This is a nice feature to be able to easily remove the cab, as some days are not cold or windy, and it is easier to maneuver around objects (mailbox, garage, etc) as well as visibility is better. However, on a cold, windy day it is the best!

Answer:	This is product is Magnesium Chloride which is more gentle than other melting products on most surfaces. However, it is not ideal to put any melting material on your shingles or gutters. If you have an ice dam, you can put the product in a nylon stocking and lay that on the roof to create a drainage channel.
