or cats' as these are the same wormers used for them with different dosages) potential exposure to the eggs/larvae, which are typically passed on through feces and stay viable/active in the environment for a fairly long time, you should work up a schedule, either monthly, every other month, or at least twice a year. (Heartworms are passed on through bites by infected mosquitos, with any mammal, like a bird, raccoon or other pet acting as a host). NONE of these wormers kill the type of tape worm that typically infests dogs, cats and humans. (The type mentioned on this package is typically hosted by rabbits.) The only thing that kills tapeworms is praziquantel (brand name Droncit or Cestex). Not even ivermectin, a very powerful wormer that kills a wide variety or worms, including heartworms, (none of these other products do that either), kills tapes. (This is also why you must test dogs before giving high dose ivermectin, as if there are by chance heartworms lodged in the heart, it can kill the dog along with the worm.) Eggs of worms are generally passed on through stool, although tapeworm eggs/segments are shed through the rectum, and look like rice. They are also passed on through infected fleas, that carry the larvae and pass it on when the infected flea is swallowed (not by a flea bite). Also you should rotate the broad spectrum wormers to avoid building drug-resistant parasite populations. Although praziquantel kills tapes by dissolving their outer membrane, so they are then absorbed by the body, the other wormers often just paralyze the worms until they pass through the intestines, making it very important to dispose of the pets' poop afterward to avoid reinfestation (really need to do that anyway). Just for your knowledge, hookworms can be passed on through bare skin, so think twice next time you want to go barefoot in the park. The good news is that all of these products that are marketed for dogs, cats and horses are the exact same ones that are prescribed by MDs for their two legged friends. (Not that I'm advising you to take them without a physician's recommendation, naturally.) So you need to have a plan to worm with different products for different categories of parasites during the year, although not with the same frequency. It takes awhile for larvae to grow into an adult tape, for example, so once treated, you could do praziquantel probably once or twice a year. I'd suggest no less than every 3-4 months for febendazole or pyrantel pamoate and of course heartworm medication should be given monthly or daily (depending on the product) if you have mosquitoes. I'm no expert by any means, just sharing my experiences of breeding and showing dogs, cats and horses for over 40 years. Always do your own research if you have any doubts about dosages or products. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this 6 month supply a 6 pack of tubes |
Answer: | Hi Doreen... Actually, I bought the 4 pack because I have four cats. I had earlier in the month bought a 4 pack someplace else, so I had two treatments for each cat. I did the treatments three weeks apart (the instructions say it is OK to do if you wait seven days). I bought the 9+ lb. package as three of the cats are well over that weight. One cat is a bit smaller and I didn't use quite all of the tube on her. None of the cats had any bad reactions, and it worked well for three of them. The other cat (partial Maine Coon) had some results, but not so good. |
Question: | Does this kill ticks? If not, what do people recommend for ticks |
Answer: | To get rid of fleas and ticks use Frontline Plus. I started to use it on mine a year ago it killed the ticks and fleas. I reapply it every other month and I haven’t seen one since. |
Question: | When using this medicine, do I also need to flea bomb or spray the apartment ? Or will the medicine kill all fleas in the apartment, as well |
Answer: | VACUUM EVERY DAY. Or at least every other day. You will NEVER get rid of all the fleas if you don't treat the environment as well as the animal(s). In addition to the Advantage II, I used Knockout spray and also shampooed my cat. She has now had two doses of the Advantage and I have been spraying and vacuuming every other day and I finally feel like I have the upper hand! Even when you think they are gone, keep treating your cat and house. All it takes is one flea to start an infestation. |
Question: | Why is the item called "Bayer K9 Advantix II Flea and Tick Control Treatment for Cats"? The Bayer K9 is, of course, for dogs |
Answer: | Please be sure to use ONLY Feline Advantage on cats and use ONLY the dog Advantage on dogs! The use of canine Advantage on cats WILL kill them giving them severe neurological damage! I wish that Advantage would make the packaging TOTALLY different for cats and dogs, it would help. Especially with people who may not see the difference at first glance. My elderly mom accidentally applied the large dog Advantage to her cat and it had to be put down. Mom has felt horrible about it. Awful experience. Also about dosing, I have a 19 year old cat and I have used feline Advantage on him every summer for about 3 months for well over 17 years. It works wonderfully for him. I have always used the large cat product but since he has lost some weight this year I called Bayer and asked if I should use a smaller dose. The person at Bayer explained that Advantage works on body AREA as well as weight. So even though my cat has lost some weight (he's 9 pounds) his body AREA is still the same (loose skin) and so I have been applying the large cat dose and it has worked well for him this summer with no ill effects. I cannot speak to the authenticity of this Amazon product as I purchase my Advantage from the local pet store. |

Question: | Is this the same as" Drontal Plus" that you get from the vet |
Answer: | Compare the ingredients, the amounts and you will know. |
Question: | Cada cuando se administra este producto cada mes ?? O cada 4 meses |
Answer: | Cada mes |
Question: | How offten do i give it to my dog ?once a month ? Once every 6 months |
Answer: | I'm not a vet yet have had experience and studied parasites. My dog was bloated stool very odd looking went to vet he gave him meds. Did not help. There are so many different parasites I chose this one because it has several different meds for many different parasites. I gave it to my dog 3 days in a row then again in 2 wks for any eggs that hatched. Parasites are epidemic in US. Personally I will give my dog every 3 to 6 months. I also put grated fresh carrots and raw pumpkin seeds in his food which are great anti parasitic foods. Hope this helps. Stay safe. |
Question: | would this work on a german shepherd puppy |
Answer: | Since it is a puppy, I think you should consult a vet before using it because of the age. My dog was a 3 year old shih tzu, and it did work. |

Cosequin for Cats helps ease the discomfort of joint problems in cats and preserve existing cartilage. Also helps support bladder health in senior cats. Cosequin is the #1 Veterinarian Recommended dietary supplement for maintaining joint health in cats. It is common for a cat's joints to stiffen and become less flexible as they age and this reduces their mobility and as a result greatly impacts their quality of life. Your cat may be less inclined to go to their favorite spots to lay in the sun if they have to jump and not be as playful. While this may also be a sign of aging it could also be a result of detriorating joint health.
- Plays important role in maintaining optimal joint function in cats
- Manufactured following standards similar to pharmaceutical industry
- Contains 125 milligrams FCHG49 glucosamine and 100 milligrams TRH122 chondroitin sulfate per capsule
- Also recommended to support bladder health

User questions & answers
Question: | What are the ingredients & strengh |
Answer: | Yes, pyrantel is used for roundworm control. |
Question: | I see no msm in this. I thought cats needed this as well. Has anyone tried something with msm? Does it make a difference |
Answer: | If you want to prevent or kill coccidia, you want toltrazuril. You can get a name brand called Baycox labeled for pigs (Canada) or order generic toltrazuril 5% labeled for horses, rabbits etc. from various farm or equine supply stores. The 5% also treats puppies & kittens. It’s pricey, but not near as expensive as Marquis (another product similar to toltrazuril). Marquis is a paste that comes in a big tube, must be diluted/compounded and Is usually around $300!! If you don’t want a big bottle of toltrazuril, you can usually find it in smaller quantities from various sellers on EBAY. The dosage amounts can be easily researched or Googled online. |
Question: | Can this safely be used with begining stage kidney issues |
Answer: | Expires 9/21 and I purchased the product in May/June 2010 I believe |
Question: | Can you break the capsules into the cats food easily |
Answer: | It does not. I use mine for our dogs and dosing instructions were easily found online using strength of med. 50mg/ml. |
