When should change the reeds?
When the treble is not good, the reeds are attached to the mouthpiece, which means the reeds are already very soft, and it must be changed. Also, when you feel that the tone has dropped a lot.
How to Install a Alto Sax Reed?
1. Place the thin end of the reed in your mouth to soak or put it into a container of water to soak;
2. Lay the flat side of the reed on the flat side of the mouthpiece;
3. Carefully place the ligature over the reed;
4. Make sure the tip of mouthpiece is almost perfectly even with the tip of reed;
5. Adjust the reed by the sides with your thumb - don't touch the tip;
6. Tighten the screws firmly to make sure the ligature can not slide off, but not too tight.
Warm Tips
1. The new reed is relatively dry and hard, and the vibration is not sufficient. It should be soaked in cold water for about 2 minutes before use (the front end of the bubble reed). You can prepare a few reeds for change, which can effectively extend the life of the saxo reeds
2.Take care when you install or place it, if the tip is broken or curved, the reed can't be used again.
3. After each use, it's suggested to be gently washed with the water and absorbed the rest water with paper, put it in the ventilation and store it the case.
🔔Note
Spots on the reeds don't affect the use at all. During the growth of the reeds, some parts are not covered by the leaves. When the dew gathered on these parts, and after exposure to the sun, the spots are formed.;Some professionals specially choose this kind of reeds, since that means the reeds are grown in sufficient sunlight.

Question: | I am currently playing on a 3.5 Vandoren reed and when I play it sound way too brittle, should I get a 5 reed |
Answer: | Hello,you'd rather go up in strength in a more progressive way, going from 3.5 to 5 can be too big of a jump, try for instance a strength 4 and then if you are still not satisfied, you can go for a 4.5 or 5Regards |

User questions & answers
Question: | hello please if I order two or three boxes must I pay the 2.99 ship for each one or only one time? thank you and happy new year |
Answer: | Hi There,If you order all the boxes at once, on one order, you would only have to pay shipping one time, for one order.Happy New Year's,TomThe Music Store |
Question: | what size should I buy?? any advice im 18, for band |
Answer: | Ask your Band Teacher. They usually want every alto sax player using the same mouthpiece and same reed brand and strength . That being said, the 2.5 is an excellent reed. I played on a 2.0 strength for 1st year. |
Question: | For an adult beginner, which strength is better or should be used for alto sax |
Answer: | Good question! For an adult beginner, I would recommend a Vandoren 2 or 2.5. Even for an adult jaw, a Vandoren strength 3 is probably a bit too stiff. |
Question: | Are the reeds stiff? I've heard they are but these were Vandoren from about 10-15 years ago |
Answer: | Any new reed is going to be stiff as is expected. The reeds do "loosen" as they are used to some extent. I recommend them to intermediate players. For a beginner then the strength should probably be a 2. Both strengths work well and help deliver a quality tone. |
