Question:	How do you zip this thing
Answer:	Mine had a faint odor and my husband who is an electrical engineer says this is common with plastic in items. The outer edge dries first and when the inside starts to dry it emits a gas. It should fade away soon if you have any smell. It is safe and I am thrilled with my purcase. The inside pillow has no odor at all. I purchased the tan heated pod.

Question:	Does this bedinclude the pillow, or is it just the shell: k&h thermo-kitty heated cat bed
Answer:	Yes the pillow is part of the bed. It contains the heater but still is nice and soft and has Velcro holding it in the bed. After 6 years it is still in great shape. My cats love this bed!
Question:	Trying to figure out if its working properly. I feel the heat from the bottom of the bed but no warmth from the top. Should I return and reorder
Answer:	The source of the heat is a small heating pad in the bottom of the bed. I presume that you may have difficulty feeling the heat on the top of the bed because the heat needs to travel through the stuffing, so the full effect is only felt when pushing down on the bedding for a while. You mentioned that you can feel the warmth from the bottom of the bed where the heating pad is, so at least it is working, but to rule out having a heating pad that isn't hot enough, you can try putting something in the bed that weighs more than 5 pounds to simulate a cat and after an hour or so you can test to see if you can feel any heat. Even if it is only a little heat, it is a lot for a cat that lives outside.
Question:	Can I leave the cat bed on all the time, even when I'm not around? Or will it potentially cause a fire

Answer:	I washed the bed and hood on gentle cycle in my washing machine. Then, I allowed it to air dry. This worked fine, with no damage to the foam.

Answer:	There is a zipper on the actual pillow of this product. You would need to pull the pillow out from the inside of the bed to see it and then you will easily be able to remove the Pet Bed Warmer on the inside.

Answer:	I do not know the size, volts anyway, but it is a flat pad that sits under the cushion padding. I have two bald cats that use them and they love them. Always keeps them snug , we have two of them.

Our house is up in the mountains and the house is not insulated. It is around 60 degrees Fahrenheit inside the house, and very cold outside. Labs, collies and similar dogs already wear a coat to help keep them warm. I don’t understand the need for a indoor heating pad for a breed like these. Most larger dogs can tolerate winters. There’s nothing cruel about a dog sleeping outside on most winter nights (wolves, coyotes and foxes in dirt dens manage just fine). However, as a rule of thumb, I bring my dog into the garage on single digit nights just for piece of mind.

Answer:	Yes, that is strange, right? I think it's a dog comb. I'd not use it on a cat without putting on leather gloves first, but I might use it on the dog.

Question:	Does this bed flex or bend in anyway. I need to slip it through a doorway I created in my homemade cat house
Answer:	Hi Debbie. The answer is yes. Mine has been plugged in for 3 years now and I did not see any appreciable increase in my electric bill the first few months I used it. (I have an extra on stand-by when this one finally gives out) Also, when the pet is not on the mat the temperature decreases to very low only to be increased to 102 or so degrees with the pressure of the pet when it returns. This is the best and my outside kitties have spent many freezing nights in their warm box with the mat on which to sleep. Initially these were feral cats which allowed me to care for them from a safe distance. Loved the opportunity to domesticate them. And I also had a mat for my inside kitty as well who loved her bed just as much as the outside critters. I think this was the best purchase I've made for a pet. Answer:	I've had these for 2 years. They heat constantly, but it's pretty subtle unless you compress the insulation. I think they heat to roughly 104°F, so it's mild compared to a medical heating pad. My old housecat has definitely figured out that it's warm, though.

Answer:	I have three cats, and each loves their own K&H bed. My tip is to line the bed with a terrycloth bath towel (laundered without fabric softener for best results). Fasten the towel to the top of the bed with a couple of safety pins. The cats love warm towels, and the towels collect dirt, dander and fur. Remove and launder the towels as needed. This is a great way to collect the crud and keep the cat clean and happy, and extends the life of the bed, which won't need laundering.

Question:	The heating pad came with a metal piece that sort of looks like a comb, but it's not a comb. What is it for? I think it was in the package by mistake
Answer:	My cat is large, should weigh 12 lbs. but is 15 and on a diet. He's a long and tall orange male anyway. I just got the larger size for him because he was spilling over the sides of the round one. He loves it, and if you had two cats who sleep together, it would also work well for that.
Question:	Is the cover machine washable
Answer:	The heated pad is about 14" x 18". The heat pad can be easily removed from the fleece cover. Also, I felt the encircling roll of fleece was a bit too confining for my large Maine Coon cat. I found the seam on the roll and as able to reach in and remove the stuffing from about half the roll. Now he has a place to rest his head and is still able to spread out.
Question:	Where is this made
Answer:	Our beds and pads are not pressure activated. The K&H Thermo-Fashion Splash will emit heat anytime it is plugged in so your pet can sense that heat and be drawn to the bed or pad for warmth and comfort. Answer:	The Thermo-Kitty Mat is for indoor use only. meaning it should be used in temperatures of at least 60 degrees. Question:	can we use an extension cord with this
Answer:	Using extension cords is basically safe. Those official warnings against using extension cords are legal boilerplate that theoretically protects manufacturers from lawsuits if something goes wrong, from both user misuse and manufacturing defects. When not overloaded with high wattage equipment, modern electrical circuits are designed to operate safely using extension cords (think of old fashioned lightbulbs rated at 100 watts as lower than normal usage since one circuit can handle several such lightbulbs running 24/7). Aside from overload, the true safety issues arise from pets and children chewing (as well as humans tripping & falling), causing partial exposure and/or breakage of prongs and wiring that might come into contact with flamable material, or electrocute a living being. If the metal remains covered and intact, it's basically safe. But if ~any~ cord or plug has become permanently bent or kinked, it's wise to replace it (including the entire appliance if its the built-in cord that's damaged). Even if the extension cord gets warm during use, it is safe (however, HOT cords indicate a problem either with too many appliances or from a defective cord or appliance, and steps should be taken to determine which it is so the issue can be addressed). Even if a circuit gets overloaded, circuit breakers are designed to "break" the flow of electricity before it does any damage. However, if your building's wiring is very old (i.e. still uses fuses instead of circuit breakers), or has been installed improperly (an issue with the DIY crowd), then it ~could~ be dangerous (not necessarily ~is~). If your breaker frequently trips (or your fuses blow), your circuit is overloaded and is potentially at risk. Question:	Does this turn on and off with the weight of the cat or is it on all the time
Answer:	The brilliant feature of this kitty mat is that it is pressure sensitive. Keep the mat plugged in all the time. Any weight will activate the heat and it will turn off when nothing is on it.
Question:	My rescued cat lives in our garage (refused to stay in the house) and sleeps on the sofa. Will this be safe to leave on the sofa where she sleeps to keep warm this winter
Answer:	Yes, it should be. I have one of those type of rescues also who refuses to become an indoor cat. I have 2 heated mats for him. One is a softshell mat that wraps the inside of his hooded bed and a second that is a hard thermo mat which is on top of a carpeted mat infront of one of the garage window sills. I also have a propane gas heater that keeps the garage a steady comfortable temperature. To answer your question though it will be safe. If your garage is not heated, I would recommend covering the mat with at least a cardboard box to keep her warmth around her whold body. Otherwise she will get cold, especially if she is wet, try to dry her with a towel. And a large towel over the cardboard box might help retain the heat in the box.
