Answer:	The Heated K&H Outdoor Kitty House would be the more sturdy of the two and provide sufficient heat. It has an excellent thick heating pad you put inside which is very cushionyyy. I took off the plastic on both sides since the movement of the plastic seemed to scare the feral cats away. Heating pad is warm for them and works with the heat of their own bodies. Keep this out of the rain and wind. Garage would be perfect if for a feral cat, otherwise place it where it wont get wet and battered by wind and where dogs cant get to the cats. I bought this for our feral cat we have had since a kitten when her mother put her up on our wall and left her there. We took her in and kept her in our garage and she has always remained very warm, and that was 2 years ago. She roams the neighborhood but always comes back at night for food and her house.

Answer:	I have two of these houses plus a home made one in the front of my house under my eaves...Unfortunately, I don't have an outdoor plug nearby so I bought a heavy duty outdoor extension plug with a three plug coupler and plugged the three in, ran the extension cord under the eaves of my house up off the ground and into my garage...plug connections are covered to avoid getting wet and this is the third year I've used them without incident

Answer:	This is very late, I realize since the question was asked 4 years + ago, but I just have to add - if you have senior cats and it gets cold where you live? Please bring them inside. *Before anyone yells at me, I do know that some kitties refuse to come in a house. I have cared for feral cats and cats that are fully socialized with humans & I know they each have a unique personality complete with "quirks" - in which case this house could be awesome! We always just have a box with a towel and sometimes a heating pad with a timer for the ones who won't come in. But if at all possible,bring those kitties in :)

Answer:	I have 3 k&h heated cat houses of which I’ve run for almost 6 mos a year, for 3 yrs now. I am an electrician. As long as it is plugged in it is using power. The power these use are so minimal, they’re not much different than running 4-5 LED lights. No extra money at all. I am retired, now. Answer:	You can reach inside from both sides of the cat house to both feed and clean. . Also, the floor boards are not screwed down, so you can put your hand underneath the house and lift up the floor panel (there are 2 panels) and reach right in. If you keep the house outside you will probably want to seal the very top of the house where the frame comes together.

Answer:	I don’t think so-it has two levels but I think only a cat would use the upper level. They could both go in but it would be very snug. If they’re 10 pounds maybe but not 15. And they would need to be sleeping partners.

Answer:	This is exactly what we bought this house for. We live in the high desert area of New Mexico and get coyotes in our area frequently. This house is well built and I don't think a coyote could get in it. They have sniffed at the house but then walk away.
Question:	Does this house accommodate 4 adult cats
Answer:	Probably snugly, but i am putting an outdoor K&H heater in the top floor, since this visitor kitty likes to be up high and safe from predators or neighbor bully cats, and leaving the bottom floor insulated but without the heater gives him a place to go safely and dry if he gets too warm up top. I honestly think two could cram in the bottom layer, but because the top has the access opening hole, i think one cat would fit upstairs more comfortably. If I were redesigning this house, i would definitely make it a bit larger in floor space, more rectangular than square. Can't be too big though, or it won't hold heat with those two big entrance doors. Its basically two floors a bit smaller than 20"x20", and hard to fit most bedding without overlap. I'm putting a square self-warming sherpa pad on the bottom floor. Cannot use self-warming mat on top floor since it has metallicized fabric, and I'm putting the heater up there that has it's own special sherpa cover.

Answer:	I would suggest only using this in a protected area (away from heavy rain/wind) as it is rather light in weight. We have it on a covered porch and our feral cats (2-3 at a time) curl up inside it.

Answer:	Yes they are clear plastic. I haven't used mine as they are not in the wind. I like the two opening because it makes my cats feel safer as having an escape route if necessary.

Answer:	Maybe a typical thin blue tarp to keep the wind out. There's not a lot of support, it folds up on itself in one piece. You might be able to put this in some sort of container if you want to try that. I didn't have to worry about the wind because we have it in the garage.

Why doesn't my K&H bed warm up?

K&H beds do not feel warm to the touch most of the time, this is normal. In order for the bed to feel warm there must be something lying in the bed.

How do I test my bed to see if it working?

You can test any K&H heated bed by placing a pillow on top of the sleeping surface. After about 20 minutes feel under the pillow, it will be nice and warm. This is what your pet feels when he/she lies on a K&H bed.

Do's and Don'ts

Do leave the bed plugged in all the time unless you are leaving your home for an extended vacation.

Don't place other objects or blankets on top of the bed.

Answer:	I’ve also dried in the drier and it turned out fine.

Answer:	It is meant to be used where you dont have electricity. Together it would be too hot and possibly start a fire. It is heated by body heat.
Question:	Have had this for about a week but My cats aren't using it. They do sleep inside at night but purchased for a cat that has arthritis. Any thougths
Answer:	I can only guess that because of the arthritis, maybe the cat can’t get comfortable and needs to keep changing position? Or maybe the mat makes him/her too warm all over and doesn’t just warm the areas affected by the arthritis. It’s hard to say. The cat I bought the mat for sadly passed away about a month ago. The three other “feral” cats we’re caring for were using the mat for a few weeks, but then moved to the regular pet bed covered with blankets I have for them in the same cat “fort”. Plenty of body heat with three of them, and the mat should help reflect back that body heat, but there’s just no accounting for our kitties’ behavior sometimes.
Question:	do you think this would keep an outside kitty warm in a cat shelter in winter? Snow, rainy weather
Answer:	Yes, that is what I used it for! However, it works best in an insulated homemade shelter, either a plastic bin that has been insulated or if you use a styrofoam cooler, and line either with straw. I used this pad as additional warmth for the extreme cold winter we had. Both cats in two of my shelters survived well with this added way to keep warm. It's a good quality self-heating pad and it is washable. I would certainly recommend buying it. There are how-to videos on YouTube on how to make your own outdoor cat shelters. Good luck!

Question:	Does the wall/roof insulate the heat well
Answer:	The shelter has a flexible inner insulating layer, between 1/4 and 1/2 inch thick, covered with fabric. The only openings are the door, which comes with a removable plastic cover the cat can push in/out for access, and a small hole in the rear for the warming pad electrical cord to exit. The rear half of the pad has a water-proof warmer; the front half doesn't. The pad produces mild warmth when powered, but nothing like a home heating pad. So I feel comfortable that it protects the outdoor cat that adopted us against wind, blowing rain, and mild winter temperatures. We live in Texas, and our shelter is on a bench on a covered porch. So our winters are mild and the location is somewhat sheltered. If I lived in the northern US with long, frigid winters, or the shelter were more exposed to the elements, I'd definitely want something with more protection and a warmer heat source.
Question:	How long is the cord
Answer:	The cord on the heating pad extends approximately 69 inches from the heating pad. Another couple of inches is probably lost in getting it out of the cat shelter which would give it an effective length of about five and a half feet (5' 6")
Question:	Does the heating pad work 24/7 or only when the weight is detected
Answer:	According to the manufactures website, it is 24/7. It takes about an hour to 2 to heat up to 102 deg and stays there. There is a heated side and a non-heated side.
Question:	Is this house water proof
Answer:	I would not consider this shelter as being waterproof. I believe the fabric itself may shed water but the zipper would probably admit water. I'm quite sure the bottom would admit standing water along the zippered seams. We used this shelter in a semi-protected space (small porch) and enclosed all but the opening with a black plastic bag. Not esthetic but effective. We have found homes for three of the lovely kittens born in it 55 days ago and Mom is scheduled to be spayed on July 1st.

Answer:	I think it could hold two average sized cats if they liked to snuggle. My cat weighs about 9+ Pounds and has plenty of room. The interior dimensions are 17 by 22.

Question:	How does it keep possums or other animals away
Answer:	I have two feral cats that sleep in my Kitty Tube located on my open porch. Last night, it warmed up into the upper 30's, so the cats we out and about. When I took the dog out, I noticed a possum eating out of the cat dish. When he saw me, he ran into the tube. It was cute too see a possum head sticking out of the tube but I worried it would scare the cats away. By morning, when I checked, the possum was gone and both cats we in the tube. I think opossums and raccoons are more interested in the cat food than they are in the Kitty Tube. From now on, I am going to move the food dish to another location. Anyway, when the temps drop more, the raccoons & opossums will be hibernating.
Question:	Is there an opening for an electric heater cord
Answer:	Yes, but it is designed specifically to fit the heating pad/cord manufactured by 'The Kitty Tube' manufacturers. Their heating pad used to be listed through Amazon but is no longer available. You can probably find it on 'The Kitty Tube' website. If not using the opening for the electric cord, The Kitty Tube comes with a plastic plug to close the opening. I found The Kitty Tube to be insulated well enough that I did not need to use an electric heat pad. However, I did find that although The Kitty Tube stayed dry through several heavy rainstorms, I did find recently that some wetness did get into the bottom of it and the bottom of the pillow did get a little bit wet. I do like this pet enclosure and am trying to figure out why it happened. It did not come in through the plugged opening but rather where the bottom seam meets the bottom insulation and I noticed that it happened when it was raining but the temperatures were more colder than 50s and possibly 40s. I don't think that it is condensation and it only happens when it is raining/colder temps, and only where the bottom insulation meets the bottom enclosure. I do like this pet enclosure more than any of the other ones I reviewed and/or purchased so I am trying to resolve it. It may possibly be a sealer that is affected by fluctuating temp changes - not sure - but it is worth resolving because it is a good quality design and product.

The heated, soft floor pad fits all the way to the corners in the house which would give the kittens extra space. Of course, if your cat has a large litter it might be a little crowded once they start growing. From what I can remember about cats with kittens, they prefer small, secluded spaces for safety. Layout Your Structure:

Layout your main panel structure, black side up. Lay the black roof panel top down so that the zipper teeth face up. Take note of the zippers that attach the roof panels to the main panel structure.

Use the hook & loop strips on the door flaps to make any alignment adjustments you need to.

Attach Roof Panels:

Using the zippers, attach your roof panels to the oblong sides of the main panel structure. Do this before raising the front and back panels.

Raise Remaining Side Panels:

Lift the oblong walls and then the front and back wall panels. Use the hook & loop strips to secure the front and back walls to the oblong walls, and to secure the roof to the front and back panels.

Insert Heated Bed Pad:
